I have PM'd you one final DSDT file to try.......

thanks verdant for your help and dsdts, i was just trying different usb settings, legacy doesnt seem to make any difference on/off. I will keep playing with this system. I may try a reinstall with a more vanilla install, either way i'll report any findings.

verdant,

Ok it's pretty much as unstable as ever.  I've tried everything you have suggested to no avail.  (All of which are greatly appreciated.)  Can you tell me where I should be looking in the logs to see why it crashed?  Or I could send you the log files if you would like to take a look.  If so, please tell me what file(s) and where they are located.

Thanks again.

Go Applications, select Utilities, and then double-click on Console.app.........all the logs are available there......

Alternatively, select Go to Folder from the Finder’s Go menu and type in:

"User Home Folder"/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/

"User Home Folder"/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/

To make the Library folder permanently visible, type in Terminal:

chflags nohidden "User Home Folder"/Library

where is "User Home Folder" is replaced by your username……

I am aware of the console app. I just don't know where to look to see what is causing it to crash.

I PM'd you a log file.

I will look at the log when i have some free time.....

I have looked at the Diagnostic Report........it looks similar to others I have seen reported in Apple Discussions.....

So, I suggest you boot in Safe Mode (-x) and use Disk Utility to repair permissions, and then check your system stability in Safe Mode.........

@ verdant

Hello, I used your guide and had a working system (THANK U!), well.. except graphics card (low res). I had a Nvidia Geforce 6600, which i replaced with GeForce210, which is supposed to work OOB. Unfortunatelly i get Kernel panic since then (a lot...) with diferent kexts in backtrace everytime. I tried almost everything (repeair permissions, rebuild kextcache, pciroot=1 and npci=0x2000 in chameleon to no avail. I have same MOBO as you are (with 4GB ram)  and i was wantering if you could post your patched DSDT and org.ChameleonBoot.plist for me to try and post back. Thank you very much!

Glad my guide helped you set up a working system...... :)

It would be useful to see your system details in your signature.

I will PM you them as soon as I have the time to do so in a day or so.....

Ok, I am back to say that after repatching DSDT and reinstalling kexts from "Essentials.pkg" system is UP!

I used "GraphicsEnabler=Yes" and GFX Card worked OOB. I additionally extracted all SSDT tables (SSDT.aml, SSDT-2.aml..., SSDT-4.aml), put it in /Extra and disabled all "Generate PStates - CStates etc, enabled DropSSDT in org.Chameleon.Boot.plist.

That thing only eliminated a lot of warnings at startup but did not enable sleep or shutdown (@verdant -> Does your Hacintosh shutdown properly? aka without having to push the power button for > 4 sec after CPU Halt?).

Additionally, I patched DSDT with my GFX and onboard HDA (HDMI via GFX card) with help of verdant (Thanks again). It worked without "GraphicsEnabler=Yes" (Hurray!!) but no HDMI audio showed up in System Info and I had to wait on login for 5 minutes before keyboard and mouse got responsive (!).

@verdant -> Do you also have that 5 minute lag at login window? If you solved this and the other problem with shutdown, please tell me how.

Thanks again.

PS: I updated my signature with my hardware specs.

nForce chipset MOBOs do not sleep properly.......see here

However, my MOBO boots and shuts down properly without having to push the power button for > 4 sec after CPU Halt.....

Check your BIOS settings against my 650i template

Attached File  Pre_Series7_nForce_Chipset_BIOS_SettingsV2.pdf   63.52KB   5 downloads

for:

ACPI Suspend Type [S3 (STR)]
ACPI APIC Support [Enabled]

I do not get a 5 minute lag at login but with ML 10.8 I find there is some delay......

BTW it takes about 90 seconds to boot to the Desktop.

I am running with the 0803 BIOS as it allows my Q6600 G0 to overclock. I do not recall having to do anything with SSDT tables to get a working DSDT and power management setup.......generating PStates and CStates via Chameleon worked just fine for me......

My GeForce 9800GT gives no HDMI output that I can access even with my patched DSDT.aml file......I simply use DVI with separate audio....

Ok thank you verdant. I will see  to it and post back. in the meantime for some reason unknown to me, computer now shutdowns Ok (did not change bios settings yet).

Anyway. Sleep is my next target and hdmi audio from gfx card is also in my todo list. All other "systems apear nominal" hehe :).

@ verdant -> 1. As I saw in the forum post you redirected me, sleep with fans on is possible. I will try that and post back.

