Well, I looked around, and didn't see a place to introduce myself, so I guess I'll do that here too.

Not sure where to start, uhm, I've been trying to get OS X on my PC for quite some time now, even though I also have an iMac G4 and G5.

I've tried it with a few different variations, and I never can seem to get it to install.

Anyway, this time I figured it's finally time to ask for help.

I tried installing it on a 650i Ultra, and most recently an Intel DX38BT (aka BoneTrail).

I've always tried using IDE devices, as opposed to SATA, and have the HDD set to Master, and the ODD set to Slave. I still get the "Still waiting for root device" message.

On to my question; has anyone ever tried/gotten OS X to install properly on a BoneTrail?

Forgive my ignorance, but what chipset does the Bonetrail use? ICH10R? What about the IDE ports? Marvell or Jmicron? What image (distro for a lack of a better term) of OSX are you using? I have found that iDeneb 1.3 works best. Once you get that down, you can explore boot 132 installs. That is what I am using now (With a EFI boot partition). If you have more than a couple of HDs to use, you can experiment more and not worry about it.

I know the NB chipset is x38, haha, other than that, I have no idea, this is my first Intel chipset.

Here's the link to it on newegg,

EDIT, sorry forgot to say, using (trying) Kalyway 10.5.1

I am glad to see this discussion here!

I'm using the same motherboard. I have the manual right in front of me.

Intel X38 is indeed the chipset that is on it.

Pasted directly from the manual:

The Intel X38 Express Chipset consists of the following devices:
• Intel X38 Express Chipset Memory Controller Hub (MCH) with Direct Media
Interface (DMI) interconnect
• Intel 82801IR I/O Controller Hub (ICH9R) with DMI interconnect
The MCH provides interfaces to the processor, memory, PCI Express bus, and the DMI
interconnect. ICH9R is a centralized controller for the board’s I/O paths.

If I'm reading this right, than ICH9R is indeed the chipset controling the SATA IO ports.

Hope this helps. I'm looking for a fix to the STILL WAITING FOR ROOT DEVICE problem as well.

I'm attempting the nForce patch right now.... hope it works.

OH, btw, the IDE controller is Marvell. I see the text splash each time the comp boots.

Thanks,

NorrinRadd
