I've got a question for all you fellow OSx86 lovers. Have any of you had luck with an MSI motherboard? I've forgotten which specific model mine is. But I caught a glance on one topic that someone was having trouble with their MSI. Has anyone here had success with it, so I still have some hope?

-Thanks for any help!

I hav installed OSx86 10.4.1 successfully on the following MSI mobos..

MSI RS480M2-IL (Ati x200)

MSI K8N Neo4(Nforce 4)

MSI K8N Neo Platinum(Nforce 4 SLi)

Works great.. As far as i can see, no specific prob. with MSI as such..

I have 10.4.3 running on a 915GM-FR (7033 I think?). Everything funtions well except the via raid ide channel isn't supported, and it won't fully restart(but it shutsdown fine).

Really though, it's not the board manufacturer that matters, it's the chipsets and integrated peripherals that make the difference

MSI 915G-Combo board here and everything works great (even reboot). I haven't bothered to test sleep though. The only reason I'm using the USB sound card is that my board's sound chip is flakey and gives random static once in a while, which was annoying, otherwise it would be working as well.

Hello.

Last night I installed 10.4.3 and although it works, neither of my two onboard NICs were detected, and my sound doesn't work, and my video is stuck at 1024x768@60. But I was just happy that it booted. Now if only I could get the NIC working... that would be sweet.

MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum (NForce 4 SLi) - NIC1 = Marvel Yukon Gigabit, NIC2 = NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller, Onboard Sound = SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit

Athlon64 3500+ (Newcastle)

eVGA 7800GT

2GB of Corsair TwinX RAM

MSI 945GM-FR... no sound, or it's coming out LINE OUT without any ability to perform volume control (I've been too lazy to play around with the output plugs).

Ethernet ok, QE/CI are ok except in 10.4.5 - you need the AppleIntelFramebuffer.kext or some file by a similar name restored from the 10.4.4 extensions backup Maxxuss recommends.

USB no problem... seems I needed to turn off SATA altogether, disable any RAID, and dedicate myself to use the primary IDE channel only. Using the other IDE channel from the motherboard either made my DVD-RW disappear or put it on like the 3rd IDE, which OS X tends to not understand exists. Definitely something unclear as to how you configure this for two IDE busses, primary and secondary, and no SATA. Seems SATA has to be taking the IDE secondary controller address and any additional IDE cable always has to be the tertiary.

OS X has been not completely reliable either - erasing it off my system after performing these copies of data onto FAT32 partitions.

Check out the Audio Midi Setup utility in /Application/Utilities to change sound preferences with more control than System Prefs. It'll let you change the output from line out to headphones or whatever else you audio system supports...

Exactly.

I have this same board, same problems. The IDE RAID (secondary IDE connector/ Tritary IDE in firmware) does not work because it is the VIA 6410 which there are no drivers for.

The SATA by default falls in as the secondary IDE, and that works just fine.

I cloned the 120GB IDE thats Master on the 80 pin IDE to a 250GB SATA drive using CCC and set the boot priority to IDE Channel 2 first, making the SATA1 be first to boot, the computer still booted IDE0. Either because the CCC clone was not blessed or the SATA channel was not recognized by the boot loader.

I can not get the audio to work onboard this one, however. You mention 'everything' works.

I will concur, the shut down works fine, the restart does not. I'm figuring the system call to the hardware is just not the same. The sleep function however does work for me now, with 10.4.5- did not with 10.4.3. It would wake with Finder in a non-usable state.

I added some generic packaged PCI FireWire/USB 2.0 combo card with a 3.5" floppy bay module so that I have Firewire and USB in a floppy bay, thus being front mounted. Works great out of the box. No kext tweaking needed.

This motherboard booted a non-patched 10.4.1 DTK DVD which caught me by surprise. It didn't make it to Finder, but got past the high level boot process, past where the login box would have shown.

I put in a PCI audio card and the audio goes garbled after 30-40 seconds, kinda like how the Audio HiJack demo goes bad on purpose.

Got a MSI 865PE Neo2, everything works - audio, network, usb, firewire, ata, sata. Happy as a clam with this board and my prescott now...

Same here - got a bit of mouse tearing with my Radeon 9600 Pro. But Mousepose seems to have cleared it up. I'm one happy camper! :)
