DigitalMulch
Hey folks, I am about to order the following and before doing so I would like if someone with a bit more experience could give this a once over and let me know if they see anything that may cause issues when installing OSX. Newegg Hackintosh Wishlist Thanks. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135366-new-hack-build/ Share on other sites
shavex
I know for a fact that your burner will not work. Everything else looks good to me but I don't know about the motherboard. DigitalMulch
Any suggestions for a comparable burner you know will work? Anybody had any luck with the ASUS Striker II Extreme LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra SLI ATX Intel Motherboard ? LogicalUser
the 8800GT is out of stock, and has been discontinued, but the 9800GT is pretty much the same card, exact same core & performance. will run you $100-140 depending on vendor, style of heatsink you want, and if you want overclocked, or other features like HDMI output including audio, using an adaptor & SPDIF wire to your motherboard. Zaap
Glanced. Motherboard: spectacularly suck choice for Hackintosh, overkill anyway. Ditto the graphic card. PSU- overkill with a dose of uselessness lopped on for good measure. Ditto that for the RAM. Even the monitor- 21" at 1080p driven by an overkill card that probably won't even work for Hackintosh... Err.... (Anyone encouraging you to buy that list of parts for a Hackintosh is either: A. clueless about Hacks, or B. having a laugh at your expense. Funny I guess, but really, not 2k worth of funny.) Maybe time to do some reading and research... unless what you're really after is a non-Mac gaming PC. DigitalMulch
Overkill, yes. Wanted, another yes. Instead of just knocking my choices why not suggest something comparable that will work? I have been reading and researching, hence why I am asking these questions. Now, any suggestions? jklmpqo
no, actually, not wanted. nvidia chipsets suck for osx, get a gigabyte p45/x48 quad core is probably overkill for most needs, games (why would you be playing these in osx) are optimised for 2 cores at best (as of now). ddr3 is a waste of money for now, get 4gigs of corsair low lattency ddr2 800 for 35 bucks on newegg. psu is a waste of money and electricity (and thus a further waste of money) you could (and should) use much lower wattage. gfx is not only overkill but also not particually good working right now, a 9800 would be a much better choice for your pc Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/135366-new-hack-build/#findComment-963738 Share on other sites
Zaap
Instead of just knocking my choices why not suggest something comparable that will work? I have been reading and researching, hence why I am asking these questions. Now, any suggestions? If you want it, buy it. Suggestions: read the forum. Hell, maybe even check the HCL Wiki. See anyone else using the same setup you are? Guides for it? If so, do what they did to get it working. If not, keep reading and use what DOES work. There are a million build lists around here- no one needs to come up with a brand new one FOR you. DigitalMulch
JKLMPQO, thanks for the info. Zaap, I have read the boards, I have built plenty of PCs and looking to build my first hack. I put together that list based on the knowledge I have. Apparently my choices aren't the best which is why I was asking. I am not asking for someone to come up with a brand new list for just me. I was asking people to take a look at my list and offer advice as to what I could to to increase compatibility with OS X.
