Eyen
I don't know if it was mentioned before, but for those who can't get EDID on Mac you can use free softMCCS on Windows. MacDecBinHexCalculator may do good work for you too if you don't have access to the internet while generating string (actually string method didn't help me, but sleep hack did). ravagilli
Followed your instructions, and seems everything is ok. Had to enable Quartz CL in OSX86Tools, reboot, and seems no artifacts, resolution can be changed and everything seems to be recognized in profiler. Ive included all requested files (i think), so if you'd check them out then that would be great. I'm also happy to assist further because this has been annoying me for some time and it seems that we can have some sort of break through here. My machine is a Fujitsu-Siemens V5505, all graphics description are included in the screen shot. Thank you very much. I will report back when i have confirmed everything is working 100% all the time. Hacktrix2006
Everything looks correct! have you updated to 10.5.5 as i haven't yet and like to know if the X3100 is still working under the update. Thanks i could do with the help still looking into why the appleintelgmx3100FB.kext on the new drivers don't work right! Stokkes
Sorry if I sound noobish, but I'm incredibly confused. Is there a step by step tutorial or would someone mind holding my hand? I've just installed iATKOS 10.5.4, everything seems to work fine except my display is stuck at 1024x768, no QE and I'm not sure where the heck I should start to get this working. ravagilli
Yeah if you download the tools zip by hacktrix, inside the package is a .pdf with full instructions on the whole process. If you post your IO thingy then maybe someone will generate the hex code you need to insert into EFI Studio or OSX86Tools or whatever you use for EFI strings. The instructions are quiet complex and a little hard to understand but if you have a little knowledge then you shouldn't have a problem. Also remember to backup using timemachine and have some form of install disc ready incase you mess up the EFI settings and need to restore. On another note, i tried it on Chameleon EFI and it didn't work, so then i installed PC EFI v8 and has worked like a charm, even after shutting down and restarting multiple times! Also remember to delete natit.kext or laptopdisplay.kext if you have either of them installed. Just tried sleep on mine but it still just boots back up so that is my next task, but i'm one step closer to having a fully compatible laptop now with the graphics working. The method i was using before was to boot into -S and type /sbin/fsck -fy and check the file system, then repeat, then type reboot -q -n . this worked the majority of the time and when the grey screen goes, the blue one loads up and then cross your fingers if the desktop loads or not! Now it just boots no problems, all graphic options enabled. I'll keep checking back on this topic as i think this is quiet important and maybe should be stickied?? Good luck to anyone who tries this method as it is definately worth it! Also yes i'm using vanilla kernel, iATKOS 4i, updated to 10.5.5 and everything seems to be working perfectly! peninha
Hacktrix2006, I am following your tut to generate the EFI string for my GM950 (MSI Wind). gyasih
Using IoRegistryExplorer is not working. When I type in EDID in search bar I get nothing. Any ideas? I have X3100 (grahics update and 10.5.5) working but must still use sleepdisplay. Or, I get the screen to show up during boot (steveO kexts, but I lose QE and am not able to change resolution. Eyen
Some folks (including me) confirm here that 10.5.5 Combo Update has new X3100 drivers that can solve the problem without going into subtleties of EFI Strings or Sleep Hack. Hacktrix2006
Hi all sorry i have been away from the forum but i had some problems with my laptop!! LOL. For people whom are needing help post your IOREG dumps from the IORegistry program. I'll then make the strings for you to test. Eyen i have also updated to 10.5.5 via Software Update and i had to use my old drivers for mine to work again if you could be so kind to Zip yours up (drivers for X3100) i'll be grateful. People with GMA950 there is a working driver out for it. http://code.google.com/p/darwin950/ If it don't work change the ID's to see if that works. Once the GMAX3100 EFI's are working right i'll start on the GMA950's. Please feel free though to post your IOREG's too. and if some one With a Real Mac with the GMA950 and GMAX3100 can also do a dump for me it will make my work so much easier!! In my case it was clean Kalyway 10.5.1 install (X3100 didn't work) > Boot in safe mode with command "-x" so that display at least can work at 1024x768 > 10.5.5 Combo Update (X3100 worked) OR install new drivers with Kext Helper. You wouldn't need Natit or Sleep Corner anymore. Blamed by everybody AppleIntelIntegratedFramebuffer.kext must be installed too. Sorry for off-topic. CharredPC
Hacktrix2006: Tried following your PDF guide. Though my setup is a bit different, I can figure it out right up until you say "Now in EFI studio delete everything that is not in the IOReg's.." None of the data matches up between IOReg and EFI studio, either on my screen or in your sample pictures. How did you know what to keep or delete? Eyen: Already have all your drivers installed (came with 10.5.5, as you said). Still takes several tries to get into OSX; repeated scrambled screens and / or blue screens. Tried ScreenResX to limit resolutions/refresh rates; no change. I tried to follow the directions to this EFI thing, but it may as well be written in German for all the sense it makes. Any other ideas? Anyone? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/121912-intel-x3100-efi-strings/page/3/#findComment-915370 Share on other sites

CharredPC
HackTrix2006: Hoping you can help me sort this out... I believe I found the real issue here by using -v and watching the difference between what loads and what doesn't when the screen scrambles / crashes. Just before it boots to a corrupt screen, it says "GFX0: family specific matching fails display, display: family specific matching fails." When it boots in properly, it says "GFX0: match category IOFramebuffer exists." What seems strange to me is why sometimes GFX0 is okay, and sometimes it isn't. To clarify, for me GFX0 is where my "AppleDisplay" and EDID is located in IORegistryExplorer. I've attached my IOReg dump to help show you my setup, and perhaps why I found the guide so confusing. We've also been discussing your EFI mod here. Unfortunately, it didn't solve the problem for iamzenitraM, but he did find a strange solution. As he has a similar setup and posted his code, maybe you can troubleshoot with him as well. Let me know what else you need or what I might try. Thanks for your continued work on this! Hacktrix2006
Sorry i've not replied so quickly. This is due to me looking at the drivers in more depth!
