fishingshrimp
Is there any motherboard out there that supports an add2 pcie addon extension card for dvi output AND fully supports osx86 (i.e. QE/video acceleration, power features i.e. shutdown (doesn't work on my asrock dual board with 915gl chipset)? perhaps even one supporting the new dual core intel cpus? i thought about getting one of these mac mini but the price compared to the performance and hardware does not convince me so i'm still into building my own box. currently it works but performance is not good enough to work with adobe cs2 (i.e. photoshop) - perhaps it works better when using dual core cpu? any ideas on this? regards from germany, fs Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10246-board-with-add2-dvi-card/ Share on other sites
cyrana
Maybe wait until Tuesday and see if they do release the Intel-based Mac Mini? I think most 915G boards support an ADD2-N card, though. Although I think you need to make sure you get one with a Silicon Image controller. One problem is I think they are removing support for older chipsets and graphics cards, so no guarantee any of this will even work on a new system. Best bet for any sort of future proofing is a 945 chipset-based system right now, and even then the ATi video card support (as in working 100% with no artifacts) is a bit iffy (some x1600 or x1800 work I think). Well, i emailed ASROCK regarding their dual boards and they replied that none of their boards supports add2 extension cards. Could so. recommend a motherboard by INTEL? blkblt
ASROCK support told me the same thing, but there's been a few people who told me that the ADD2-N boards actually work fine on their motherboards. I just ordered one, so I'll be able to tell you soon. In fact i just ordered one myself through ebay (UK seller, about 12 euro, thats about 14$, shipping to germany included) because I didn't trust ASROCK on this So either we'll all have working DVI output or 3 dvi cards going back to ebay Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/10246-board-with-add2-dvi-card/#findComment-64074 Share on other sites
