jespera
First off i have a toshiba laptop with soundmax 1981b and id# 24c58086. After looking through the forums and trying EVERYTHING, nothing worked, no sound icon even though all the kext files loaded without trouble. Anyways i found my problem in the bios. I had to change device settings from "setup by os" to "all devices" and viola sound loaded and sounds great!!! Hope this helps, any questions let me know. mludd
Hmm, that sounds like something I should try, but I don't know how to access the BIOS settings on my laptop without installing Windows + that Toshiba utility for changing BIOS settings.. Is there any way to access the BIOS settings without this on a Toshiba laptop? EDIT: Never mind, it was just good ol' Escape.. I was trying Ctrl-alt-del, Del and a bunch of others when I found it.. silly me.. /mludd Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13080-attn-ac97-soundmax-sound-working/#findComment-83391 Share on other sites

Wombatter
Dont know if this will help anyone, but I have the same card, this is what I did to fix mine. edit Info.plist in AppleAC97CodecAD198x.kext change.... <key>PNPVendorID</key> <string>ADS75 ADS74 ADS73 ADS72</string> to <key>PNPVendorID</key> <string>ADS73 ADS72 ADS71 ADS70</string> then reboot, you should hear a click after the VGA dection which is the speakers turning on. If this did not help, then I do not know what your problems are. This is on OSX 10.4.5 BTW. Wom. Mike Yann
I'm afraid it dosen't work for me. But, oddly, every time I can hear the click what you described after the VGA dection when the speakers is turning on. I even can adjust the volume, but still no sound. Wombatter
Mike, try pluggin in some headphones/speakers in your MIC/LINE IN socket, sometime the driver can get corrupted in memory and only output's via the MIC/LINE IN rather than SPEAKERS/LINE OUT etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/13080-attn-ac97-soundmax-sound-working/#findComment-84382 Share on other sites
