10.4.5 recognized that I had a PCI wireless card installed and detected it as Airport but it wouldn't connect. After doing this, little tweak it works 100%. Try it out if you have been having trouble.

edit /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist and change "en0" to "en1" and "0" to "1" as below:

<string>en1</string>

<key>IOInterfaceUnit</key>

<integer>1</integer>

credit is given to another member on this forum, I just can't find the original post. So, thanks

Hey, I have a Linksys Wireless B card, but it is not recognized as installed in the first place, anybody have any thoughts on that? I have 10.4.5 installed.

Basically to check if its installed, I try to get on the net, and then the Network Utility pops up and it only shows Phone Modem as one of the options. How can I get the OS to recognize my wireless card in the first place?

BTW its via PCI

Thanks for your help:)

The info goes into two different files. Follow this guide: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=23684

except there is a typo. For the first file edit, use this command:

sudo nano /System/Library/Extensions/IO80211Family.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAirPortBrcm4311.kext/Contents/Info.plist

i'm a newb to this whole scene so i don't know about that sudo nano stuff nor where to enter that info in. could you please tell me how to access that info
should i edit the broadcom thing as per the tutorial considering i have a microshaft card?

You're digging up excuses to just not do it, aren't you? Would I have suggested that guide if I didn't think it was the right one?

the compatibility list says modify plist to include 14e4, 4325

"14e4" is the vendor id for Broadcom

"4325" is the device id

Your Microsoft card has a Broadcom chip driving it and you need to edit the Broadcom driver in OSX.

But you would be wise to go to Windows and verify that the device id is really 4325 rather than depending upon the wiki to know what it is.
