GRardB
Well, let's see. I know it's my first post, and this topic may have been discussed before. I've just done way too many searches before I even signed up for this website, and I'm losing patience (I hope you guys understand). Please don't attack me. Anyway, Long story short : I downloaded Kalyway 10.5.2 and burned the image onto a DVD. I pop the DVD into my computer, restart, and I get a black screen with a blinking cursor instead of booting Windows Vista or the Kalyway Installer. I have no idea what to do. Specific details: I DO have my BIOS set to boot from CD I HAVE tried booting from the DVD manually using F8 I HAVE tried typing -v and pressing Enter, but the blinking cursor doesn't allow me to type anything I HAVE tried the DVD in my sister's computer and it worked on her's (much much older computer and is not as good) If I put the DVD in my main drive (the better one with a DVD-burner), the blinking cursor never goes away If I put the DVD in my second drive (the decent one with just a CD/DVD reader), the blinking cursor lasts about 15 seconds and then Windows boots Computer Details: Motherboard: ASUS M2N-Plus SLI Vista Edition Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ AM2 (2.8GHz) Memory: 2GB Corsair DDR2 PC5300 DDR667 (2x1024MB) Optical Drive One: 20X Dual Layer DVD±RW Drive w/ LightScribe Technology Optical Drive Two: 16X DVD-ROM Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB PCIe Sound Card: Onboard 8-channel High Definition Audio Network Card: Integrated Gigabit Network Card Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32-Bit) Also, my computer was manufacured by Maingear (Prelude), so there's no specific model name, etc. because it's customized. Please help me if you can. I really want to try out Mac on my computer and I'm having no luck. I'm going to try Leo4All soon if Kalyway won't work, because I read that it's a better solution for AMD, although I've also read that it's not as good. If any additional details are required for anybody to help me, I'll be glad to provide extra information. Thanks, Gerard Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/118821-having-an-insanelyhuge-problem-with-kalyway-dvd-boot/ Share on other sites

chevy2410
Is the computer you are trying to boot from, does it have an ide dvd drive or is SATA? You also have to remember that not all install dvds will work for everyone. You might have to try Leo4all. Is one better than the another..... well that's personal preference. I could never get iAtkos to work on my system at all. PsYcHoKiLLa
Assuming you have actually installed both Vista and OSX.... Stick your Vista DVD in and let it get to the installer, pick your language and then on the next page click on the "Repair your computer", then choose the option that says something like "There is a problem which is stopping my computer starting" (can't remember the exact wording). Follow the instructions and once it's fixed you should be able to then boot up the computer into Vista. Then follow the instructions I posted here. I would really recommend getting MacDrive (There is a free trial version), it will allow you to access the Mac disk drives (including the actual install disk) from within Windows Vista. coolied
This happened to me on an ASUS Intel board, what I did to get it working was I installed from an external USB DVD-ROM drive. If this is an option for you, it might just work. I've done research and people are talking about BIOS and AHCI and all of this crazy stuff. I see nothing about AHCI in my BIOS settings and I can't make the external CD Drive the Primary Master like some suggest (my BIOS won't let me). Any ideas? chevy2410
It could that you have the wrong drive set to be the first boot device. If you have SATA devices you don't need to worry about setting them as master. SATA devices don't work that way. One other thing is the install dvd might corrupted. It does happen. It could also be what program you used to burn the ISO image as well. One thing to try is put the disc in the dvd drive and check the contents of the disc. If you see 1 file that's like 3-4gb, you have not burned the disc right. Try re-burning. You need to burn that disc as an ISO image not just burn the file to disc. I'm not saying that's what you did, but just make sure you did it correct. I see nothing about AHCI in my BIOS settings and I can't make the external CD Drive the Primary Master like some suggest (my BIOS won't let me). You might want to disable the Onchip IDE Channel 0 and Channel 1 if you are not using any IDE devices. Make sure that you have SATA ports enabled. If you are not using a RAID setup disable NVRaid. Make sure you have the correct dvd drive setup to boot first and then you hard drive. Disable the other 2 if you don't need them. Just to make sure you are booting from dvd drive, you can tap like F12 or F8 or one of the F keys and that will allow you to choose what you want to boot first, but only for that time. Next you boot it will boot what you selected in the BIOS. For me it's F12. Yours maybe different. I'm pretty sure it's a SATA drive. Is it common for certain install DVDs to not work on certain computers, even if they're good computers? I hope Leo4All works if Kalyway doesn't :-\ Thanks for your reply. Well it's not really common and it doesn't matter if the computer is classified "as being good". Like I said before some install disc work and some don't depending on what components you have. It's happened to me.
