I-tunes Cpu Usage

After quite a while i finally got everything working, osx is patched and working. Except for the fact that I-Tunes, and actually any PPC app uses about 50% of the cpu. So firefox and Itunes are both really slow. Is this a common problem, and if so is it fixable?

-Thanks in advance

On a side note, is any one else having the problem of OS X not shutting down or restarting?

My amd64 freaks when trying to shut down... also if the ethernet is plugged in at boot it will lock at the login screen. I installed it on a dell 2300 at work, and replaced the video card, and it boots & shutsdown perfectly.... Maybe its an AMD thing?

I have a CPU w.SSE3, and iTunes uses up to 3% or so when playing an MP3...

No problems restarting or anything. (915G chipset w/2.8 P4 w/sse3)

Funny i hav ethe same cpu but sse2 and get 20% so a sse3 cpu would give an enourmous speedup i guess. And not only for Itunes.

I have a SSE2, so I gess maybe there is some other problem? It also has the tendancy to crash. I also noticed it doesnt really like my I-Pod, when its plugged in it seems to freeze more often. Maybe I installed the Maxxuss patch wrong?

Definitely, I've done the same test. SSE3 makes an enormous difference.

I can't actually do a test as of yesterday since I got rid of the SSE2 system. Maybe some other non-SSE3 2.8 p4 user can try.

i could set my cpu to 2.8ghz but i the test would be the same as we have other components, the test is only fair if one replaces the sse2 with the sse3 and see whats the diffenrence.

btw my score was results 35.02, cpu 15.62

True on that, wow. I just know that iTunes ran better anyway. If someone is making a new system they should get an SSE3 CPU, but I'd not sell a 3GHz system just to get SSE3. :) The only real benefit is fewer system patches I think, which seem to cause some instability (mine hasn't crashed yet).

but maybe not a sse3, else it would be strange

Yes,I am useing Celeron D 320(2.4G),but it's overing 2.88G.

The syetem is useing CoreGraphics,ATS,Libsystem.B.dylib copyed from Apple.OS.X.x86.Developer.Kit.Install.DVD-pheNIX.

Because I installed MacX86 from Deadmoo-img,I need SSE3 Enabled.

Now,it's no ATSServer crash and oah750d crash again.

These files's MD5 are :

CoreGraphics 9f87ca9f1d420f110b4b7f8300d9a752 (Why it's same as CoreGraphics.v0.3?)

ATS 80869c0e810809e8cae84bd673951ad8

Libsystem.B.dylib 43027bedb3eae884fccb75d4d2f16017

The iTunes for windows cpu usage never upto 2% in my windowsxp system.

Well, perhaps the cache on my real P4 helps with Rosetta?

Also, I am using deadmoo, but the only 'hack' I did to it was to replace CoreGraphics with the original one off of Marklar. And, deleted the AppleTPMACPI kext.

Double checked and, yes, it only does like 3% CPU for me with an MP3 playing. I've never had a crash.

do you have SSe2?

cyrana - what audio controller do you have and what does it show up as under OS X ?

I've had really big issues with Rosetta and iTunes. If I have hyperthreading on, the system is fast and responsive (comparable but no faster than my 1.5GHz PowerBook). I fire up iTunes and it loads after a short while but it won't play anything without the sound chopping up. iTunes shows around 20-50% CPU use.

I disabled hyperthreading and the system runs like a dog. Before removing TPMACPI the CPU was always 0.0% idle. Now, it may get to 10% idle. iTunes can play an MP3 if there's no other task running (including 'top' or the activity monitor) and it's skip free - but everything becomes unresponsive until the MP3 has finished (even iTunes updates its progress bar twice in four minutes and I can't click on anything). I see the beachball a lot when I turn HT off.

Using installer DVD +oah750d patch +TPMACPI removed. Hardware is:

* P4 531 Prescott

* Gigabyte 8i915G Duo board (i915G chipset, ICH6)

* WD 80GB P-ATA drive

* C-media 9880 codec (Intel HD Azalia Audio compliant)

I can only see a single line-out for audio inputs/outputs and the volume control does not work (and is stuck on full) however I can mute.

Thoughts?
