hackintoshrocks
Hi @ll, i am looking for a new motherboard to build up my own iHac. my requirements are: Supports recent intel Pentium D9xx CPU´s Support for DDR 400 RAM (i still have 2 GB DDR 400 Modules here, whats why i dont want to switch to DDR2) Everything should work "out of the Box" including Graphics ( resolution switch without .plist editing) By that way, i would be glad if someone could suggest me a useable PCI-e VGA Card with native support for OS-X in case that my Mainboard of choice dont have the intel 900 graphics onboard. any suggestions? So please stop me. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13420-building-my-own-ihac-need-hardware-suggestions/#findComment-85422 Share on other sites
geoman
Any progress on locating a suitable board yet? I am also planning on building a Hac and want to use an integrated Intel mobo. bofors
Any progress on locating a suitable board yet? I am also planning on building a Hac and want to use an integrated Intel mobo. The issue here is that he wants to use his DDR RAM with a 775 socket, otherwise there are plenty of DDR2 boards to pick from. I tried this "power search" at NewEgg, which looks pretty cool, but found nothing: http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/RangeSea...Subcategory=280 DDR Standard[DDR 400 (PC 3200)], CPU Socket Type[socket T (LGA 775)], Onboard Video Chipset[intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950], > I think the problem here is that the Intel 945 chipset is DDR2 only: http://www.intel.com/products/chipsets/945g/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13420-building-my-own-ihac-need-hardware-suggestions/#findComment-85476 Share on other sites
geoman
I have found some decent priced mb's in Australia D915 GLVGL - $120 D915 GAGL - $150 The 945 GNTLKR is $200 but has GB Ethernnet and Firewire, unlike the other 2 above. What re your thought about the 915 boards? Would they work without much hassle? bofors
915 boards with Intel's GMA 900 work perfectly and some of them are dirt cheap. Does anyone out there have a Pentium D CPU geared on a i915 Motherboard and that really works? bofors
But they wont support the Pentium D 9 series CPU or am i wrong? That's right the 915 chipset does work with Pentium D's, it has no multicore support. You criteria of DDR-400 and Pentium D appear to be mutually exclusive. The Pentium D processor supports Intel's EM64T (licenced from AMD) technology, the XD Bit and like most current Pentium 4s, uses the LGA775 form factor on an 800 MHz bus. The only motherboards guaranteed to work with the Pentium D (and Extreme Edition) are those based on the 945, 955 and 975 series of chipsets, as well as the nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition. The Pentium D 820 won't work with the nForce 4 SLI Intel Edition due to some power design issues, though they were rectified for the X16 version of the chipset. Motherboards based on the 915 and 925 series of chipsets will not work at all, as the chipsets do not have support for more than one processor core (a result of Intel trying to prevent motherboard manufacturers making Xeon motherboards with the chipsets, as happened with the 875P). The 865 and 875 series chipsets do have multiprocessor support, so motherboards based on these chipsets may be Pentium D compatible, so long as the manufacturer provides an appropriate BIOS update. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentium_D Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13420-building-my-own-ihac-need-hardware-suggestions/#findComment-85797 Share on other sites
hackintoshrocks
okay then lets change the requirement. now lets search for a i945 Chipset based Motherboard that works with just all onboard devices out of the box ;-) and still, if there is no VGA onboard, wich graphics Card should i buy then? declan
I will always recommend my spec, it was built just for os x and runs perfect. See sig. marliwahoo
declan's box is very good. I think bofors box is a little better. Check out the link in his signature. The 945gntlkr ($125) is the bomb. Everthing works including built in firewire. 950 graphics and the chance to use a $25 add2 card for a FULLY working second display (spanning + qe and ci supported) It has efi built in for future possible use. That is what I would buy if I was buying right now. The 945GNTLKR is a really good board, which is what I picked up with a Pentium D 930, a few gigs of RAM, a 75 gig Raptor drive and a 320 gig SATA II drive. Everything doesn't work great though: with the built-in audio, you need to plug the speakers in to the line-in port. Not that big a deal if your not booting back and forth between windows and OSX all the time. The on-board graphics work great, getting 1280x1024 at 75 Hertz refresh (most only seem to get 60 Hertz refresh). You will need a couple kext from 10.4.3. The RAID0 doesn't work either, but from what I understand, I don't think anyone has been able to get RAID0 working yet. Check out the thread bofors started for a lot of great tips.
