This is the motherboard I had, that just had the power die on it (it has 2 slots, one works and the fan spins but nothing happens, if I plug the other in, nothing comes on. They are the two slots above the center gray one, the little one seems to be the blown one).

Anyways, this board worked 100% out of the box. However, since I'm having to replace it, I'm thinking of getting one where I can do a vanilla install.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking to keep it around $100-$125.

Yea, I was looking for one that someone had tried and tested though....

Another stupid question.

On the manufacturer site of the one I have (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=PM8M-V) it says the CPU type it supports is :

Supports Intel® Pentium 4 / Prescott (Socket 478) processor.

• FSB@800/533MHz

• Supports Intel P4 Prescott CPU up to 3.4GHz above, and intel P4 Prescott Celeron CPU

On one of the ones I saw on Newegg, it says:

CPU Socket Type LGA 775

CPU Type Pentium D / Pentium 4 HT / Celeron D

Are those the same?

I'm assuming that your CPU is not a Core2Duo, correct? If so you will not not be able to do a vanilla install. Pentium D, P4 and Celeron D's don't support it. If you are willing to get a new CPU I would then get a Gigabyte P35 DS3. There are many different version of this mobo depending on what features you want or don't want. I have the P35-DS3L and have been very happy with the performance. The only issue I have, and this doesn't happen to everyone with this mobo, is that the onboard LAN doesn't work right. I just went to my local compshop and bought a used Realtek 8139 Lan card. OSX recognizes it, no drivers or kext files to install. I bought it because it was under $100. Good deal!!

That looks nice, but I'd rather just get a motherboard, my CPU is fine.

I'm stuck between seeing if it was my PSU or MOBO that got whacked, looks like its the MOBO, since I bought a 4pin molex converter to see if that would power it up, but it looks like instead that the board itself fried.
