[Solved]Weird Black screen issue[Solved]

I am fairly new to Hackintoshing and am eager to Hackintosh my PC(I want to run OS X Lion on this machine). Specifications of my PC are as follows:

1. ASUS P5KPL-AM/PS Motherboard

2. 4GB Ram

3. Intel Core 2 Duo processor

4. 1GB ASUS NVidia 210 Silent DDR3 Graphics Card

5. 160GB HDD Hitachi maybe.

 

Basically I used the .dmg of OS X Snow Leopard Retail disk and made a bootable external hard disk which I ran along with I Boot. I have no AHCI mode in my BIOS Settings. At first everything seemed fine, I was able to see three options after I Boot loads: I Boot, Mac OS X Install DVD and Windows NTFS(As the windows has been already installed). I selected the Mac OS X Install DVD and tried to boot both normally as well as in verbose mode. In normal boot I saw a grey Apple logo screen with a loading disk which was Accompanied by a Blank Black screen and nothing happened after that..I tried waiting for atleast 15-20 minutes. While, In the verbose mode I could see a lot of code running through the screen which was again, accompanied by the same Black screen. I could not even start with installation which is very strange. Also I could post all the code that was running through my screen in verbose mode but I don't know how to record it or take a screenshot of it, I may type out the whole thing if required.

I am pretty stuck at the moment and any help would be really appreciated. Can't want to see this PC running OS X.

Cerastez, I tried entering graphicsenabler=no in the I Boot, All I got was a kernel Panic. :/

Dude, You are a Genius, I must say! It worked finally :-)

I'm finally running Snow Leopard 10.6, So, the first step was successful. Now the problem is that I cannot connect to my Internet(Wifi) which is essential for updates(I want Lion 10.7.2 atleast), Gfx card support isnt there yet and the sound isn't working. I guess most important issue at present is Wifi, Other two problems can be solved after updating to Lion I guess..

Unable to boot Snow Leopard Now

I manually downloaded and installed MacOSXUpdCombo10.6.8.dmg to update Snow leopard from 10.6 to 10.6.8 along with the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] tool. In the [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] tool, I selected easy DSDT and system utilities. After the installation was finished I rebooted the computer and came across an I-Boot like boot loader with Mac OS X and Windows NTFS as options. On selecting Mac, A silver Apple logo appeared and then a Black screen(the point where I got stuck).

I have tried booting with graphicsenabler=no and -x(Safe mode), But none of them worked. Graphicsenabler=no brought the same black screen while -x got me stuck at the Apple logo screen.

The lesson is to go slow, don't try to do too many things at one time because then you don't know what fouls things up.

 

Upgrading a hackintosh is tricky because you have to add kexts to make it work. Then when you run an updater, it wipes out those added kexts and breaks your machine. On top of that, lots of people have problems upgrading to 10.6.8. They often have to update to 10.6.7 and then save all of their kexts, update to 10.6.8 and then reinstall some of the 10.6.7 kexts to get things working again.

 

I would start over with ModCD and 10.6 and then take things slowly.

 

Also, the Windows System information does not show the wireless. When you get running with 10.6, could you download and run the Mac version of the program I indicated?

I'm so sorry, was a bit too busy in the last couple of days. Umm fine, I borrowed retail 10.6.3 .dmg from a friend and installed it to start over all again. I tried running that system information program on Snow Leopard but I couldn't screen shot it.(I don't know, the copy paste and the screenshot doesn't seem to work..All I get is a white screen :/)

Is there any other way out?

Anyways, I'm using this: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=334 to run Wifi on my PC at the moment(I know its a bit too old, but still).

That is a USB plugin type of Wifi adapter. Generally, the only way to get it to work is to use drivers supplied by the manufacturer. For that one, I only see Windows drivers, no OSX drivers. Sometimes drivers from other manufacturers can be used if you can figure out what is inside the adapter and which manufacturers use the same chips AND which ones provide OSX drivers.

 

To take a screen shot of a section of the Desktop, simultaneously press the 3 keys: Alt-Shift-4

 

A cross-hair will show up as the cursor. Draw a box around what you want to take a snapshot and when you release the mouse button, a file will appear on the Desktop.

10.6.3 is now working somehow(only with Nawcomm's disk, not even with Chameleon bootloader). I managed to get my wireless work with the help of some old drivers compatible with tiger and leopard, working flawlessly so far!

Screenshots aren't working due to some reason which I don't know(Tried . So, what should be the next step? Update to 10.6.7 or 10.6.8? Or should I get the sound and Gfx card working first?

Ultimately, I want a fully working Hackintosh OS X Lion.

 

EDIT: Sound works! Tried playing a track in iTunes this time. :-)

One of the first steps we did was turn off your video drivers so that you wouldn't get that "wierd black screen issue". This is probably what is causing the screenshots to not work.

 

If you are heading for Lion, the method to get there is not to keep updating Snow Leopard, but to jump straight to Lion. It is good that you have a working version of 10.6.3 because you need a working OSX installation in order to set up for the Lion installation.

That particular guide does not need 10.6.8. It just requires a working OSX installation to prepare the Lion installation. You aren't really upgrading Snow Leopard. You are doing a fresh installation of Lion.

I'm almost ready to start with the Lion guide you've mentioned above. I just have a couple of questions:

1. Can I use the latest versions of Chameleon(which supports mountain Lion as well) instead of the one that is there in the thread?

2. Are the kexts attached at the end of that thread meant to be copied to extras folder or simply installed via kext utility or something?

First I tried installing simply by booting from Chameleon Bootloader and got this:

The 2nd one, Nawcom's ModCD does not support Lion, only Snow Leopard.

 

The 1st one I assume was from using the USB flash drive that you created. Did you install the files Extra_Lion_DP4.pkg.zip onto the USB flash drive?

 

Try booting with -v -x npci=0x2000 arch=i386

 

If that doesn't work, try booting with -v -x npci=0x3000 arch=i386

 

The files at the end in the "Post Installation" section we can discuss when you get Lion installed.

 

Using one of the newest Chameleon 2.1 SVN packages should be acceptable, but install it as the last item to the flash drive.

Tried booting with: -v -x npci=0x2000 arch=i386 as well as -v -x npci=0x3000 arch=i386. Installer seemed fine except the fact that mouse wasn't working. This wasn't an issue till I reached the point where it asked to me format the HD with GUID partition with disk uitility. Disk utility comes under the Utilities drop down menu which requires cursor to reach. How do I solve this?

Is the mouse USB or PS/2?

The mouse is PS/2. Both the boot flags you suggested worked surprisingly.

OK, it appears you need a PS/2 driver on your flash drive. I hope you still have your Snow Leopard installation that you can use. Plug your flash drive into the Snow Leopard installation.

 

Download this PS/2 zip file. Put it on the Snow Leopard Desktop. Unzip it by double-clicking it. Run the installation package by double-clicking it. Make sure to point it to install on your flash drive and not into Snow Leopard.

 

Then boot the flash drive again -v -x npci=0x2000 arch=i386

I doubt that this will help, but try booting -v npci=0x2000 arch=i386

 

Otherwise, you're going to need to find someone from whom you can borrow a USB mouse for the installation. You might need to borrow a USB keyboard if you don't have one. This is not uncommon.
