Rich_Wit_It
Well I downloaded the new 1.14 and saw that it had support for GMA 950 and I had everything backed up, so I thought what the hell, might as well try. I installed and it hung the first time, so I thought I might as well try again. The second time it booted, and I got all excited, until I went to use my TrackPad, which was not working along with my keyboard. This was a new install so I didn't have OSX86 Tools to install the old Kext, and I don't know how manually. I sent it to myself and installed the Kexts. I then restarted and viola, it worked! I was loving not having the mouse archiving anymore in iTunes and such. Unfortunately, it just came back tonight, so I used Pacifist to install the driver in the Leo4Allv3. Now I have a fully working 10.5.5 machine. Mysticus C*, you are a god as far as I am concerned. Thank you thank you THANK YOU for the opportunity to let the less unfortunate update. Cheers my man, cheers. Here is what options I choose in the PostInstall: Kernal: 9.4.0 Stage XNU Chipset: Restore Video: Intel GMA 950 laptop; then used Pacifist to restore to original Audio: Restore Network: Restore System Functions: SMBIOS 667 MHz Hello Mysticus C*, I have EVGA 680i, 2GB, SCSI hard drives, Realtek 8169 nic card, nVideo graphics card I followed your topic below and installed iATKOS v1.0 r3 for 10.5.1 http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=87901 Then I used this thread post below to update(1.1.4) http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=109102 ( note 1.1.3a did not work for me..) prepare worked, combo update worked, then ran post update worked and 1st reboot was done and boots and then it got stuck there.. what should i do ? please help. Mysticus C*
I added another hard drive and I will follow instructions from Mysticus C* to copy the image to the second hard drive so that I can boot from second drive and then experiment with it.. you dont need to add another hdd to test systems, all you need is appropriate partitioning before you install you rmain system min 2 osx partitions and depending on your needs additional partitions 1 for main 1 for test (clone of main) the guide is for general idea about how to partition... sizes will vary of course depending on your hdd size... also make sure that, if you are choosing mbr, only the first 3 can be directly bootable (primary partitions) after 3rd partitions, everything is secondary... for example, xp wouldnt boot from secondary, or osx bootloader cant load from the secondary... however, if you have osx bootable in one of the first 3 partitions, you can clone it to secondary and it will boot of course bootloader will come from your main, just system will load from secondary... for example, i have 500 gb hdd, and 7 partitions on it... 1-2-3 directly bootable (triple boot - osx-xp-vista) 4-5-6-7 or osx partitions but if i make test systems, and clone 1 to for 4 or 5 or 6 or 7 or 8, they will be able to load! because bootloader in main (1) is working, and at countdown screen, i can choose 4or5or6or7 and boot from them... hope you understand, if you do the clone to another hdd, you will need to specify hdd/partition numbers as well using rd=diskXsY (X=0,1,2,3... Y=1,2,3... pay attention to the starting numbering) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109102-complete-updates-for-newbies-and-all-currently-1055-combo-only-intel-cpus/page/59/#findComment-921243 Share on other sites
Rob_Quads
I've run into a problem running this update. I followed the instructions and downloaded the 3 parts. Ran the pre-install bit, then ran the Apple update. I noted it said Do Not reboot. I had to pop away from the screen for a few minutes while the Apple update was running. When I returned to the screen, it was greyed out with a message about having to reboot. There was no way to get back to the desktop, all keys just did nothing. On rebooting no-surprise it now just keeps rebooting. Is it time to start again and reinstall - have ai trashed my system or is there a way of applying the customizing after a reboot? kylegypo
Im about the update using this method and I'm thinking to myself "Remember to customize,Remember to customize,Remember to customize!" Mysticus C*
one the reasons i get pissed off is because people dont read things correctly, or they dont follow properly either way it is the same mistake people making, and complain that everything is done as it should in the guide, but wait no tons of mixture of wrong choices... and expect me to help? before anyone apply something, which they have no clue about, first read? and than ask for possible choices... it is either the habbit of next next problem, or wrong choice being made... thedrow: i suggest you to read around first to know about kernel, drivers boot commands/flags before you start updating... rob-quads: read post#1 for the clone guide and read post#1448, post#1449, post#1460 will get the same idea? there is an issue related to nforce mobos, which i m trying to track down... if you wanna help along with jollyrogers, you are welcomed, but dont complain about it, just do the repartitining, and follow the clone guide, once u do it, you will learn how valuable it is and how much headache it will save u Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/109102-complete-updates-for-newbies-and-all-currently-1055-combo-only-intel-cpus/page/59/#findComment-921775 Share on other sites

JollyRogers
Well I am now done. I used my original working image, and used dd via linux to create another image on a separate disk. So two working volumes, one called Leopard (original) and the other Meow(image). Booted off of Leopard and applied the pre update to Meow. Started the OSX 10.5.5 combo update and it got at 70% done writing files then the machine stopped responding. I think I know why... The original image is using the meDevil kext for SATA. With large disk usage, it locksup (only 2G of memory actually installed in the system). So I thought, no big deal. REboot of the original image and keep trying until I get a good install of the combo update onto Meow and then apply the Post Update pkg to Meow. Well that is when it really got bad. My original image won't boot. I have numerous localhost kextd[some #]: a link/load error occured for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/*.kext flash up when using -v boot option. then it just hangs at Login Window Application. No