case11
Hi everyone, i will buy: - Asus P5W DH Deluxe OR Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 - Intel Core2 Duo (don't know which model) OR Intel Core2 Quad Q6600 - 4 GB of RAM 1. What do you think about the mainboard, can I be safe for official updates with this thing? 2. Would a dual-core give me nice performance for working with huge video-projects or should it be (for the future) a quad? Thanks to everyone who will answer one of this two questions. :-) case Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/128299-asus-p5w-or-ga-p35-ds3-core2-duo-or-quad/ Share on other sites
iDerf2006
No need to look at the future - today's high end video applications already take advantage of quad-core machines. For your line of work, a quad-core will out perform a dual-core of similar frequency by huge numbers. swilso
Go with the P35-DS3, it is compatible with the efi-x chip if you decide to go down that alley later on, the asus isn't. As for core2duo or a q6600 - that could go on forever i think. I have asked the same question and am still not sure, the e8500 is a fast cpu, can overclock crazy. I am still not sure if to go with a e8500 or a q6600. Keep in mind intel has price cuts in October for the Q6600, i don't think there are any price cuts for the e8500.
