french squared
I know everything is compatible with kaylway, just wondering if it looked like a good system. This is only my second build I do have kalyway install on my Gateway M-6824 laptop. Can someone recommended a good retail install guide for my system. JaE-V
I'd say get an 8500GT, that dvi ports gonna give you a hard time with the 8400. Vga works fine however. Just depends on your monitor i guess. And get the iATKOS 5i disk, it has all that dsdt stuff so you can update using the software updater. Should be fine. french squared
the 8400 was only $30. I am hoping to upgrade to a 9600 when I can afford it. Im not a gamer so I really just need a card compatible with OSX Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141745-new-build/#findComment-1005348 Share on other sites

french squared
Damn, that would have probably been a better card. I always seem to miss something. I didnt even notice it in newegg. I though they quit selling them. I will try the 8400, but if it gives me issues I will return it for the 7300. Thanks It'll work perfectly fine, i couldnt get any injectors to work but when i manually generated my own strings & it worked fine. Vga out of course, dvi out will give you a black screen. Spent a few hours building a system for a friend today with this card lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/141745-new-build/#findComment-1005479 Share on other sites
MaaseyRacer
Dont mess around with the packaged installes. Get grub-dfe boot 132 ISO, use it to boot your mac. Grab the latest version of chameleon. Install the retail disk. Install chameleon, pop in all the P45 kexts into the extras folder. Run your graphics card EFI string. Upgrade to 10.5.5. Then install PC EFI v9 install it in root, grab the DSDT installer, run it and install it in the root. Install 10.5.6. Enjoy your mac. I will have to spend sometime googling all that. Im certain I will be back with question, but I know enough to google before asking. I havent heard of grub-dfe, but I am very familiar with grub for linux. no idea what PC EFI v9 or DSDT is. MaaseyRacer
I know nothing of linux but if you search this forum for grub-dfe you will find it. It is just a boot loader that works for the P45 boards and several others. I am not having any luck finding a guide for PC EFI v9 I have installed Kalway but in that version the work is done for you. I simple had to modify a few ktext files.
