18tjetta
Got 10.4.3 running on a p3 1g, with 512mb, and an intel 815 chipset. Runs fine so far. Audio and network work fine. Didn't think it would work, tried anyhow. Amazing! Will get a screenshot of about this mac later. But I think there are no drivers for that one... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11195-1043-on-a-p3-1gig/#findComment-70126 Share on other sites

Perhaps you can show a CPUZ as well. Will be interested in seeing. Perhaps you are running VMware? 18tjetta
Nope, straight install of osx, no vmware. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11195-1043-on-a-p3-1gig/#findComment-70136 Share on other sites
kuruu
I am not aware of a Pentium III with SSE2 (other than the Pentium M mobile variety). Perhaps you can show a CPUZ as well. Will be interested in seeing. Perhaps you are running VMware? I tend to agree. SSE2 was introduced as a featureset of the P4.... SSE2 and SSE3 The Pentium 4 added 144 more instructions (SSE2) that were also incorporated by AMD in its 64-bit CPUs. However, AMD added eight more registers than Intel for use in 64-bit mode. Intel subsequently included the extra eight registers for its EM64T 64-bit processors. Coinciding with Intel's Prescott CPUs, 13 more instructions were added (SSE3) in 2004 for 32-bit Pentiums, especially suited for MPEG encoding. See MMX, Prescott, SIMD and Pentium. Jason_25
Very interested here as well. Thought ya needed SSE2. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11195-1043-on-a-p3-1gig/#findComment-70181 Share on other sites
letni
Impossible. The Darwin kernel can be compiled (not very easily) to not need SSE3/SSE2, but the other components of actual OS X, which no source is available, HAVE to have SSE2 or higher.... All P3s only has SSE1. Here is the iterations of technology P2 - MMX P3 - MMX/SSE P4 Willamette/Northwood MMX/SSE/SSE2 P4 Prescott/Prescott2 - MMX/SSE/SSE2/SSE3 Pentium-M - Banias/Dothan - MMX/SSE/SSE2 (based on P3 architecture) Intel Core - MMX/SSE/SSE2/SSE3 (based on Pentium-M) And AMD... K6 - MMX K6-2 - MMX/3Dnow! K6-3 - MMX/3Dnow! Athlon Tbird - MMX/3Dnow! Pro Athlon XP Palimino/Tbred/Tbred B/Barton - MMX/3Dnow! Pro/SSE Athlon 64 - Clawhammer/Newcastle/Winchester - MMX/3Dnow! Pro/SSE/SSE2 Athlon 64 - Venice/San Diego/Manchester/Toledo - MMX/3Dnow! Pro/SSE/SSE2/SSE3 You may be able to recompile the base Darwin to support SSE1, but no way you will ever get OsX X86 to run on a P3. Sorry but logic dictates otherwise... letni
Actually, If you use PEARPC in winblows/linux, you can boot and run OS X 10.4.5 on a P3, by emulating a PPC CPU. Hell, here is an article HERE about a guy running OS X on an old 25mhz 68k Centris with PPC, abeit slow...
