I've been running my system for a few months now and it seems that VLC and Transmission might be causing kernel panics.

Recently, my computer has been crashing much more frequently than before, several times a day.

My specs are (Running Kalyway 10.5.2 with video drivers from DVD):

Gigabyte P35-DS3R

Intel Q6600 stock

Patriot 2x 2gb PC1066 DDR2 Ram

2x 74gb Raptors

1x Samsung Spinpoint 1tb hard drive

1x WD 250gb IDE HD

1x IDE DVD burner

Diamond Radeon HD 3870 512mb

Coolmax 500watt power supply

Is it possible that the power supply is causing the crashes?

This is the log from my console:

"Error getting a reference to IODeviceTree:/options "

seems to be your error,

run your devices in sata ahci mode,

jmicron is a very unstable driver on osx

and go for a sata dvd

I am currently running AHCI.

Would there be any reason for me to get a SATA DVD burner if I still have a IDE hard drive? I very rarely use the DVD burner.

  • 2 weeks later...

I'm also getting these kernel panics. Can anyone confirm if this is definitely a JMicron issue? Are you using the chameleon boot loader? Are you by any chance using a graphics tablet? It would be good to know what IO devices are being referred to - "Error getting a reference to IODeviceTree:/options" Other threads seem to be saying this might be a USB device issue.

I am having this problem too.... Anyone got a solution? What is the IODeviceTree:/options problem?

  • 3 months later...

I'm getting this error, nothing is running except an installer..

Im downloading world of warcraft right now, and that is the only time i have gotten this error... It has happened 16 times since trying to download it..

I have a SATA drive and an IDE... Should i try and install it to the ide drive and see if it persists?
