Hello all, thanks in advance for any information and work done here.

I have installed OSX 10.4.4 on my peezee, when booting ti it I get an error com.apple.boot.plist was not found. or something like that

After a lot search I was able to boot into the HD by first booting into the osx dvd, pressing F8 and at boot prompt typing "rd=disk0s2"

I have 2 HD 1 with Wxp Home and 1 HD withe OSx 10.4.4 (both ide)

I choose what HD to boot from at the BIOS screen.. (by pressing F8 when my PC is booting and I get the "1 time boot selection"

I dont want the 2 os in the same HD

We have like 5 new iMac intels and 3 macbookpros

only 2 pcs 9specs below)

Any help or info will be great

If you send a email and I dont answer fast enough, please excuse me, Im currently in Japan and the jet lag is killing me

Sys specs

Intel Celeron D 3.20GHZ/ and the other has a Intel Core DUO 805 @ 2.66ghz (same specs as below)

asus mother board

1.5gb ram

1HD 80GB (WXP Home)

1HD 160GB (OS X)

sony dvd-/+ r/rw drive (that the OS X does see)

no video card (getting an agp today the video things we are doing can not be handled by the onboard vga)

OK here is my boot.plist info

<dict>

<key>Kernel</key>

<string>mach_kernel</string>

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string></string>

<key>Boot Graphics</key>

<string>Yes</string>

</dict>

</plist>

I did some tweaking and nothing happened

Now I dont get the missing boot.plist erro, but it wont boot

Im only booting from the DVD, pressing F8 and at boot prompt typing rd=disk0s2

Then it boots fine

Like I said.. XP and OSX are on 2 separate HDS

OK, here is the update.. the plist error is now gone..

Tried chain0 and I get a Chain booting error.. after reading a lot of how tos I was still stuck

Decided that since both OS are in separate HDDS I can just select which one to boot from at my BIOS screen (pressing F8 will give me the option to select what boot device I want)

WXP boots ok

Try OS X and all I get is a black screen with a flashing white "_" (line with no quotes or prompt)

Any help please... thank you

Yo Mazinkaiser,

Use your XP to activate your osx86 boot :

1. Reboot or turn on your PC, press F8 and select your WinXPHome HD

2. Let XP running, then select START, select RUN, type CMD and you go to the DOS BOX

3. In the DOS BOX type DISKPART, then type LIST DISK to see if you have 2 disks

(usually disk 0 and disk 1)

4. Go to your macosx Disk, by typing SELECT DISK 1, then type LIST PARTITION and

it shall reveal partition(s) you have in DISK 1 (it shouldbe PARTITION 1)

5. Next type select PARTITION 1 and then active this partition to make it bootable by

typing ACTIVE and wait a while and a message pops up :

THIS PARTITION NOW HAS MADE ACTIVE

6 Type EXIT and EXIT to leave diskpart and dos box and get back your WinxpHome

GUI.

7. Quit your XPHome normally, your pc reboots, press F8, select your macosx HD

and voila it boots into mac osx86,........... ENJOY YOUR MAC OSX86

That could be dangerous advice if your OS X partition is messed up or otherwise nonbootable for some reason. Make sure you have another boot disk before changing the active partition from Windows to an operating system you're already having trouble booting into.

I would run the Disk Utility found on OS X installation CD-ROMs on the hard drives first, specifically, make sure all the permissions are right, because I think a lot of those boot.plist errors are just that people accidentally take ownership of that file as they're trying to modify it, when it should be root who owns it.

I never got chain booting it work except under Windows Vista. The whole promised OS selection screen never even came up for me. But under Windows Vista, I was able to get it to use the chain0 file and it works fine.

Thank you all for the help.. gonna try this... but

I installed OSX on a single HDD and after installation got the plist error again

Fixed the plist (well I think I did) and now all I get is the black screen with the blinking prompt

Gonna try the steps here and let you know

Ironically on my brother's AMD 64 3200+ machine, I too am having an error with the com.apple.Boot.plist file both via native and VMware 5.5 Workstation. Except not with a pre-installed OS X, but rather with the 10.4.4/10.4.5 Myz Install DVD. The DVD is good, tested it out on my dad's P4 3.2 and installed in VMware flawlessly. Everything worked trouble free. Off topic but I tried the same DVD on my Acer Aspire 3613 laptop with a 1.5ghz Celeron M and currently running 10.4.1 [deadmoo's tiger-x86-flat.img DD'd to /dev/hda1 & hda2] and I can't install 10.4.5 from being booted up in 10.4.1 and/or when I boot off the dvd, it'll boot, load up all the kernel extensions and then just go into an infinite loop at the light blue screen being displayed via VESA. I've tried specifying verbose, safe mode, and such to no avail of a solution yet. If someone has a thread they could point me to for the laptop, awesome. Other wise only a response to the plist for the AMD machine is hoped for in this thread. Just stating the status of my DVD as proof that it's not a coaster or miss-burnt DVD-R.

Thanks in advanced for any suggestions, replies, comments, URL's, or thread ID#'s.

  • 1 year later...

I get this same error with uphuck's 1.3 and 1.4i r3 iso's.

they both install fine but when i reboot after finishing install it pops up the error of com.apple.boot.plist not found.

JaS .8 works fine for me tho

sys spec's in sig.

help please.

so i used JaS .8 to erase and partition my PATA, then rebooted and booted from the uphuck 1.4i r3 and installed and i dont get the boot.plist error, i now just get kernel panics so i guess i have to mess w/ what packages to install.

g/l all

I noticed from another post somewhere (i didnt save the link) but uphuck 1.4 r3 auto selects the boot type when partitioning the drive as GUID instead of the MS DOS one. choosing the MS DOS option worked for me.

Disk Utility

Partition

down at the bottom next to partition button there is advanced or options ( i cant remember exactly) and select MS DOS boot instead of GUID.

hope that works for others.
