Trying to get El Capitan Working with GA-Z97N-WIFI & G3258K

Hi all,

I'm on a quest to install El Capitan on my little itx build but its being trouble some. It has a Gigabyte Z97n-WIFI motherboard and an Intel Pentium G3258K AE CPU. The graphics card is a PNY GT 730, you can see pretty much the full list of components on the link below. I swap my Windows drive for the asus optical drive which is hanging out the case which is why it says there are compatibility issues incase you are wondering.

Now so far I have run snow leopard on this set up using a DVD bootloader because I haven't found a bootloader that works with snow leopard and this hardware. Anyway I am on a quest to get El Capitan running and its not liking the CPU so far. I gave the Yosemite install style (found here http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/303755-how-to-intel-pentium-g3xxx-and-celeron-g1xxx-haswell-works-with-speedstep-yosemite-1010-and-mavericks-109/)a try with no luck.

I made the bootable USB with clover and I get a freeze with CPU Thread 0 Panic and also a AppleCPUpowerManagement error after trying a fakecpuid.

I have tried adding different kext like nullCPUpowerManagement, fakesmc, etc in different locations, removing folders, etc many times. With no luck. However I am thinking that clover is not taking some of the boot arguments and kexts I have added to it. So I have a couple questions.

First when trying to make the USB by createinstallmedia terminal commands I am now getting error's related to the data not being in the right place, i.e. not found. Maybe this has something to do with the fact that I have downloaded El Captain 4-5 times since I installed 10.6 again? I'm not sure.

Now correct me if I am wrong but the nullCPU power mgmt kext is supposed to make it boot WITHOUT using the apple power mgmt at all, is it not? So I am not sure why I would still be getting errors for this unless it didn't take the nullCPU kext. I have tried it by just adding the kext, by running clover with space bar what I assume should be using injected kext even though that option doesn't seem to be there in the latest clover, by using boot arg nullCPU power management, dev_mode_1, CPUs 1, the SIP disable command, etc. And no luck. Have tried by using the pre-installed options at the bootloader menu and without.

So now what I am wonder is how can I verify that clover is indeed launching with the options I am choosing?

This is my last attempt here and it seems as if the CPUid and PowerMGMT may have caused a problem. The CPU id is for the i3 used in the yosemite guide I believe. IIRC it is x0306A0 or something like that.

Any idea's here, I am stuck at this point.

On a side note any recommendations for an LGA 1150 CPU that I could swap with the G3258. I would like to keep the G3258 as I think it is an awesome CPU but it looks like its going to be a major challenge to get it working correctly. Also I wouldn't be looking to spend $2-300 on a different CPU so this is a little tricky.

Ok sorry. I was just trying to explain whats up with my system.

try with nv_disable=1

Okay i'll give it a go. I'm going to kind of wipe out most of what I have right now so I can have a clean slate to go forward on. And then i'll log everything I do in the order I do it here.

hello

if u persist boot snow

u need a patched kernel for that

ur cpu is incompatible for all os x versions .. need to use clover and fake ur cpu ..

but in snow .. u start bad .. never work with ur cpu .. unless u use a patched kernel like for amd cpu..

for another try .. get a good read here

and try not stress .. what u have is a bad choice of hardware in ur rig

good hack

Is it all really that bad? When I originally grabbed all the stuff I had hackintosh building in mind and I found people saying the z97n-wifi was a good board for that? However this was a long time ago probably right before yosemite came out so things have changed. As well as my situation, I have a lot of mac's but I buy them for dirt cheap broken and diagnose and fix them up. Anyway currently the only running ones I have are on 10.6 and 10.5.

The CPU isn't proper but I wanted the G3258 because it overclocks pretty darn well. Base at 3.2ghz, I had it up at 4.4 ghz on the stock intel cooler with temps maxing out at only ~70-75 C when doing stress tests with AIDA64. Pretty beastly for little old pentium. Anyway what I was thinking was that with the LGA1150 socket if I needed to swap out the CPU I could but the rest should generally be compatible.

Again a lot of this hardware can change. I had two PC's I built one was an HTPC where most of the stuff I migrated to the current case for the hackintosh build. The HTPC is going to be used when I find some spare pennys to build it up to use as a diagnostic work machine. So what I can do, and if I was rich I would have done already, is build that up and make the build more hackintosh friendly.  I would hope to keep the gigabyte motherboard as it was too expensive for what I would need on the diagnostic machine but if its most friendly to move up to 1151 or something I can do that aswell.

And yes that is a good thread although it may be a little dated for el capitan, i'm really not sure but seeing that its was made for yosemite im not sure if it need further tweaking. However following that guide originally as stated in the OP I got it to boot the farthest to date  in -v before getting demos. Currently i'm trying to figure out the whole clover deal with the disappearing EFI partition.