                     2. As super-lazy as any decent programmer oughts to be... I created a small script to simplify the creation of usb installation medium

of Mountain Lion on an MBR partitioned PC disk. The whole process takes aproximatelly 3 minutes! I attach it below for other people to

use. If you like it, update your first post by adding my script.

For those interested, I suggest that you read the script's notes VERY CAREFULLY before attempting the automated process (Total loss of data due to partitioning new installation medium, is possible).

Here it comes:

#!/bin/bash
#
# Script to prepare a usb installation medium for Mountain Lion (creates installation medium for installing OSX on MBR PC Drive)
# Works for Nvidia GFX Cards, but can be adopted to AMD easily (look at line 44).
# Created by mitsos345, Credits to verdant@insanelymac forums
#
# Instructions:
# 1. Download "verdant_Mountain_LIon_Support_Files_v1.zip"
# ,"2815-OSInstall(MBR)+OSInstall.zip"
# (http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=112601) and
# Mountain Lion Installation app from appStore Manually (sorry about that),
# and put them in your desired working directory (which you must specify in variables section below).
#
# 2. Use Pacifist to extract /S/L/E Graphics kexts for your system (look verdant's guide) and put them in a folder named "Essentials"
# inside working directory.
#
# 3. Put your Extra folder (with DSDT, kexts, smbios etc, from previous installation - if you do not have, well look verdant's guide :P)
# in a folder named "backup" inside working directory.
#
# 4. Change global variables below to match your system
#
# 5. Run script and enjoy!!! (Comments are welcome)
#
# WARNING: At the time you run this script you must have only one usb drive attached (or disk in general, apart from the disk of your System)...

You need to confirm this first but I believe that your MOBO audio chipset/codec is the Realtek ALC888S and your MOBO LAN chipset is the Realtek RTL8211BL........

Hi. I posted the following question in the OSx86 10.8 (Mountain Lion) section of the forums asking about how I could go about migrating an existing OS X 10.8 virtualbox installation to the actual physical computer and was directed to this very intricate, complete and pretty clear tutorial:

http://www.insanelym...uter/?p=1973180

At the present, I'm only trying to see if I can manage to get the installation disk to boot successfully in the actual computer to make sure that running the full system is possible.  I'm thinking of trying to install one of the injection kexts to see if that enables my drive to be seen by the OS but I can't seem to be able to download Mountain Lion support files from the sendspace link because the link seems to be broken.  Can someone direct me as to how I can download the support files?  Thanks.

Sorry, I expected an automatic link and had not signed in to be able to get the download.  Thanks.

Edit: Actually, I think I was clicking on the many "Download" buttons which kept sending me to download the "Torch" browser.  I finally got the zip file.  Thanks.

This guide seems to be unorganized and all over the place which makes it really hard to follow. Is there another place I could find simplified step by step instructions for nforce mother boards?

I don't see where it is unorganized.  There are many steps involved and it depends on your needs as to which way to go.  The only way to not have to jump around is if he kept repeating the same instructions that apply in many different scenarios.  Or he could have tailored it to only 1 option for installation which would leave a lot of people out as it would not apply to them.  There is no easy way to get OSX running on an nVidia chipset since it is not natively supported in Mac OS.  (All real Macs run on Intel chipsets.)  I followed the guide and got it up and running on my machine.  Also, Verdant is very helpful.  :)

Here is where I am seeing it as unorganized: The post starts of with this :Post #1 - How to Prepare for Installing OS X Mountain Lion on a HDD

Introduction

Download Links

Acknowledgements

Methods for [1] Enabling the download of OS X Mountain Lion from the Apple App Store and [2] Making a USB Flash Drive Installer for OS X Mountain Lion 10.8:

Part A. Enabling Snow Leopard running in 64bit mode or Lion running in default 64bit mode on an nForce MOBO for purchasing and downloading OS X Mountain Lion from the Apple App Store

Part B. Making a Bootable GPT Partitioned USB Flash Drive OS X Lion 10.8 Installer

Nothing there is a link. It is laid out to look like you should click on the sentenses but they are not linked to anything. Usually bold blue sentences mean if you click it you will be sent to another page.  What exacly am I suppose to be following?

IF you continue reading you end up at a section called post 2 which is formatted the same way as post 1

I never seen within the whole posting where the instructions were.  Also you see "download links" is in bold blue even thought it is not a link.

Again I have no Idea where the instructions are within this post.