KP or anything. In fact it isn't locked up even. There looks to be about 68 of them, kinda hard to grab them... Update: hmmm, tried -v -f and it booted up the original volume.... OK so, is there a way around large disk writes using meDevils kext? that seems to be the issue. I am trying again now... Update 2: OK I got through the large disk write finally and started applying the post combo update. I SCREWED UP. Applied it to my original volume, using ToH 9.2.0 sleep, and my other stuff . Oh well, my bad. I am now applying to my test image "Meow". Used Toh 9.2.0 NForce Test NVInject and NForce Fix Audio ADI 1988B Network - Just Restore. Rebooting now.... Blue screen... It never did the boot/reboot sequence. I booted w/ -f -v and got in yellow the failed to load AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. Because of MY FAILURE TO PAY ATTENTION, my original image will not load now either. Stops with Error SyncInfo:Boot -cache avoidance timed out OK will mess with them a little more, guess since they aren't KPing I can get into it from the command line.... OK went into single user mode, and moved AppleIntelCPUPowerMangement.kext out of the way as a AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementkext_orig. Once I did that, I got the auto reboot. Then it went to the blue screen. -v shows a sandbox error or something... I will give details as soon as I can. I had that heppened to me once. Just pop in your install DVD then go through the usual procedure of preparing to install then before the last step for full install click customize uncheck everything else except the Darwin bootloaded and install away. it shouldn't take long.. lastly just restart and hope that the bootloader installs right. This had happened to me twice before i did the clone partition and i successfully recovered from the MBR corruption. Hope this helps. Mysticus C*
@jolly: start fresh, make a full clean install of either kalyway or jas ... (dont do dd all the time) + boot from dvd, go to disk utility, and make appropriate partitioning like similar to guide (main-test1-test2-...windows if u want windows) and than continue to install, finished, restart... + boot to main and make sure you do all your final adjustments to make everything working as they should... once everything working? + go to disk utility and clone main to test? test1 or whatever u named? + finished? to make sure things are working, restart, F8 at countdown, and choose test partition... working? ok restart back again... and boot to main, because this is our intention to install the update from another partition, so we can track down the error, and not cause trouble... Note: if large memory (it is actually called 64 bit issue, but shouldnt cause any trouble bcoz file is not bigger than 1-1.5 gb) causes trouble during install, it should not break your main , since non of the files will be written on main now here is a workaround but longer approach... do you still have my 10.5.3 or 10.5.4 updates? if so? do them first, and than, download a delta 10.5.5 update which is half the size i think? and continue that way... to 10.5.5 and let me know your approach and results... i know it is a bit of a hassle, but not much i can do until i figure out what is really going wrong... sometimes easy way is the longer painfull way... @rich wit it: that is a normal thing with the applecpupowermnagement, i explained it many times, that yellow is nothing to worry about, and caused by the disabler kext! To be able to do the updates correctly, you need to either remove the applecpupowermanagement or you have to disable it... yellow error is showing bcoz you are using disabler driver... you can get rid of it by removing first applecpupowermanagement than disabler... however, your issue with bootloader is not related to update i think, your problem description is somewhat awkward, because, you say that "I never really changed it back to boot from HD after the install of Leo4Allv3. If I don't have the BIOS set to boot from DVD it just sits there and blinks." which indicates that you already have bootloader problem? or you are telling me confusing things? easiest way is somewhat similar to escalara's desciption... but bootloader installers have sometimes different results to different way installing them... also varies from hardware to hardware at times... one bootloader installer works fine, in one and not the other... so you can try different distros to figure out what works better for you... you can use the iatkos r3 dvd and selecting only efi bootloader, will do it in 10 secs for you... and u can restart... after that... to test... others may take longer time to do it, but no guarantee that it will work, since some of them are using scripts to detect if any bootloader exists, so depending on crumps left in your bootloader, it may or may not install correctly... thats why people are having sometimes problems... also another issue may be related to bios and how it passes/reads boot information... excalara: thx for reading the clone guide not many people like to read full post, esp when it is a bit long... escalera
excalara: thx for reading the clone guide not many people like to read full post, esp when it is a bit long... My pleasure... Though i should be the one thanking you for providing a very clear explanation and easy to follow steps in properly updating our Osx86... On another note, I think the most common mistakes people make are getting overwhelmed by seemingly complex procedures in getting a stable update or a working system. It is actually just as easy if you try to understand what you are actually doing and what it does. From there if something goes wrong you can easily realize what you have done wrong by method of deduction. Mindset should be calm and collective instead of a tensed approach. By being calm and relaxed, it is much much easier to digest every information written in Mysticus guide or whichever guide you are using. Don't just follow the instructions. Read it and Understand and dont panic! my .02 cents. Mysticus C*
