thestevo
Apparently the main improvements, according to Uphuck forums, are in the boot process in addition to Apple updates. It is available at Demonoid. Detosx
I confess I am confused! "Intel CoreDuo Processors use SpeedStep Technology which is stable in OS X. If you have an Intel processor which uses this technology, you can enable throttling feature using the “SpeedStep” package which you can find under system drivers section. Note that speedstep kernel is included in iATKOS main system, so don’t select any of the kernels with speedstep support if you don’t want to experience kernel panics." This is saying that speedstep is the default main system kernel. Why then in the Patches is there Netkas's 9.2.0 kernel, which if I understand correctly is Netkas' speedstep kernel? Or is it his sleep kernel? If someone could clarify it would be helpful, thanks. Also, something I have always wondered but never found a definitive answer, being a laptop user should I be selecting 'Remove Thermal Kexts'? Thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104279-iatkos-v20i-released/#findComment-742899 Share on other sites

The Master
As far as I'm aware, SpeedStep is only of genuine use for laptops.... correct me if I'm wrong? Synaesthesia
Yes, it throttles your cpu and cuts the power requirement when it is not working hard. This is more advantageous in laptops, but good in desktops too... Why then in the Patches is there Netkas's 9.2.0 kernel, which if I understand correctly is Netkas' speedstep kernel? Standard kernel will most likely be 9.2.2 and the netkas is 9.2.0 - however, I cannot check this as I"m still downloading. But I do believe there is a 9.2.2 kernel out there. Detosx
I went over to the uphuck forum and the picture of the installer there is different (the post is 25th April) - in Patches it has kernel 9.2.0 TOH instead of Netkas. Even then the wording remains confusing "Note that speedstep kernel is included in iATKOS main system, so don't select any of the kernels with speedstep support if you don't want to have kernel panic." I'm just going to go with the default system kernel and select the intel speedstep package, plus the various things I know my laptop to have. i_Geek
@Detosx, same here... from one point of view, speedstep is included anyway in main system. from the other - it`s a option one can tick or untick. so, what`s the point here?... Detosx
@Detosx, same here... from one point of view, speedstep is included anyway in main system. from the other - it`s a option one can tick or untick. so, what`s the point here?... I think the picture we saw was of an older installer; the picture on uphucks forum has 9.2.0 TOH as a patch option rather than Netkas' 9.2.0 . The wording is odd, though. I guess we'll have to wait and see! EDIT Just got a reply back from eskurza -------------------- Re: iATKOS v2.0i New postby eskurza on 11 May 2008 06:28 pm Speedstep kernel is default.. People with speedstep just select the Speedstep Bundle.. No kernel selection necessary. Netkas kernel on the selection menu is the sleep kernel from Netkas. Cheers. User avatar eskurza Site Admin --------------------------------- If anyone knows whether to remove the thermal kexts or not it would be good to know what are the criteria for deciding whether to remove them? Heat issues killed one laptop so I am inclined to be on the cautious side. Edit: In my case a Turuga patch/Applehda.kext was the problem. The screen went black, the laptop giving the appearance of having shutdown successfully. I wrapped it in a sweater, put that in my daypack. And later smelt something very hot... If you remove the applehda.kext shutdown works but, of course, you loose sound via headphones, etc. EDIT:- this question got answered, too:- ------------- Re: iATKOS v2.0i Postby eskurza on 11 May 2008 06:47 pm Thermal kexts should be removed since they dont work on hacks Laptop users should delete them since on some laptops they cause the cpu to over heat.. I remove them on my setups.. really no need for them.. However We left that as an option for those who want to still have them.. ------------ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/104279-iatkos-v20i-released/#findComment-743126 Share on other sites

iSkylla
hmpft. some people are hit&running on the torrent... I don't know where you people are seeing this, I haven't seen a single person even complete the torrent yet. How can they be hit and running if 95.3 percent of the torrent is only available?
