Very Thought Provoking XD

1*10^6 times better than the 'Thought of the days' they give us at school...

I calculated 1*10^6 by bring up the Python GUI (IDLE) and typing 10**6 in the pyhton shell prompt :D

Nice quotes Alessandro.

Not if I am the one getting paid - I do get paid for my software skills.

Ironically I test new Linuxes everytime during the holidays. :P

Why do you say so?

I'm not saying he's not brilliant, just that he likes to make sure people know he's brilliant even if he has to tell them himself. Plus, I'd guess he's the type who just loves to hear his name spoken and/or written as much as possible. Don't take that the wrong way. I respect the man and his work, but people with large chips on their shoulders annoy me a bit. Folks like Judd Vinet, Jordan Hubbard, and Daniel Robbins have more smarts than Linus will ever have, but you don't see them spouting off about it all the time and kissing themselves in the mirror. If you don't know why I say these things about Linus you haven't read enough of his writings or listened to enough of his interviews.

vapor i agree to a point... have you ever met him in person? he is really down to earth and well him and I share the same sense of humor. Not full of himself but it is funny to see people like you get mad over somethings so trivial. you don't see the punchline and get angry because you missed out on the joke and when the rest of the people are done laughing you finally realize why it is funny then go to laugh, feel humiliated, then get angry and say the same things...

Best one ever...

What I don't get is why people think he isn't that smart? Have you ever tried to write an entire OS all on your own with your own code and nowhere to start from except a closed source environment? He has. Judd Vinet, Jordan Hubbard, and Daniel Robbins all took his kernel and re-implemented them more intelligently but as we all know it is easier to take someone else's idea and improve upon it. Linus knew this and it is why OSS is so amazing. ignorance peeves me off

lol - very funny. liked 7 and 8 in particular.

I guess you're saying that because his kernel was called Linux (i.e. after himself) but he actualy wanted to call it Freax originally. One of his friends who was looking after the severs at his university called it linux and persuaded torvalds to use the name.
