Thanks hacktrix but perhaps i'm doing something worng.

My actual situation is as follow:

ideneb 10.5.5 fresh install without any fix

laptop is lifebook e8410

video card is intel 965 express chipset :

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2A02&SUBSYS_13F610CF&REV_03\3&B1BFB68&0&10

audio alc262 working with taruga alc262_100 kext and alcinject

network card is intel 82566mc with

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_104D&SUBSYS_143110CF&REV_03\3&B1BFB68&0&C8

deleted all appleintelgma extensions and framebuffer so i'm stick with 1024x768 and no qe/ci

I've tried your efi string and display folder as per post 81 and 95 as you suggested but perhaps i'm doing it the wrong way.

Should i put back all the original extensions for gma x3100 and 950 and then place the string in the boot.plist ??

can you pls give me precise indication about it ?

attached my dump.txt

your zip with kext doesn't work. It give a permissions error unzipping....

thanks for any further help!!!

dump.txt

Would it be possible if you can save your dump via IOREG. If ou haven't got it download my pack from post 1 and then send it me. It makes life easier for me that way! Thanks once i have the new dump will then make you a EFI string!

Also put back the 10.5.5 kexts for AppleIntelGMAX3100. I'll start on the string tonight.

Sorry but i'm going to pop a bubble here with the X3100 and X3500. EFI strings will not work with the X3500. THe reason being is that the Core of the Graphics is different. Feel free to try but i can put a bet on it that it won't work.

Sorry for poping that bubble LOL!!!

thanks a lot hacktrix. Here u are with the ioreg file.

Also, should i put back also the appleintelgma950 files and appleintelintegratedframebuffer?

thanks a lot again !!

ioreg.zip

If you make a dump of your IOREG via ioregistery i'll gladly make you a EFI string! Macosse using EFI studio open my Plist file and look for a line with APL EDID and remove that line and the line below it! and give it a try!!!

I can't find a EDID in the IOREG but if you have windows go to the information seciton on the Intel Graphics panel and save a diag file in TXT format and i'll make you one.. Thanks!!!

thanks Hack !

Here the file , but i don't know if you will find the information you are looking for. (seems to be quite a basic info file...)

I will later try the edited plist and let you know!

DiagnosticReport.txt

Mac Attack12 If you give me your IOREG dump from IORegistery Explorer i'l have a look but it should do.

Macnosse thanks will have a look tonight as i'm currently doing some more working out on the Mac drivers. Will post as soon as i'm done which will be tomorrow morning/afternoon.

Right here we go everyone, I have made a Uni EFI string that should help everyone out.

That Is the EFI String for X3100 users. No more worries about EDID as that has been removed and it is still working on my system, just after a clean install of the Mac OSX 10.5.4 i've just done try it and let me know!

Just Use EFI studio to write it to your com.apple.boot.plist. Reboot your mac into safe mode then boot to normal otherwise it won't work.

Its a .hex file so using EFI studio open hex then write to com.apple.boot.plist.

EFIUNIX3100.hex.zip

ok. Hacktrix,

i will try right now. So, no need of Intelgma950 kexts, put back IntelGMAX3100 e Intelintegratedframebuffer kext, place the hex string in boot.plist via efistudio, repairpermissions, reboot in safe mode(-x) and then reboot again in normal mode . Right ?

Thank you a lot again.

[EDIT] No way hack ! It's the same story. a damn black screen again !!

I did exactly as written but nothing has changed. Efi studio gave me an "unable to write /tmp/com.apple.boot.plist..." error so i put the string by hand with the boot.plist editor. I think i did all right but it didnt work.

What a pain in the ...

You did it spot on, try deleting the intergratedframebuffer then repair the permissions. Its working on mine although i'm having to do Mac partition as th 10.5.5 b0rked up again looking for the disabler that kably made to stop the kernal panic happening everytime i try to install it.

If only i had more heads it would be easier to make it work!! LOL

thx hack and good luck for your .5 install.

Yes, I tried also deleting the integratedframebuffer but didn't get the result! I think i could try with a fresh install (the nth one, i must admit i have lost the count ....)

:( :( :(

I have tried with a fresh install and i'm always sticking with that damn black f* display!

Hacktrix I have a question for you : should i have to cpoy the Display folder i found attached in one of your post too ????

You don't have to but you can give it a try.

I know mine is working as i'm using it now. I have everything enabled on it and its all vanilla kexts.

But i'm going back to the drawing board!

EDIT: Spoke to soon, installed 10.5.5 update via Software update and heaven behold my laptop froze and now won't boot.

I'll be away for two weeks as of tomorrow but i'll sign in here and check up on how things are going and at the same time do a install of 10.5.5 from ideneb DVD!! Unless PCWiz accepts my PM

No luck.

10.5.4 is a step backward. ;):D

After many tries i'm unable to boot properly.

I will go back back to ideneb 10.5.5 fresh install and cross my finger !

Hack if you will have any further idea it will be great welcome !!

Are you still getting the syptoms?

I am still looking in the problems as i now have my OSX working again and have no problems anymore but everyone else is.

The only other thing i can think of is if you try booting with the -f if that works keep using it till i manage to get the X3100 working for everyone!

I'm on holiday at the moment so i'll say sorry for the delays in getting back to everyone!

Hacktrix2006: You say your system no longer has bootup problems- no scrambled screen, no freezing or black bars. Your work, as I understand it, is an attempt to recreate your success on other people's systems. So far, it doesn't look successful. So here's some troubleshooting questions for you:

1. Do you leave your laptop on most of the time?

Most times when I get the scrambled screen, it's after the laptop has been off for a significant length of time (8-12 hours). Once I've been using OS X for awhile, I can usually reboot fine with no glitches. It seems when people think the issue is fixed, it's sometimes because they leave their laptop on all the time, so never run into the problem anymore.

2. Do you fully shut down your laptop, or use sleep?

AFAIK, the scrambled screen issue is only a problem when booting up, not waking up from sleep. If you normally put your laptop to sleep instead of shutting it down when not in use, you may never see the problem, and therefore believe it fixed. Unfortunately, this is not an option for some of us, where Sleep doesn't function so can't be used as a fix.

3. Do you use an external monitor, or just the laptop LCD screen?

I've noticed that attaching an external monitor before booting sometimes solves the scrambled screen issues. I'm assuming this is because a usable display is immediately found where OSX looks first, as opposed to the secondary (and obviously finicky) GFX0 location. Again, if this is the case, the problem might seem resolved, when in fact it's just a workaround.

Thanks for your continued work on this. I'll continue to try any suggestions you may have. This X3100 scrambled bootup screen issue is really the last problem on my Acer Extensa 5620. Now that the Ethernet, speedstep, and even autosensing audio output work, I'm eager to iron out this final bug however I can!

Hi i use my laptop a lot between 12-18 hours then its shutdown after that time. I can't use sleep as it won't wakeup hence the shutdown. I don't use any external disply as if it do i get the normal mirror problems i.e its scrambles!

hope this helps answer you questions. The only thing i can think of it bown the the video bios's as i am on 1436 you can find this information on the intel control panel or in the bios.
