no1youknowz
Hi, Does anyone here have the Acer Aspire One? I am thinking of getting one but I want to know how OS X fares on there. For those who read can read this (i cant say what language it is). Here is the forum that a member has managed to get things working: http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=...mp;last=6965675 Desktop: http://attach1.mobile01.com/attach/200807/...6b47239e2e7.jpg Dock: http://attach1.mobile01.com/attach/200807/...22f084af67e.jpg If anyone can glean some more info or point me to a page where it details things like: Screen, Wifi, Shutdown/hiberate, sound, networking, etc.. what exactly works and doesnt. At the end of the day, its between this and the MSI Wind. I definately want to get a ultra-portable with OS X on there Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114897-acer-aspire-one/ Share on other sites

At the end of the day, its between this and the MSI Wind. I definately want to get a ultra-portable with OS X on there Thanks Hi, I'm in the same boat. New to OSx86 (actually zero experience so far), but thanks to your link, I'd love to summarise what those guys have discussed. In a nutshell, he's gotten OS X to install properly. From the posts it seems he used Kalyway 10.5.2 (you can see it in one of the screenshots). And apparently more than one person (maybe three guys) on that thread has successfully gotten it to work. His installation experience sounds very similar to that of those who've installed on the Wind (wind-osx.wikispaces.org for instance): built in wifi card wasn't working OOTB, one guy said no matter what he tried sound wouldn't work. But the last post by AlienTW said he got sound to work with ALC268Installer but it didn't sho the on-screen volume display. As expected after swapping the default Atheros 5006EG wifi-card with a compatible one it worked immediately. The original thread poster also shared xbench results http://www.mobile01.com/attachdl.php?id=70...3d325.zip)which gave very disappointing numbers because of the SSD drive. Also he noted that after the first installation on 8gb SSD he was left with only about 950mb, so you'll have to assess if that is still useable for you. Another interesting point to me was his remark that Safari on leopard on the One felt very much faster than firefox on the default linux installation. It seems the factory-installed linux OS didn't use the Intel 950 with hardware acceleration. So, my summary of what I read: Graphics (with acceleration), Powermanagement works Sound works (though nobody talked about headphones or mic) Bluetooth (he reported getting it to work with a dongle and then used his phone to surf, not sure if the Aspire One has built-in bluetooth) Wifi needs to be replaced with a compatible card But otherwise he seems very happy with the size, weight and appearance of his Aspire One. Most of all he was very verbose about getting to ride all over the place on his bike and the Aspire One (notice his photos of the netbook in his bag in the bicycle basket) The post was originally titled: Aspire one + bicycle + OS X That's what i gathered and summarised. There were lots of other unrelated or often-heard comments which I shall not bother to repeat here. Hope this helps. moarfish
So it is not a good hackbook because it just got a 8GB SSD? The solution only got 800x600 also makes it less attractive than the MSI WIND Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114897-acer-aspire-one/#findComment-826403 Share on other sites

Detosx
I spent a long time wading through reviews and threads. The Acer has very poor battery life, which is a great shame because it's very cute. In another review I read it said the screen was a little dark. The MSI Wind is also sold over here in Scotland as the Aspire for substantially less money and, interestingly, 25grams lighter (why?!), though the paint job isn't quite as cute (anyone been mugged, lately?). The ASUS EEE901 has staggeringly long battery life (six hours on Linux while using wifi!) but, at the moment, the price ins't right and it's not hugely attractive, aesthetically, if you ask me. At this point I really want a MacBook but am waiting for Apple to bring out the next generation; the screens on the current entry MacBooks are mediocre; you appreciate how mediocre if one is sat next to the MacBook air (or even a cheap regular Acer Aspire, pre Aspire One). Still, they are lovely pieces of kit and... it's an Apple! At the end of the day, its between this and the MSI Wind. I definately want to get a ultra-portable with OS X on there Thanks I recently bought one 2 days ago the Acer Aspire one with 120 Gig Hard Drive, 1gig DDR2 Ram, with windows XP home on it. I bought it for 349.00 and Fry's Electronics. First off let me say this thing is quick especially on the boot up less than 15 seconds with windows. Well i wanted to ge this to convert it to my new MiniHack Book and i have to say its performed better than i had expected. There are still a few things i need to work on such as the onboard wireless and video resolution. Its it has a intel GMA950 and after installing OSx with Kalyway 10.5.2 then upgraded to 10.5.3 using the combo update i still have minor things to work on. I am very pleased as it has alot of functionaly with this but again need to work out the little things and this is a little monster. i would recomend it for someone on a budget and doesnt like the big bulky laptops out there. Im actually going to get another one today as i like it that much. Hope this helps.. Khan_Man
