After update to 10.5.6 without EFI string the 8600GT works without QI/QE and 1920x1200 at first startup.

After EFI string installation string, monitor is not initialized at login screen.

Also -x is not working.

Seems that wrong resolution or something else not working...

I tried also nvinstaller v.52 -> not working! (previously ok).

What has changed from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6?

Thanks!

The nvidia drivers are updated in 10.5.6 if you find no other solution you can delete them and use the kexts from 10.5.5

Same problem after 10.5.6 update. NVinject, Natit, and NVkush didn't work for me and stuck at 1024x768. NVDarwin worked perfectly with the 10.5.6 kexts. Search the forum or Google for NVDarwin.

Works, with wrong solution!

1440x900 instead of 1920x1200!

What to do now?

Thx!

there was some issues with the DVI port on the 8600GT, try the VGA port and see if everything works correctly, if so, do some searching for 8600GT DVI support. I have a 8600GT in my HP DC7700sff but use the VGA port for my 37" Sony with no issues. it detects the resolution as 1920x1080.

I improvised with NVKush and pick the KEXT packgage on his website and installed the 10.5.5 KEXT over 10.5.6 and I had to go back with the manually downloaded DMG to get the 10.5.6KEXT back (cause I did not back them up doh), AS WEL AS after re-installing the seatbelt.kext from 10.5.5 or the kernel would crash. After doing so and rm -r everything with NV* in path in /System/Library/Extension and re-installing NV Darwin WITH ALL OPTIONS (not just 256 mbps) ==== I now have QE going on my BFG 256MB 8600GTS. Alleluia - took me 3 hours.

longtom: did you solve your problem? I'm having same problems!

Have a 8600GT and it did work great with 10.5.6 until recently when I changed cable.

And this is what is strange:

With a 1m dvi-dvi cable I get 1920x1200.

With a 5m dvi-hdmi cable I get 1920x1200 with flickering with about 1min intervals.

With a 7m dvi-hdmi cable I DONT get anything after gray apple boot logo!!

Have to VPN to machine and change reso. to 1280x1024.

anyone have a clue whats going on?

I would love a solution, because for now I boot into Vista and everythings fine (with the 7m cable)

First thougt that it was the 3dcard that was broke.

Thanks!

Interesting...

My issue was solved as i repaired my Yuraku LCD monitor, there was a problem with the mainboard.

(Also a new ATI was not working at startup (BIOS), LCD haven't detected a card).

As longer the cable the more interferences you'll have.

Is it a quality cable? Which LCD monitor?
