Greetings,

Included as an attatchment in this topic is my Post-Install-Patch v1.0.2 which will allow you to fix

the reboot stall some users are experiencing. This problem results in your system either hanging/stalling

when selecting restart from the apple menu. You may or may not also get the grey apple spinwheel.

To fix your system simply download attatched DMG, Mount, and launch MPIP102. This patch

will automatically fix your system. Please restart your system after using.

++ Read the README and print if required prior to running this patch.

++ Restore instructions in README file if this does not fix your problem.

MD5 Sum: 465cc079f2b892909cbd1678e853ed54 MPIP102-Reboot.Stall.Fix.dmg

Regards,

PS I would greatly appreciate if this could be made a sticky.

The forum software appends a ".zip" to the download. The file is not zipped, it is a .dmg.

Simply Rename and Remove the ".zip" from the file name. Leave the ".dmg"

MPIP102_Reboot.Stall.Fix.dmg

i do not recommend this patch, it seems to be severely flawed and will kill your kernel.

The recovery instructions included do not work as the system is unable to boot in single user mode.

however, i was able to recover the system by booting the backup kernel at the Darwin bootloader, simply issue "mach_kernel.102" or whatever you named your backup.

Hi there!

Great idea, but, sorry to tell you that it killed my system also. I had to use my DVD to get it back.

Maybe because I'm AMD. I don't know, but tks anyway.

Hi,

it seems to have killed my thing aswell

however, i was able to recover the system by booting the backup kernel at the Darwin bootloader, simply issue "mach_kernel.102"

this worked for me so now i can boot into os x fine

is there anyway to fix the issue though?

like my system just reboots itself everytime after the darwin 10sec countdown unless i do the mach_kernel.102 command to boot into that backup, so is there a way i can restore the backup?

thanks

can someone please help me recover my system!?!? The patch messed up and when I try and boot into osx it crashes soon after the grey screen.... when i try and boot with -s it imediately crashes.... the same thing happens when trying to boot off of the install disc. I also tried typing mach_kernal.102 at darwin but this does nothing... can anyone help!?? I had (nearly) everything set up perfectly and would rather not go through that again.. thanks!

Did the same thing to me.

I had to reinstall everything from scratch.

DONT RUN THIS PATCH....

Well, I feel stupid... the reason I couldn't just type and load the kernel backup was because I was mispelling it.... anywho, I'm now running my backup kernel, but unfortunately Shut Down causes the same error as reboot now (didn't before) so I have to do a hard power off each time.. not necessarily a good thing for my computer, any ideas?

killed my system too (JAS 10.4.8, Dell E1705 Core Duo). I had to reboot, type in the backup kernel at the boot prompt (mach_kernel.102). Once booted, run the following commands from the root directory:

sudo -s

rm mach_kernel

cp mach_kernel.102 mach_kernel

chown root:wheel mach_kernel

chmod 644 mach_kernel

then reboot...

for whatever reason my broadcom 440 quit working with this too. I had to reinstall it again based on thread #41663. don't know if that was related or not.

Ok definitely not going to install this now...

What kind of machine is everyone running?

I'm on a Tyan K8WE S2895 dual Opteron/NForce4 ASUS X1900XTX

I only get the reboot problem when I have USB enabled.

If I use PS2 mice/keyboard no reboot problems. (And no USB support... strange)
