Hello,

I have recently upgraded my computer:

AMD AM2 X2 5200+

2GB DDR2 800 A-DATA RAM

550GB of HDD space (2 drives)

Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce 8600GT 512MB PCI-E

Anyway, i was wondering if it is possible to run Intel-based applications (not only just Power PC (PPC) applications) on non-Intel hardware, or, more specifically, AMD CPUs.

Is that possible?

Thanks,

Andrew

Let me re explain my question.

If you run Non-PPC applications on non-Intel hardware then the application will fail, and will close.

Is there a way to successfully execute non-PPC applications on non-intel hardware (i.e. AMD)?

@Headrush69; Have you ever tried running Intel-based software on a non-Intel Processor?

You get lots of errors, depending on the program, such as the error i posted about in the following topic, when trying to run Crossover Games on a non-Intel (AMD) OSX86 installation.

@zuz_242; Thank you.. So with these applications, i can patch an application so that it will run as a normal PPC application??

Yes, and never a problem. (Some Apple apps had a CPUID check, but that was easily removed. Never with third party apps.

No. That app removes the CPUID checks. It's still the x86 instruction set which runs fine on AMDs.

Ok, but it'll let me run the apps on my AMD, yes?

Also, how well would Mac OSX86 Leopard run for me?

My specs are as follows:

AMD AM2 X2 5200+ ~2.71Ghz Dual Core 64-bit

2GB DDR2 800 A-DATA RAM

550GB HDD space (between 2 Hard drives)

512MB Gigabyte Nvidia Geforce 8600GT PCI-E 16x

Asus M2N-MX Se Plus Motherboard.

I'll checkout the HCL.

Actually, an AMD is MUCH closer to an Intel CPU than a PowerPC. I don't know exactly where you heard that AMD chips can only run PPC apps, an AMD is a x86 instruction set processor (Intel compatible) so in the majority of cases it will work fine. I would think PPC (Rosetta) support would be more of a problem on a non-Vanilla (read AMD) install than Intel support. The installer itself is x86, so if that boots, you're good to go.

I have NeoOffice (Intel version) installed and operating om my AMD Sempron

Um... Who said that someone told me this? I've had experience with this, it didn't work for me!
