Got 10.4.4 Install DVD WORKING!

I tried the 10.4.4 install DVD, but cannot get pass the grey apple screen. Its just kept rebooting on its own.

 

My system Specs

 

2 x 2.8Ghz Xeon Irwindale

Iwill DN800-SLI Intel Chipset E7525

2 X 1GB Kingston DDR2 ECC REG

Elsa Geforce 6600GT 128MB

1 X 36GB Raptor and 1 X 80GB Seagate on Native SATA

Creative Audigy 2 Value PCI

Sony DVD-ROM

LG DVD-Writer

in mine if i live the ?8 seconds go... i receive a boot.apple.com.list not found message... but if i press enter before... it boot normal....its weird

Ok I got into the setup blue screen, but I encounter some error and I cannot find any harddisk in the Disk Utility.

rd selects the partition/harddrive to boot from

 

disk0 means first harddrive

 

s1 first partition

s2 second partition

 

normaly it always is the second one, dunno why, maybe because of the f***ed up disk utility

 

 

how to solve the com.apple.Boot.plist thing, dunno, still waiting for my notebook to test

for the ethernet stuff, i have here all the 10.4.3 extension /System/Library/Extension , only about 20mb, you can find them on bay where the pirates lay ^^

 

so, ill keep you up, if you have any suggestions and tipps to solve things, let me know

too less informations, what did you exactly do, how did you installed mac os x, i cant help you with this less informations

Well ive completely followed the instructions. Downloaded "hacked" 10.4.4 OS X. Installed it on my harddrive which i have windows on. Named it OS X the partition. Cant get it starting when i write the command rd=disk0s2 , tested all kinds of variations.

i see two versions of 10.4.4 dvd iso, one has HOTiso in the title, the other is unlabeled but tracked by demonoid. Are these both patched? The HOTiso one is bigger by almost 100mb

I just run the "-v" command. I also just found out that my southbridge 6300ESB has 6 I/O for Harddisk, 4 Pata and 2 Sata. And when the generic driver was loaded, it can max support the first 4 I/O which are 4 PATA. Unless I disable 2 PATA or change the setting to only 2 SATA, the harddisk started to appears.

 

For the NV40 thingy(See pervious attach pic), I still have no clue whats wrong with it. Though I'm using Elsa 6600GT 128MB PCI-Express.

Ok so this method erases the whole hard disk with the Windows OS on it? Is there anyway of keeping my XP so that i can use it when i like.

 

I only wana install OSX for mainly tests purposes to find out if i can get used to the OS and then if i really wana fork out £1500+ for the macbook pro. So depend on my XP.

 

I know a lot of you hate windows users (don't understand that) but be nice please.

Actually, I think Mac users do not like Windows, rather than the users. It is the windows users that hate macs and mac users and call us "zealots" simply because we embrace a better operating system.

If you're having trouble booting the install dvd, try using VMWare

 

squap: you'll probably have to format with disk util, but it doesn't take long

 

ace: you don't have to erase the whole disk. partition it ahead of time, set to type AF, and format with disk util when you install

 

mimix: that one works, yes, you might see about finding a 10.4.5 patch for it though. this allows you to go to 10.4.5 in one step.

This fixed my problem -- All we need now is a perm solution.

 

Also does the 10.4.5 patch on the iso work with AMD cpus? It says intel next to it so I unchecked it.

I have been playing with a mac mini for a week and liked it so tried to see what it looks like on an AMD.

I've downloaded the 10.4.4 iso image and installed it and had the same problems with login manager

crashing.

 

Here's what i did to make it work, I hope this will be some help for the amd guys here

 

boot again with the install DVD, go to the command prompt

 

the disk I installed system on was disk0s1, there is a directory Maxxxus_AMD....., cd there

there should be three files there : cpuid_patches.txt, mach_kernel.amd, patcher

 

normally you should apply the patch by typing ./patcher cpuid_patches.txt but it would fail because of the paths in the cpuid_patches.txt file, so do a chroot /Volumes/disk0s1 so it becomes your /

 

now you can apply patch by running patcher and reboot.

 

after a reboot i was able do define my keyboard ( there's even a polish one which I use .

 

now will anyone tell me how to change display resolution and freq ?

I think i will have to look for nvidia drivers, it's a 6600 but osx says it's a generic vga with 1024x768.

Unluckily there's also a problem with ethernet card ( an nv4 chipset motherboard ), so I am not even in

the middle of the way.

Lets keep trying to find a permanent solution for the rd=diks shizzle problem.

Maybe setting up the HD under 10.4.3? Anyone tried this? Wil try the extensions from u know where for ethernet fixes.

What i think is the main problem is,

 

the darwin boot loader doen't load (grey blinking thingie in the top left)

 

You put in the cd, it uses the loader of the cd and you have to enter the rd=disk0s2 command (or something like it) because of the apple.com.boot.plist error.

 

You have to enter this because i think the cd-darwin doesnt know where the apple.com.boot.plist file is so you tell the cd darwin with the rd=disk0s2 where that file is.

 

In short:

THe problem i think is the Darwin Boot Loader from the 10.4.4 install disc. I think its corrupted (grey blinking thing) so it doesnt load. If it would load probably you wont have to enter the rd command because this darwin knows where the apple.com.boot.plist file is

 

Can anyone support my theorie?

OK guys, figure this out:

I have 2 64 bit machines, one is a rather older 64bit athlon machine, asus an8-e, the other one, an intel abit ab9 pro duo core 2...

 

I've tested both the JaS editions of 10.4.6 and 10.4.7.. they both give me the error of "System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found" on both machines. Note this is with the Bios set with the DVD Burner as the first boot device, the others dont matter.

 

On the ASUS AMD board, I decided to use the mobo's Boot Menu (no, i do not mean the boot configuration in the bios/cmos; nor do i mean any OS based program). This particular board actually tells the user that F8 brings up the boot loader, it's the only board i've seen actaully say what it's boot menu hotkey is.

Anyways, using the boot menu and selecting the dvd burner, I got the DVD working liquid perfect... beautiful install (people said it's slow, took jsut as long on my g3 mac). And the OS runs sooooo fast!

 

However, on my Abit AB9 Pro mobo, I've not been able to find the way to make the boot menu appear.. so i get the errror and cannot install.

 

Might try looking up your board's boot menu hot keys, and I doubt it'd be in the mobo manual's, as I have a socket a mobo and it has no documentation of it, and i've seen many clients mobo's with the same thing.

 

Oh ya, if anybody discovers the hotkey for the boot menu of the abit ab9 series mobo, please tell me!

(remember, not the hotkey to open the bios)

 

Think of this menu as an on the fly way of booting from another hardware device without changing settings in your bios ;P

Oh, I forgot to ask, is it possible to have VMWare run from a PE Live CD? I'm getting tired of not being able to boot from this disk and not finding any info on the web about this hotkey that apparently doesnt exist..

Knowing me, I'll probably try it before I spend time installing win again just to wipe it.
