Hi guys.

I also have the Intel HDA, but in a Toshiba Laptop. I posted a question about it here - in order to avoid double postings, can you see if you maybe have an answer to this?

Thank you,

Bugs.

There's no way the original instructions are correct as they do not make sense.

cp -r /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext /System/Library/Extensions.disabled

achieves nothing other than copying a driver to another directory, it doesn't deactive the drivers in anyway.

You would need to do the following instead:

mkdir /System/Library/Extensions.disabled

mv /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext /System/Library/Extensions.disabled/

Now that I've done this and copied the AppleAzalia.kext driver.

After rebooting now I can see an "HD Audio Output" in the System Preferences which is heaps better than before. As now that there's a default audio device I can plug my USB Logitech headset and I have sound !

Interested to know what you guy did to get some sound out, even at low volume. I tried rebooting under windows as suggested, but it didn't make any difference.

I have a Sony Vaio SZ laptop, the sound card is an Intel High Definition card, and under windows I also see a Sigmatel Codec.

The OP seem to say that the AppleAzalia driver was for a Realtek card.

I'm going to dig this thread up from the grave to add my two cents.

Installed from 10.4.6_JaS DVD.

Four things aren't working:

Audio - but should work once I can get the kext's over.

Ethernet - Isn't working. Seems to be detected and listed as en0, I can change the settings - but nothing happens.

USB - Isn't working, even after rebooting.

Wireless - Intel 3945ABG, I wasn't expecting it to.

Any advice, specifically on the ethernet side of things?

I can get a TM 4202wmli for a good price.

Is it worth getting?

Have any of the problems been fixed?

Is it possible to get a wi-fi card from a TTM2428AWXMI or TM2423 and getting wi-fi working?

Solution to USB might be to get new BIOS - see

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=159408

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=&...st&p=145608

djtrix also had wi-fi problems which he could not solve

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...659&hl=4202

Update: I spoke to Acer tech support and asked him if I can buy the wi-fi card that is in the TM2423/TM2428 laptop and put it into the TM4202 and they guy said that yes you should be able to do the switch. The wi-fi card in the TM2423 supposedly works perfectly. I will go to Acer HQ in Mississauga and see if I can buy one and test.

I installed 10.4.7 on the Acer TravelMate 4202WLMi

BIOS upgraded to 2.1 from the European site

Under options I installed the Intel package + SSE3 + GMA900 support

You have to install the GMA900 even though the computer has GMA950 video

After install before any tweaks - Video is fully functional

QE + CI + Resolution all work.

No need for VGA dongle trick that others have to do

XBench score on raw install = 55.

What did not work out of the box = sound + usb + ethernet + wifi

Sound fixed easily by editting the AppleAzaliaAudio.kext as mentioned earlier in this thread

USB did not work with the original BIOS.

I did not download drivers from Apple website - but I updated the BIOS to v2.1

This fixed the USB issue and USB recognizes external hard drives

BIOS location for v2.1

ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/...lmate_4200/bios

anyone know the difference between European 1.8 and North American 1.3 BIOS is?

Power-meter / Power-Management installed and working

(I don't know how accurate it is - but it shows a bar and time remaining)

Laptop goes to sleep and wakes up!

I have dualboot set up with WinXP in first partition (original installation)

and OSX 10.4.7 in the second then used Hiren's Boot Disk 8.4 to set partitions and to install Bootmanager

Not pretty but fast and it works

Wi-Fi - I will try the following

I can't get the Broadcom 4401-B0 ethernet working.

I have spend a few hours with no luck.

Original install - all I saw was "built-in ethernet" greyed out.

Then I installed older IONetworkingFamily.kext which I received from a member here

This now identifid the ethernet card/port but the LEDs on the port did not light up

and also there was no networking

I have received and installed an older version of IONetworking.kext.

This now "shows" that I have an ethernet car in the system but

the green LED on the ethernet port does not light up and I can't access the network.

I tried changing en0 to en1 but that also did not work.

Further scanning on this site brought me to the I following instructions

1.) Download the IONetworkingFamily.kext.zip file from post #10 of this thread:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;#entry73600

2.) Unpack to a FAT32 drive (e.g. memory stick), rename the .kext in WinXP to something else.

3.) Transfer a copy of your current IONetworkingFamily.kext (in System/Library/Extensions) to the same drive as the downloaded .kext.

4.) Browse within the downloaded .kext file to ...\Contents\PlugIns\... and copy the AppleBCM440xEthernet.kext.

5.) Browse back to the copy of your current IONetworkingFamily.kext to \Contents\PlugIns\, and paste the .kext (within WinXP, .kext files appear as folders), answering yes to all prompts about overwriting objects.

6.) Eject memory stick from WinXP, or transfer the updated IONetworkingFamily.kext back to your MacOSX drive. Put it on the desktop, browse to the System/Library/Extensions on your OSX drive.

7.) Drag updated .kext to replace the current one. You will be prompted to authenticate. Hit yes, type in your password to authenticate.

8.) Launch terminal.app, perform the following commands:

QUOTE

sudo -s

(give password)

cd /System/Library/Extensions

rm Extensions.mkext Extensions.kextcache

(no problem if one or both files don't exist)

chown -R root:wheel *.kext

kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

(exit terminal)

Applications > Disk Utility > select your volume and repair permissions

Quit and reboot.

THEN I turned off the laptop. Unplugged power and batter for 15 seconds. The put everyhing back together and powered up. Now I am connected via ethernet and my XBox Wireless gizmo to my wireless router and Internet - Now to order Atheros based wi-fi card

Update = If I go into WinXP and use the ethernet port and then restart into OSX (dual boot system) the ethernet port is not recognized in OSX. Even if I turn off and then restart - still no go. Only way to see ethernet in OSX is to unplug both main and battery power and then boot into OSX.

Anyone got a solution to this?

Next - I ordered the following PCI-Express wi-fi card -atheros based

http://www-131.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s...686018425101115

I will let you know next week how it works out.

I got the Lenovo Athoros card - installed it and NO GO Windows - See my post in http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...13522&st=40

No go in Windows - I got drivers (after a lot of hunting)

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss...ocid=MIGR-52527

I assume this is the right driver.

IBM does not send drivers with the cards

I tried drivers from Atheros and Ekahua but no luck

The card is seen - but the radio does not turn on.

In OSX I followed Wei Jian's advice in post #57 and 58

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...13522&st=40

I installed the 10.4.5 kext and the Airport became available.

So from a hardware perspective the card does talk to my laptop.

BIOS Hardware Handshake does not appear to be an issue.

Why can't I find the drivers for WindowsXP?

The steps are wrong, they should say something about removing those two kext folders after backing them up. if this doesn't make sense, i can write out the steps more explicitly. i think ego-death has dissapeared of the face of the planet months ago, so i gave up on him updating the first page of this thread.

Has anyone else tried the 10.4.9 combo update that JaS released? It worked flawlessly on my system, however the audio now stutters, stops and crackles when initially playing a sound or switching between apps. The strange thing is that in iTunes this sound problem doesn't exist, iTunes still plays fine... weird eh? I'm not sure if its the Azalia kext that needs updating or the kernel?

In short, it appears that since 10.4.9 the stability of the sound played from my computer has been lost :D

Any help would be greatly appreciated :D
