iPod touch and Downloading(w/o iTunes)

I can't wait to get my hands on a new iPod Touch, but I have some questions around function with the WiFi that some iPhone users out there might be able to answer:

-How does Safari/WiFi work with streaming content? Specifically I like my NPR, and they stream both ra and wma from their web site, can this be done over the iPhone WiFi?

-How about Safari and non-iTunes mp3 downloads(or any other type of file dl)? It would be great if I could download MP3 files from the Web directly to the iPod Touch(or iPhone) and be able to play them. Of course I am only talking about legal downloads.

-Here is the really tricky one - is there some way to use my cell phone to act as a modem for the iPod Touch, so I could get the speed/coverage of my Verizon service to browse the internet from the Touch?(making the whole setup a clunkier but faster iPhone)?

-And an easy one - any way to sync the ipod wirelessly?(I assume no...)

All of this stuff seems like it is doable, it's just a question of whether everything comes set up to do it, or someone has to hack it out. If it can do this stuff out of the box, Christmas comes on Sept 28 for me this year!

I have the same questions as you have except for the modem thing but:

If this would be possible Apple would have told us about it because it is important and usefull.

Maybe when they release new firmware for the iPod Touch they include this function!!! Hopefully

ipod touch seems to have bluettoth, even if it's not mentioned

The real question is "What can we sync" ?

Maybe not itunes library, but I guess, things like safari bookmarks or adress book, as you already can do it with ipod rev3 or maybe even sooner.

All the rest is technically possible, maybe in a late software update...

If your phone has wifi, like the samsung I had and that I've loved, there's no problem...

iPod touch does NOT have bluetooth.. just Wi-fi hello people it's not an iPhone it's a different product that just has the same touch feature as the iPhone....

Hello hello !

what's that little icon in the upper right corner ? Looks like the bluetooth.

But hey, it could be a mistake, as I guess those pictures are 3D rendered.

Actually I have read that folks from Apple say the software/OS on the Touch is more or less EXACTLY the same as the Phone, so there is every reason to believe you could squeeze additional function out of it. The only things really missing are the phone and the ability to log on to the net without WiFi, so there is every reason to believe you could make it work with your cell phone to more or less get the same function(even if it may be a little inelegant).

I am not interested in using it as a phone(or having to sign up for AT&T's snailnet), but on occasion I would love to have net access not tied to my ability to find free Wifi(and to be through the Verizon network). And my cell phone is capable of being used as a modem, and can inteface with the Touch through USB if nothing else. So you have all of the elements to make it possible. It's just a matter of whether the interest and ability to figure it out are there.

The ability to dl files though still is the thing I like the sound of best. I do this frequently when traveling(get radio shows etc on my laptop & transfer to my ipod), and it would be great to do all of that with one device(using WiFi from the hotel). I'll have to see if the iPhone will do this the next time I am in the Apple Store...
