Hi guys. just got my dell mini 12. I am trying to install OSX on it as the hardware is very similar to the dell mini9. so i downloaded the MSI slipstream version to try to install on it as dell mini 9 has proven successful this way. however when i install half way it comes to the screen

"rtl_r1000_nic_ext: ethernet adress ......"

then it just doesn move. i've waited and waited and it just doesnt move on. anyone tried other ways? thx

What more do you need? Apple has never made a Mac with that POS integrated video, ever. Nobody has a driver for it. Without a driver, at best you will have to force the resolution with an EFI string, and you won't have core image or quartz extreme, which means half of the OSX apps out there will not work at all. Front Row, Time Machine, CoverFlow, any 3d game, those are just a few that come to mind instantly. The Mini12 is a pile of {censored}, it's priced higher than a real laptop, and if you already bought one, you're an idiot for not doing research before buying it. It doesn't even have a good Atom chip in it, the Mini9 even has a better one of those! If you write drivers for a living, and have done it for OS X before, and you can get the white sheet on the GMA500 from Intel, sure, maybe you can write video drivers and get around the reason why the Mini12 will never be a viable OSX laptop. But somehow, I doubt that.

that POS intergrated video my fren is based on intel's US15W chipset which uses a superior atom Z processor then mini9's 945 chipset (LOL) and atom N processor which runs hot. gma 500 quote from intel "Full hardware acceleration of H.264, MPEG2, VC1, and WMV9 is supported, eliminating the need for software CODEC and off-loading the processor. Hardware video decode acceleration relieves the decode burden from the processor and reduces power consumption of the system." i can have 720p playback smoothly with only 200mb ram used and 70% cpu usage wat does your gma 950 do?. nth close to this.

so its not that apple doesn't have {censored} intergrated graphics. acutally wait. gm950 is so old it appeared in all of their old plastic book line ups. b4 switching to intel 3100 and now nvidia.

apple is about to release 2 models of their netbooks and i can bet with you they'll use either 9300m or at least a intergrated graphics that can do hardware acceleration. in short it'll be anything than that age old gma950. and for sure if its an atom itd be a Z rather then your N.

the only reason why you have kext for gma950 is because 1) its so old its avalible from their plastbook lineups. just wait and see. mini9 my fren. is OLD.

You ignore the fact that the Mini9 LCD is LED backlit. The Mini12 is using the power hungry, short lived, and outdated flourescent backlighting. The battery life sucks too. It's got a real hard drive, so it's noisy, where the Mini9 is dead silent. And the hard drive makes it far more fragile than the Mini9's solid state drive. The GMA950 may have been around awhile, but it's STILL being installed in new Mac's.. The Mac Mini still to this day uses GMA950 video.

Fact is, The Mini9 runs OS X perfectly, while the Mini12 never will. NEVER. You bought a worthless machine, as far as OSX86 goes.

Yeah, it's got Intel's "Poulsbo" chipset. It's meant to be a low power chipset to save energy like the CPU does. Too bad they combined it with a CCFL backlight instead of LED like the Mini9 has, and they combined it with a normal power hungry HDD, instead of a solid state drive like the Mini9 has.. Or maybe I should just say, thank god they didn't ruin the Mini9 with that chipset.

At this point, it looks like the next generation of netbooks will have nVidia's awesome chipset, and hopefully the dual core Atom. :) Pulling up system monitor and seeing 4 "cores" is awesome (hyperthreading FTW).

I got the Mini 12 up and running 10.6 on an external drive but because it was running ubuntu i can not the internal drive to format for osx. but everything works thanks to the ASUS walkthrough and Ryuu123 will continue to experiment and try to install to the internal drive.

This is how I did Dell Mini 12 with Netbook BootMaker/NetbookInstaller 0.8.3RC4. I was able to get resolution up to only 1024x768 due to, I believe, VBIOS limitation. Can you get it to work at 1280x800?
