Ive been considering the Acer Aspire One because its just so cheap from radioshack with decent enough specs. But the osx86 compatibility is still shakey. What have people had the most luck with?

lenovo s10 is a pretty good choice, very similar to the msi wind, except you won't have to replace the wireless card, and the only thing that you can't get to work right now is the LAN port. I've got mine dual booting with vista right now...

i don't know much about this, but, for my part, i'm gonna buy the lenovo s10 just to install os x on it, while the others i have little or no interest in.

After all, Lenovo bought their business from IBM, and aside from Apple, IBM(Lenovo) makes the best hardware.

and besides, the dell mini 9 has no F1 -F12 keys. some might not have a problem with that, but I know i would.

Lenovo is a chinese company. Yeah, they bought the Thinkpad arm of IBM, but they are no longer IBM. That's all I have to say about that.

The Mini9's wifi is supported out of the box, it's a BroadCom chipset card. No problem. The Mini9 DOES have F keys, F1-F12, they are accessed via the Fn key like the volume control and screen brightness are. They did away with the physical row of F keys so that the keyboard could be closer to full size. I think it was a good thing. I say this as I'm laying in bed touch typing this message in the dark. ;)

how is the battery life on either of those?

I get 3+ hours on my Mini9. I think the Aspire One has a larger battery option.

how is the battery life on either of those?

s10 has a 3-cell battery, so not that good, 2-3 hours (haven't done any time testing on mine personally), but you will be able to buy a 6-cell for it eventually. One other thing I forgot to mention, is that the RAM slot and harddrive is easily accessible for upgrades by a panel on the bottom (unlike some of the others).

I looked at the mini9 for a moment, but no harddrive space was a no-go from the start for me... Based on my experience getting it to dual boot and run osx, having a spare partition for testing and/or running a backup osx system while playing with all the kext's to get it to operate properly was a life saver as well.

I have had my dell mini 9 for about a week now and i love it!!

its really sweet. only thing i dont like about it is that there is now two finger scrolling.

other then that works fine even with only 512mb of memory.

but my 2gb stick should be in the mail today or tomorrow.

its hard to go back to my macbook... that thing is a beast compared to the mini

Bluetooth on the mini9 works like a champ. As for hard drive space. The laptop I upgraded from still had a 30gb hard drive in it. So with the 32gb SSD, I'm already as good as that unit for storage space, and I have a 64gb SSD on order, which I feel will be all the space I'm going to need on a mobile device. There's always the SD slot if I need more, toss a 32gb card in there (well, as soon as SDHC support is added to that driver, right now only SD support has been written).. :(

Did I mention it's easy to add a touchscreen to the Mini9? And it works in OSX.. :) I love modding my toys.

No, there's really no way for them to make a bigger battery for it due to the way they designed the unit. Unless there's unused space inside the current battery, which I doubt.

3 hours is perfect for my needs, but I can see where 8 would be handy if you're out away from any other power sources.

You can buy additional batteries, but that gets kinda clunky. And hibernate (safe sleep) does not work, so it'd require a full shutdown/restart to swap batteries.

I would propose the Asus EEE 1000H. 10 inch non glare display, 6cell Battery. Maco OS is running well including speedstep, sleep, Bluethooth, WebCam, Wireless (with Ralink driver but for 20 Euro I bought a Broadcom BCM94321 mini PCI card which is recognized as Airport). Also sound works (excluded is the microfon). You can regulate the Brightness and so on. The Harddisk, RAM and the mini PCI Slot are easy to acces (only 2 srews).

There is a own forum with a wiki with detailled installation instructions including a zip package including all neccessary kext and apps to get it running well. You can find it: http://ipis-osx.wikidot.com/installing_ideneb_1_3_1000h

Only ethernet does not work actually but there is the possibilty to by a USB to Ethernet adapter. To get the microphone running you can simply buy a USB to sound adapter for 10 Euro if neccessary