I've been sussing one of these things out. I've found a great resource @: http://www.aspireoneuser.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=14 They claim most things working, exceptions being wifi (solution install a dell 1390 card) and sound (speakers work but sound out doesn't). A few other things. I'm amazed the built in camera works! torrentmasta
I have owned a AAO for like 6 months and it performs like garbage, I have a software problem that keeps happening over and over no matter how many times i format and start over. So far i have formatted it twice and its happened again. Now its going back to the manufacterer to see if there's a hardware problem. I have been on the aceraspireuser forums and apparently i'm not the only one with the problem. On a second note i would love to try OXS86 on this laptop and see if it performs better then M$. CBrindle
Hi I just bought myself one of these yesterday, first thing i did was installed iATKOS v4i onto it, and so far it runs perfectly. I am swapping the wireless card tonight for a Dell DW1390 so pretty much everything will work. For interest I followed this guide http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=122497, and if followed properly you cant go wrong, its pretty much fool proof. If you are going to get one of these I would recomend the 120GB version with 1GB of RAM. Also if you are not comfortable with taking things apart to replace bits think a bit harder because its not the easiest thing to get into. ankara
I have an acer aspire 150 - blue I got everything I wanted to work on it, but no sound.. wireless and full video resolution at 1024x768.. as far as the distro .. I downloaded ipcx86 universal edition pp5 all the patches are included. Here's what one week of hell gained me, and led me to one sweet leopard based netbook, that Im using right now!.. After booting choose the base system, and then choose the following .. choose fixes&patches and click both items in the ps/2 folder (if you don't).. after everything installs a screen will come up that says the damn keyboard is not connected, and your .. also choose seatbelt.kext 10.5.5 if you don't.. when everything is working.. try mounting a diskimage.. you'll get a kernel panic. after reading pages and pages of google forums on every x86 distro out there and having downloaded all of them.. this was the best, and a little bit of this and that all worked. choose voodoo for your kernel - for ss2 and amd systems voodoo is the kernel that is required! for video .. to solve the 800x600 problem I downloaded the answer - paulswinddriverutility pack, you go into the kext folder and install everything except acpibat, realtekr1000, and applesmbios, the key to it working, is after you install, you need to boot from the install dvd and repair permsions, when you do, voila!. 1024x768! half your nightmare is over.. for wireless.. the atheros wireless card that comes with the aspire is genuinely {censored}. I raped the wireless card out of a dell xps and it loved it.. I chose broadcom from the install dvd... for sound.. I used alc268 fix.. however, i ran installer 2 first, then 1, also I ran the azaliaaudio.pkg in pauls driver pack, then rebuilt permissions and at least now it acknowledges that I have sound hardware, but still doesn't play anything through the speakers. but at 2gb of ram a 250 gb hard drive - and webcam working - and wireless working beautifully, I have a macbook pro for under 400 dollars. if you guys need any of these with more coherent instructions you can email me at nilefirerain@gmail.com anyone have any idea at this point with sound? I know, Im soo close to the soundworking, I can FEEL it! DjTaz
for wireless.. the atheros wireless card that comes with the aspire is genuinely {censored}. I raped the wireless card out of a dell xps and it loved it.. I chose broadcom from the install dvd...for sound.. I think your wrong about the atheros card being {censored}. Its not very compatible with Mac OS (though im using the Mac side of my Acer one 150 now) but you can get it to work using Kismac, but on windows and on Linux it works great - I have a triboot system Mac , Windows and Linux (Backtrack) and the other 2 os's work perfectly with the card - so the card itself is fine , its just a matter of getting it working on Mac. Installing the hacked IO80211Family.kext driver and running KisMAC then stopping it and using the Airport to connect seems to work fine for me now, but was a b it of trial and error to get working. I have a basic image of the triboot system i have on one of the torrent sites but ill be upgrading it soon once i have everything working 100% (Only got linux autobooting last night) and i have to sort out the SD card side of this Mac. I think the Acer is an excellent laptop and ive ordered another one to play with Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/114897-acer-aspire-one/#findComment-1118283 Share on other sites
