randomblame
skype calling limit ?! interesting reply, it's an incomplete sentance, it's only 3 words and it includes not only a question mark but also an exclamation point. Maybe next time say something meaningful rather than trying to raise your post count Edit: I see you've edited your post good, now it makes sense There's nothing wrong with it I just think he's attracting a little bit too much attention to himself when he should probably be laying low and maybe then he could keep a website for more than a few days at a time Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10981-maxxuss-takes-on-skype/#findComment-68843 Share on other sites
thrunner
I just think he's attracting a little bit too much attention to himself when he should probably be laying low and maybe then he could keep a website for more than a few days at a time Quite true. He has taken on Apple, and now Intel and Skype (Ebay). Let's see, that is about one quarter to one third of a TRILLION dollars in capitalization worth of companies there Maxxuus strikes me as someone looking for new and tough challenges and no doubt someone from these companies will be calling on him soon (for a lawsuit or for a job, I am not sure which one first). By the way, don't you think it would be better to remove the link to the story since it has a direct link to Maxxuss website? kday
That limit is unethical business practices anyway, IMO. I don't think Skype would want to do much about it, since it would bring in negative PR. Apple on the other hand..... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10981-maxxuss-takes-on-skype/#findComment-68895 Share on other sites

Apple on the other hand..... it's unethical for skype to limit it's software to a particular type of hardware??? I'm think of a corporation, two syllables, starts with 'A', sounds like Chapel... Are we going to start bantering around ethical computing practices the way we banter around what is copyright infringement and what is stealing? Your friendly Chapel and associaties do not care what you think as long as you buy their product and it is in their best interest to make it as hard as possible for you to get away with not buying them. <- ethics police Vs. copyright infringement police -> oh, and the DMCA police are sitting in back row throwing pop corn at the little kids. thrunner
He'll get a job offer before anything else...Let's hope so but the story is very similar to that of "DVD Jon" (who also defied Apple, Hollywood and many other large corporations): Johansen's second DeCSS trial began in Oslo on December 2, 2003, and resulted in an acquittal on December 22, 2003. Økokrim announced on January 5, 2004 that it would not appeal the case to the Supreme Court. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_Johansen Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10981-maxxuss-takes-on-skype/#findComment-68963 Share on other sites

-.-
So the limitation isn't in the hardware but induced to manipulate the consumer, I agree, very unethical behavior, there should be laws against it, very strict laws with very high penalties. I would like see this sort of thing getting much greater press. Companies are way over the top with their outragious behavior of late, and speaking from a staunch unblemished lifelong record as a pro-capitalist pig, I say the time has come for this sort of thing to be squashed. mac sussed
Being a cyanical and opinionated anti-capitalist, i am chuffed that maxxuss produced this patch along with the mammoth osx efforts. I like to believe that his politics are similar to mine. I think that ANY corporation is open to 're-appropriation' of products, and i actively encourage piracy. I have never paid for windows, and will never. That is not a boast, but a firm extension of my political beliefs. Voting is pointless. Going to demonstations is not. That is a true expression of ones voice. By patching Skype, maxxuss is expressing himself in a much more powerful way than by voting. It is irrelevant that very few people will ever use this patch. I see him as an activist. I am sure he is eastern European, because there is far less capitalistic brainwashing in eastern Europe than western Europe. I live in England and am always sickened by the stream of shoppers in Birmingham city centre. Those products are always maded in Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Cambodia ...... Sweat shops. Profit is exploitation. We are not given any true choice in consumption, only who is going to take our money. Osx, windows - all the same. Linux is TOTALLY different. Think open source. Think creatively. Think humanity. Think indifferently. Maxxuss - we love you. Must go now my medication is ready. I am especially in agreeance of the recycling, interpretation and modification of 'intellectual property' in the same way most are accustomed to in physical property. I'd buy you a beer any day!
