Hello all!

So after unsuccesfully trying to get OSX86 to boot on my hp pavillion, I had an 'accident' with it and traded it in for a new little Sony VAIO vgn-sz110b. This comp uses the GMA 950 and has the centrino duo processor, and the same chipset as the macbook pro(as far as I am aware.. forgot what its # is though).

Anyway, OSX 10.4.3 installed fine. No problems. However, I can't get the 1280x800 mode to work, it is not an option.

I have read all the notes on how to modify the kexts to make this mode available but, seeing as my card already supports CI and QE, I don't really want to do the trick to replace it with a kext that will dissable this functionality.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/knew how to do this. Are there kexts from the macbook pro available which I could install (since the hardware is the same)? Would upgrading to 10.4.5 solve my troubles?

Thanks a bunch.

Charles

Maybe you can change "screen expansion option" disable for enable in your BIOS.

After changing, you'll be able to select 1280*800 mode in system prefs.

I read this method in Japanese BBS called "ni-channel".

I have the same laptop and have been unable to change the res from 1024x768. I think it is because OSX is using the generic VESA driver because there is no driver for the geforce card in that laptop.

When I had 10.4.3 installed there was acceleration though, so if you want better video support I would recommend downgrading

Having more luck here setting my Bios Boot Screen options to "Both" instead of "Auto" - this is when the computer thinks an external screen is there.

I don't have that screen option on my SZ ....

My SZ is made in Japan and bios was created by phoenix....

Do you know how to enable it to work?

If the lappy goes into stand-by... well it sort of stays there. Wifi does not work (As I expected it would not...). GMA950 works well... 1280x800 no problem. No sound so far. I really, really, really like this notebook... this yonah is really fast and this notebook is so cool running (unlike the HotBook Pro... ;o)

Regards...

hello,

how can i change "screen expansion option" disable for enable in my BIOS.

i am using sony sz too.

help!

thank you very much

Press "F2" when the VAIO Boot Screen is displayed. When BIOS loads, go to "Advanced." Edit "LCD Screen Expansion" from "No" to "Yes." This will let OSX boot at 1280x800. Good luck!

thank you very much!

it work!

but ,it is not Native 1280x800 Resolution.(only 1024 x768)

what schould i do?

thank you!

I'm not sure if there is any more love for the nVidia chipset in this laptop (I'm waiting on wireless support before I jump on and buy one), but from what I've read, if you are still only getting 1024x768 make sure you are not in "speed" mode, ie use the INTEL graphics chip, not the nVidia one. Good luck! (And other folks, is nvidia support working better for you now?
