I'm building a hackintosh desktop on the cheap for music/DVD store and stuff. Will this work pretty much out of the box with Kalyway?

2gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2 $40 off craigslist

GeForce 8500GT $55 craigslist(not gonna be used for gaming just DVD,music, HD video etc)

Core 2 Quad E6600 $200 at Microcenter

WD 320GB HD $70 at Microcenter

I/O Magic DVD burner $30 at Microcenter w/mail in rebate

Thermaltake Xaser V500 case /w500 watt PSU $50 off craiglist

Arctic Cool Freeze 7 CPU cooler $30 at Microcenter(could be had cheaper online but I don't feel like waiting for shipping)

TOTAL: $535

Looks good. Nowadays, it is just a matter of the motherboard that is important. And I think that board is very popular here, you can find guides to get it working. Check the hardware compatibility list for more info: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

You can get any most DVD players for $30. I never heard of I/O Magic DVD burner. I think you should go for a more popular brand.

Build I did for my sister-in-law:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DSL3 - $45 (openbox - ebay)

Intel E2220 - $55 (used - local shop)

GeIL 2x1GB DDR800 - $35 (newegg)

XFX 7600 GT 256 - $41 (used - ebay)

Seagate 500GB sata - $60 (rebate - Frys)

Pioneer DVR-212 sata DVD-RW - $37 (rebate - Frys)

Stock intel cooler - (free from me)

Antec 300 case - $49 (sale Frys)

Samsung 20" widescreen lcd - $189 (sale Frys)

Total - $511.00

Well I built my hackintosh. I got a good deal on Inte E4600 and Asus P5K so I went with that instead of Q6600 since I don't really need all that power right now. I overclocked the cpu to 3.22ghz(400fsbx8) with RAM running at 801mhz with aggressive timings. Everything works great although getting the sound to work was a huge pain and my old power supply blew up so I got a new Thermaltake 430watt for 35bucks. Overall this rig flies and smokes my MacBook Pro. I have a question though, is the Airport Update safe for my Dlink DWA 542, it works like a dream obo and I don't wanna mess it up.
