Greetings,

short time listener, first time caller. First time osx user.

recently hacked my dell. had a smooth install. everything is working but my audio at this time.

i thought i did a lot of research on osx86 before i decided to do the install. all i read was how fast osx86 was on intels.

my 10.5.1 is quick ... dont get me wrong ... however it doesnt seem any faster than running vista32. i click on the applications folder, system properties, etc. and there is a acouple second delay before the window/finder pops up...then the information inside that window will gradually come into sight.

is this normal?

i dual boot with windows server 2008 as an O/S on a seprate HD and i can tell you, that is MUCH faster(click on a program or folder and it pops up Immediately with no delay). with all the reading i've been doing, a system with the specs that mine has, osx should be flying.

so question ... am i just a spoiled brat that has too high of expectations or should osx86 be running faster?

i currently have 4gb of memory running at 667mhz. would a new computer build with 8gb of memory make a difference?

i'm a designer that runs 500mb photoshop files on a daily basis.

10.5.1 installed on 250gb hd partitioned right down the middle...second partition is for backup/file storage

windows server 2008 installed on 500gb hd partitioned at 80gb for O/S ... other partition is formatted fat so both O/S's can use it for file storage/backup.

xbench results without disk drives is 209.22

xbench results with disk drives is 149.33

could my hd be a problem?

Thanks for listening .. overall, for only being on osx for a day .. i like it and think i'll probably use it 90% of the time.

New windows pop right up on my Hack – no delays

Drilling though the folders, there is a slight delay if I go deeper inside than the folder inside the folder already visible – but only a fraction of a second

Then again, if I look into a HD that has "gone to sleep", the delay caused by the spinup is couple of seconds.

Running now 10.5.4 with 8 GB RAM, but was the same from the beginning (originally my install had 4 GB on 10.5.1)

Other specs in the sig.

I see you have a multicore processor. I know this is rare, but it has happened before. Open up System Profiler, and on the main Hardware list it should tell you about your processor, and how many cores it has. If it says the number you have, then you are good. But some people report only one core, when in fact they have two or four. Just worth a check :).

Hardware Overview:

Model Name: Mac

Model Identifier: Mac Pro

Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Number Of Processors: 1

Total Number Of Cores: 4

L2 Cache: 8 MB

Memory: 4 GB

Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz

Boot ROM Version: Hack.int.0sh

Serial Number: YM8659M6W0A
