ZX81
This 15.4 notebook looks to compete head on with the new mac notebook Looking the specifications of processor and graphics options (ATI 1400 imminent seemingly) it shouts compatible to me anyone got one? they are much less than a mac notebook dell canada site, canadian dollars http://www1.ca.dell.com/content/products/p...DHS1&l=en&s=dhs Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11191-dell-6400-review-wanted/ Share on other sites
RFMan
We'll find out soon, I ordered one today. At under 1400$CAN for a fully loaded machine (1 GB RAM - 1 DIMM, 100 GB 7200 RPM HDD, 1680x1050 screen, Dual-layer burner) it was too good to pass up. Makes the MacBook Pro look like one hell of a rip-off. From what I can tell, the Wi-Fi is the only component that seems to have issues at this time. Looks like it may be possible to swap the mini-PCI card with one that does work however. Dell says I should have it by Friday, I'll do some experimenting on the weekend. thrunner
Please beware that a lot of Core Duo laptops are having problem installing or running stably with 10.4.5. Specifically, the Acers and Dell E1505. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11191-dell-6400-review-wanted/#findComment-78171 Share on other sites

gooki
Sound doesn't work. Networking is hit and miss. I can't get my wifi to work, others can. But other than that it runs like a beauty even with just the one core enabled. Best thing is the 1680x1050 video support right from first boot. Wuahaha
Just got my new laptop last week and the spec are shown in my sig. I think 6400 is the same as E1505. I've successfully installed from 10.4.4/10.4.5 DVD Patched MYZ iso. I've tried both 10.4.4/10.4.5, but still no sound. I've check the System profile, no build-in audio, no wireless, unstable ethernet. I've tried reading a sorts of guides, but I dun really understand and know how to edit or patch things. Any ideas? Please can anyone help me thanks !! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11191-dell-6400-review-wanted/#findComment-90065 Share on other sites
RobNyc
I was thinking of getting that Dell with duo core too, but only thing I've seen to like from dell is the notebooks are cute thats about it. I've maxed out a HP notebook Duo Core 2ghz (15.4) 2gb ddr2 100gb hd (5400rpm) wireless dvd+/-/rw/r cd-rw dual-layer , geforce go 7400 128mb dedicated - 128mb shared for $1,800 thats way cheaper than the dells then I saw the 17'in HP Duo Core 2.16ghz 2gb ddr2 100gb hd 7200rpm all the same specs the one on top has but geforce go 7400 256mb for $2,000 still beats dell. I'm still looking around .. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11191-dell-6400-review-wanted/#findComment-97353 Share on other sites
marliwahoo
Just get the mac. Unless you want to spend a lot of time with updates and drivers. The mac will work well and be completely up to date. Software updates will be easy and you will have an excellent machine. Playing with a hacked version on osx is fun but it takes a lot of time and effort to stay up to date. Alsmost everyone has a least one issue (sound in - for example) and some of these issues may never be fixed. Don't get me wrong I do love being able to play with osx on my intel machine. But if I was buying - I would just buy the mac. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11191-dell-6400-review-wanted/#findComment-97543 Share on other sites