well said, i usually say it that way but people usually dont like to read too much and read seriously enough... for example: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...&pid=626130 above link is my nforce chipsets guide i made when i used to have nforce mobo... if you take a look at it, first thing i had to made is to write READ and UNDERSTAND this before you jump to installations... That was a full guide with everything... Overtime, people put feedback, and we overcame many issues which i pointed and fixed in first 2 posts so people dont need to search around... still people refuses to read it... people dont learn the very basics of of how systems work and what some most important components stands for... you dont need to be a programmer to know what kernel is, you need to know what it does though you dont need to know binaries of drivers to use it, you need to know what it does... and why you need it... and where you can find it... file attributes for example... how to assign change attributes... and most common ones... i explained everything in my guide, still some stupid dumbs come around ask how to do it... when i say "stupid" "dumb" or F word to someone, i look bad when you read it directly, makes me look very rude, but if you look at the background of the information and instances as a whole, actually i m doing good to discourage some serious waste of time noobs and save time on hassles... like what? first thing/sentence in my guides usually is DONT PM ME PERSONAL PROBLEMS (it doesnt mean I dont like to answer them, read on) DISCUSS THEM IN THE TOPIC, SO EVERYONE CAN READ AND LEARN! (see what i mean? this is a community stuff, so everyone should learn... But people usually want every single step being automated process so they put less input, and done in one step... no hassle involved... ROBOTS.... we are not! we have some AI in our brains so, we need to use and improve it rather than stick to one program... My very first sentence is usually ignored and I receive, in average 10-15 PMs every day for asking personal help... add that people either intentionaly send me duplicate copies of same pm or unintentionally pressing send message button 3-4 times (due to insanelymac's increased traffic, servers respond slow so people think it is not working) so in average i receive 15-20 dubplicate messages everyday... see where i m going? 25-35 messages (50-70% of pm allowance) just for waste of time... if i dont delete them quickly, my pm box is full withing 3-4 hours... i warn one guy, not to pm me for problem, he responds in pm for asking another help, i warn him again, he respons again, i swear at him, and he argues, that i m being rude... i put a template for files requests, with the note saying PM is for only file requests, and ask/discuss help questions in topic, people get offended without understanding it as a whole, that why i complain for their pm? i m not complaining and the intention is another warning,, and it is just a warning for god nows how many times i did it in topic, in guide, and in pm, so that people know what the pm is... because there are considerebly big numbers of noobs that starts flooding my pm box with help requests, even though i said not to! someone asks help, i tell what to do in steps, and than he does something else, and complain that it didnt work, why are you trying to waste my time? i tell to do this and that, and he refuses to do so, what shall i do? if you want help, why not listening? if u are too clever and know everytg, why are you here, and wasting your time? sometimes i flame wrong people because mising information and previous bad temper with someone who deserves... good people also burn for posting in the right time so i apoligize for that... but cant help it sometimes... there are many other issues like this, but not needed to waste more space for things that are already known... long story short read my quote from my nforce topic's intro speech the title of that topic is newbies guide (not noobs guide, i hate noobs) ... Why I added this Paragraph? Most people do not like to read long stuffs... New people come and go everyday to the scene, but not all of them are very successful. Why? Because they are noobs, they are stupid. Why start too harsh? Well I didnt start harsh actually, check the title? It says "newbie", i would say NOOB, but I didnt. Because some people are clever, although they are new to the stuffs. They first read what is said before they jump to conclusion. What does it mean? When you read through this topic, or any topic through the forum, you will understand why, when you understand the whole osx project concept... It usually takes no longer than 2-3 weeks to get familiar with OSX, after couple of installations and bricks... But it doesnt mean you will be expert, you will only be familiar and will be able to do some stuffs on your own, or with little guidance... I am no where near being expert, just an experienced user... Because I also take advices and guidance at times from other experienced users or experts as well... How do you become experienced? You must know what hardware you have on your PC in the first place, like check my signature to see how to learn some of them... JollyRogers
ok my issue is simply blue screen, which means video driver. I keep trying to move NVDAResman.kext and the system keeps replacing it??? As far as the sandbox issue, I compared against system.log in real MAC PRO and see that also there, so I don't think it's an issue... I got my original image to boot also. I think what was happening was that when I would boot in single user mode with -s and use /sbin/mount -ur (or whatever it was), when I was moving the video driver files, it was ACTUALLY editing my original image!!! So I am going to disconnect that drive and give it another go this evening for a bit. BTW what are those other kernels? The vodoo magic ones? will they work with nforce motherboards??? Rich_Wit_It
I had that heppened to me once. Thanks, it worked like a charm. Oddly enough, it took just as long as installing as it did when I originally installed. Must be a Leo4All thing. Even weirder is that it reset some of my personal stuff, or just the one thing. Here I am trying to open a new tab with Command + T and it's not doing anything. Then I realize that it is back to the control key as originated. EDIT: The reason it reset {censored} is because it like half-assed installed 10.5.2. I still had some features from 10.5.5, but running 5.2. So back to no bootloader... This is the noob coming out of me, but my laptop has a media control on the side, for volume, play, stop, etc. Does anyone know of a way of getting this to work? Or maybe just a Mac replacement that does the same thing?
