Building the Ultimate Hackintosh

I'm in the market to build the uber hackintosh. A machine Apple fears to make but all you fellas help write drivers for. My problem is I do not know what works and what doesnt.

I want a performance machine

An Intel 45nm Core 2 or Xeon

Compatible mainboard

8GB of RAM

2x1TB HDD

fastest possible GPU

.... what else?

A machine that would eat up Mac Pros at a fraction of the cost.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

You might want to look at the Core i7 thread if you are looking for an "ultimate" system. They have had a fair amount of success apparently getting them to work, with no more problems or patches required than many hackintoshes. The Core i7s do have considerably more power than the older chips, though overclocking is more complicated.

I was on a slight budget and still managed to build a system that performs better than most.

It consists of; (parts are more than 18 months old now)

Gigabyte X38-DS5 mobo

Intel Core 2 Quad 6700 overclocked @ 3.0Ghz

8 Gb Kingston HyperX DDR2 1066

3x Seagate 7200 500GB Drives Running software RAID (osx)

2x WD 1TB 7200 Drives Running software RAID (media)

Leadtek 8800GT 1GB with 2 x Asus 22" DVI monitors

Bought a Bluetooth dongle for $5 and bought an apple wireless KB

Xbench score is 220.5 (i'm happy with that)thumbsup_anim.gif
