FakeSMC.kext and/or its plugins can be placed in /S/L/E or /L/E with later versions of macOS/OS X.

The result is the same.

And the result is the same whether kexts are in the root of /S/L/E or /L/E or in a PlugIns directory of another kext.

What are you talking about? And for whom?

Have a nice day and thanks for your time if you have an idea ! (will save me 1000$ for don't buying an actual mix table)

Hi, Clmnt.

I think the right steps in your case would be:

1. Restart your computer into Recovery Mode (restart and wait for the computer screen to go completely black. Then press and hold 'Command' and 'R' and don't let up until you see the Apple logo).

2. Open Terminal and type csrutil disable.

3. Restart your computer.

4. Issue the following command into the Terminal:

$ csrutil status
If you’ll see this message:

System Integrity Protection status: disabled
it's all right.

5. Download and run Kext Utility.

6. Download AlesisFirewire.kext

7. Drag and drop AlesisFirewire.kext into Kext Utility and let it do its thing.

Oh man, it was so simple and it work, so many thanks :)

You can't imagine how it's cool for me now, I can record 12 tracks simultaneously with just a firewire cable with my mixtable ! the normal way is to buy an expansive audio soundcard $$$ and 12 cables in outputs, and I do it with just a 200€ mixtable found on ebay and a firewire cable

Thank you again  :D

Is it possible to install kexts to a different volume (in the case where there are multiple volumes with OS X in single machine) and also repair permission on that volume?

Currently, I think the workflow is Install kexts manually then boot into Clover and rebuild kext cache?

Thankyou

This is a long thread...  so please do forgive me if this has been answered previously...  Quick Q: is the awesome Kext Utility ok to use on High Sierra?  There is only mention of up to 10.12 on the site and elsewhere...

Thanks!

Thank you cvad for your utility. Is there any reason you don't correct this right on the first page here? Seems like a 5 seconds edit  ?

It's not possible at the moment.

OK. Is that something you consider in an update? From what I understand, ever since Sierra (or maybe already before), /S/LE is reserved for Apple kexts, and 3rd party kexts are supposed to be installed to /L/E?

Just tried the alesis kext thing under Catalina, KextUtility 2.6.6 says that AlesisFirewire.kext cannot be read ...

anyway, with csrutil disabled my Alesis firewire 16 does work like before (did it before with Mojave)
with csrutil enabled it doesn't appear in Logic or in audio apps

also, the alesisfirewire(..).app doesn't work, and AlesisFirewire Driver [v3.5.6].dmg cannot be installed with Catalina

Cheers
