ghostdog 5.0
I installed OS 10.4 on an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ on an Nforce 3 chipset motherboard (Epox 8KDA3I). It installs everything and hung on the part where it says it is going to restart the computer. So I go ahead and reset it manually. It begins to load and it starts to play that welcome video with different languages saying welcome, which is really lame BTW. It finished playing and then some text at the top says generating error.log to some file name. Then it begins to play that video again, and again and again. Is there anything I can do? R. Bear Helms
The video can be disabled by creating a file somewhere, but I forget the name and where it goes. It's like Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/.whateveritscalled However, most working systems can play that video without this problem. I'd be suspecting you don't have all the AMD patches in place, or that the nForce chipset support is boned for OS X, which would be what I'd gamble is the problem. JaS
Boot up with the -v -x options, set up your account then boot normal,-x is safe boot and will disable the video Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10799-welcome-video-repeats-after-installation/#findComment-67708 Share on other sites
ghostdog 5.0
I tried the -v -x options and it says at the top localhost /System/Library/CoreServices/loginWindow.app/contents/macos/loginwindow: login window application started Then it shows a blue screen with no text then the screen disappears and the text above comes again. Toasted Logic
Ghost, Did you ever manage to get yours working? It appears we are having the same problem. I installed using the Hotiso 10.4.4 and had to reboot it manually myself after a successful install. My hardware is similar, which leads me to believe it's the nForce3 chipset. I have an AMD64 3200+ (clawhammer) and a Gigabyte-branded nForce3 250 (K8NS). What video card are you using? ATI? I'm on ATI x800pro AGP 8x... Does anyone know if the hotiso 10.4.4 is patched for ATI? In my log i do see an error regarding an NVidia driver, though this could be a problem with the nForce chipset, not a video card driver. holygrail
Just for the sake of thread consolidation, this problem is also reported here - http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=10876. I have an ATI x800 AIW XT and I have the same problem. Booting with "Display Mode"="1280x1024x32" and/or with -v -x doesnt get me anywhere either. ModeZt
same problem for me =( HOTiSO 10.4.4 install DVD AMD A64 3000+ Newcastle ( SSE2 only ) nForce3-250 chipset ( Gigabyte K8NS motherboard ) ATI 9800 AGP I think it's not a big problem that the system is not restarting itself ( when i start in a single user mode and type "restart" it stops all processes, but it is not restarting.. some powermanagement trouble.. nothing to worry about ) I've repared the permissons from the install dvd - it didn't help. mainecrab
I had this same problem and I finally fixed it. Now just have to fix the booting and internet problem. I have the Hotiso dvd and installed with no problem, went to boot with rd=disk0s2 but would replay the video over and over. I booted the DVD again with the option rd=disk0s2 -s then make sure the system you can edit by running the two commands it says.fsck -fy and mount -uw / . I then went to the Maxximus folder and copied the mach_kernel.amd to the root and renamed the mach_kernel to mach_kernal.bak then renamed the mach_kernel.amd to mach_kernel. Then I went back to the Maxximus directory then ran the command chmod 755 patcher. Then ./patcher cpuid_patches.txt. Restart the computer with the DVD again and go to the disk utilities and fix the permissions. Restart again. Boot with the DVD again with F8 and rd=disk0s2. It should work now. Hope this helps. ghostdog 5.0
I am able to do the " fsky-fy "command and it checks everything and says it's ok. Doing the "mount -uw/. " does not work for me. Please forgive me my infamiliarities, i am used to dos and windows only, but I tried going to a maxximus folder typing " cd /maxximus " and was unsuccessful. I tried the "chmod 755 patcher" command but it did find the file but the chmod command seemed to function fine. Can anyone help in somewhat beginner terms :pirate2: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10799-welcome-video-repeats-after-installation/#findComment-71305 Share on other sites
mainecrab
You should follow the exact syntax that is gives you when you boot rd=disk0s2 -s it will give you the syntax for writing to the volume. As for getting to maxximus folder, I did not know the full path so I typed it as that. You an type ls and get a directory listing, then cd Max then press tab and it will complete the directory for you. I guess its a little easier being used to using linux for these commands. The chmod command would not work because you were not in the right directory. To copy you would cd to the Maxximus directory and copy the .amd kernel to the root where the other kernel is. Rename the old kernel so it does not start and then rename the new kernel so it does start. If you need help with the commands, you can search for basic linux or unix commands as they are practically the same. I am having fun trying to learn these different OS and still waiting for Fedora 5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10799-welcome-video-repeats-after-installation/#findComment-71360 Share on other sites
ghostdog 5.0
If OS X 10.4.4 is the only operating system installed I need to use rd=disk0s1 , right? If I use os2 it says it is waiting for device. mainecrab
You can try either. It should be the same way that you got to the screen where ther welcome video was playing over and over. ghostdog 5.0
Ok I got it ! It runs kind sluggish but it's pretty cool that it's going and I understand it's still "not supposed to even be running right now". What I did was like you guys said. I did "rd=disk0s1 -s "after booting from the dvd and pressing f8. This takes you to the command prompt root. Then "fsck -fy " , then it does some checks, takes a few seconds. Then "mount -uw /" you get no return back, it just goes to the next line. Then you do "cd /maxximuss...... ", it's a really long directory name so make sure you spell it right. Then "chmod 755 patcher" Then "./patcher cpuid_patches.txt" it applies a bunch of patches apparently and scrolls down the screen several times. After that I reset and did "rd=disk0s1" and it booted to the welcome screen after the video and it worked! Hope this helps Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10799-welcome-video-repeats-after-installation/#findComment-71799 Share on other sites

dessuca
any suggestions for someone using 10.4.7 getting the same issue? I installed, it wanted to restart (never did, cold booted 6 mins later), and now it boots up to 'localhost /system/library/coreservices/loginwindos.app/contents/macos/loginwindow: login window application started' on the same black bg/white text that it boots with until that point. I don't have a maxximus anysortoffolder to try the fix detailed here (Jas iso) I'm totally green with this, so forgive me if I have missed the obvious... thanks! ---------edit------------ I booted with -x and get panic(cpu 0 caller 0x002b66b9): nfs_boot_init failed with 6 debugger called: <panic> backtrace, format - frame : return address (4 potential args on stack) 0x2556ba84 : 0x128aea (0x3b9dcc 0x2556baa8 0x130c94 0x0) 0x2556bac4 : 0x2b66b9 (0x3d1860 0x6 0x2556bb04 0x3afa45eb) 0x2556bea4 : 0x1c5ee0 (0x4020d00 0x413af78 0x2556bec4 0x33eb30) 0x2556bee4 : 0x30f2e3 (0x3f8afe0 0x1 0x2556bf98 0x20) 0x2556bfb4 : 0x135f0e (0x0 0x7 0x0 0x0) 0x2556bfd4 : 0x196b69 (0x0 0xffffffff 0x4431f8 0x49b800) backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0x0 kernel version: darwin kernel version 8.4.1: tue jan 3 18:23:53 pst 2006; root:xnu-792.7.90.obj~1/RELEASE_I386 (yep, typed that out..) not sure if that helps at all.. doesn't seem likely amd 64 3200 (venice) evga nforce 4 motherboard geforce 7800 pci-e video using the Jas 10.4.7 iso Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10799-welcome-video-repeats-after-installation/#findComment-202601 Share on other sites
