I couldn't work with Mac Os after updating 10.5.5 to 10.5.6

Hello,

first of all, i am new to Mac os, the only experience I have with Mac Os is installing ideneb v1.3 Mac Os 10.5.5(dual booting with xp sp3) on my PC(Intel 945 GCNL M.B, 1.5 GB RAM, Core2duo 2.0 GHz processor & 160 GB Seagate SATA hard disk) nearly a month back. I haven't had any problems in using Mac 10.5.5 on my pc except using sleep feature(of course I didn't use sleep patch while installing). But three days back I downloaded 10.5.6 update(by using software update option) from apple website and choosed 'apply & restart' option. The process of applying updates stopped at 55% and a screen appeared asking to "restart the system by holding power button". When I restarted the system & tried to boot to Mac Os, the process of booting stopped at white-gray screen with apple logo, there was no hard disk activity. And I completely switch-offed the system for some time & power-on the system again, this time Mac Os loaded successfully but mouse was not working hence I could not access any thing(i don't know any keyboard shortcuts to open files or anything. So, I had to shut down the system by holding power button. I tried 4 to 5 times to use Mac Os in the last three days but same thing happens. Still I can not use Mac Os.

This experience raised one question in my mind that "can we download and apply major updates for Mac Os like 10.5.6?".

Is there any solution to my problem, how can I use Mac Os normally again?.

Please help me by giving correct and valuable solutions to my problem.

Thankyou all,

st_7.

iDeneb isn't compatible with that kind of a software update. You need an install with a Boot132 type setup, where the important tweaked kexts are in a hidden directory or partition. iATKOS 5i does this. Now that your install is hosed, you'll have a chance to move up to a better distro.

iDeneb works fine, but you had to remove AppleCPUPowerManagement.kext DURING install (i.e.: you must delete it from the Extensions directory as soon as it appears or the update will fail).

If this is the case, either use Mac Drive on windows or something to uninstall. If not, burn a copy of Boot 132 CD with the CPUPowermanagementDisabler kext and use that to boot into our Mac side, assuming that's the only thing that's messing it up.

Hello,

First of all, I wish you a happy & prosperous new year to the insanelymac community.

I think there are few people over here to give a solution to my problem. Thanks for unacloacker, macapprentice & genmatrix for posting your views. Now I want to make my question more precise:

1) Can I boot from ideneb v1.3 10.5.5 installation DVD and remove AppleCPUpowermanagement.kext?(as macapprentice said that it may be the reason for my present problem). If so please give me the process of doing it.

2) If there is no other way of getting my ideneb v1.3 10.5.5 O.S back to work normally, then what do you suggest as best version and closely resembled version of Original Mac, which would work perfectly on my PC. Please suggest me what is the best kernel to use, what are basic kexts to use & not to use, so that I don't face same problem again after updating my system.

My system specs:

Intel 945GCNL Mother board,

Intel Core2Duo 2.0 GHz processor,

1.5 GB DDR2 RAM,

160 GB Seagate SATA Hard disk.

I had this same Problem upgrading to 10.5.6. I started with an 10.5.2 Kalyway, and upgraded up to 10.5.4, and things were OK. But with I upgraded to 10.5.5, and later to 10.5.6, I had this same problem.

What it did to recover was to boot up my Kalyway installation disk, and run Terminal (it was in an Tools or Apps menu), and my hard drive was already mounted. I just cd to /System/Library/Extensions, and deleted the offending AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. I then ran Disk Utility to umount my hard drive, and then my machine rebooted just fine.

Then when reran the upgrade, but using the netkas instructions:

u can use this little script for it, run as root, before starting upgrade

while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done

That is, run the above script as root, and then run the update.

This allowed 10.5.5 and 10.5.6 to install just fine.

hey melon man, thanks for your suggestion but it did not work for me, I have deleted AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext by booting off from ideneb v1.3 Leopard 10.5.5 installation DVD. But same thing no change in the situation.

As I said in my previous post, please suggest what is the best version and closely resembled version of Original Mac, which would work perfectly on my PC. Please suggest me what is the best kernel to use, what are basic kexts to use & not to use, so that I don't face same problem again after updating my system.

Your PC sounds pretty generic. I had a Emachines that wasn't too different from what you described, and Kalyway worked well with it.

I think your problem is that the 10.5.6 Update, after it installed the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement, froze the kernel, and the update only half finished, leaving your OS in a corrupted state.

Perhaps you did this already, but I would re-install the base OS, then run that netkas script I mentioned earlier during your upgrade to 10.5.6. This should prevent the OS from freezing, and the installation can run to completion.

But if you already did that, I don't know what is going with your system.
