Hello guys

I m trying to upgrade my 100% working SL 10.6.8 to the last Lion GM, the suppose .app final version.

After running the installer (take +/- 3 m) system make an auto-restart. After restart nothing new happen, my system restart as SL 10.6.8.

There is any guide to upgrade using this new Lion GM app ?

Note: dont want fresh install, i want upgrade. I found some guides to make the partition or usb with Lion installation form this .app file. this method can make upgrade of my SL?

Thanks

Ok i found the answer

My spec

Intel Core i7 950@3.2Ghz · Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Rev 2.0 BIOS:FF · XFX HD-687A-ZDBC Radeon HD 6870 aka Dual Fan Black Edition (OC) · 6GB (2x3) DDR3 Corsair 1600MHz · SONY Optiarc DVD RW AD-5260S. Home made BT with original bt module.

1º follow this guide http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=260594

very well made with lot of ss step by step, thanks to Still Win Fan.

2º Used my original extra folder, and copied to lion installation partition. Had to remove NullCPUPowerManagement.kext and SleepEnabler.kext <-the new version 10.6.8 don't work with lion. I have good dsdt from SL.

3º After booting with installation partition, and after installation starts, if you choose the partition with SL 10.6.8, it inform you that all your accounts , files, programs, etc... will stay untouched. So this is the upgrade i was looking for (the strange thing was the other partition with SL 10.6.7, this menage about upgrade don't appear)

4º After restart had problems with my old extra folder, had to boot with other backup and delete NullCPUPowerManagement.kext and SleepEnabler.kext from my Lion Extra folder. After that all reboot perfect.

5º installed chimera and sound from last [url="http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/279450-why-insanelymac-does-not-support-tonymacx86/"]#####[/url] 3.7.3, edited my IONetworkingFamily.kext to add my pci ethernet card id.

All perfect, i successful upgraded my SL 10.6.8 to Lion GM :)

Cheers

Because you have to have 10.6.8 installed to upgrade. :)

I'm attempting to do this but Lion refuses to install on the existing 10.6.8 partition with a "Mac OS X cannot start from this disk"

well, since you wrote you were able to upgrade from 10.6.8 to 10.7 I went ahead and tried it myself using the guide that's on sticky in this forum.

And for my surprise it all went well. I didn't even had to do these additional steps in your guide. No error during the install and I could boot straight into 10.7 with the very same extra folder and additional kexts I was using with 10.6.8. Awesome!

(of course my chameleon was already updated to a lion compatible version. And I have a proper DSDT for my motherboard which is asus p5k premium)

Thanks for the great tutorial! It really helped me solving a long lasting problem since 10.6.8. My dual 480 gtx couldn't be properly setup to work on 10.6.8 for the past week...your post on Lion saved my long day and nights.;)

One question, we have the same motherboard, I am just curious if your setup have any sleep problems? Mine goes to sleep but immediately wake up and goes to a state where the HDD is spinning but the screen is off. Could you shed some insights there?

Thanks

Sry for the late, being out all week :D

ok

Yes i had sleep problems

look here

now its perfect, sleep/wake good and no cmos reset

Note: your symptoms are strange, never had that. How was your sleep with 10.6.8?

Gz :D

just one thing, my errors on installation were because of NullCPUPowerManagement.kext and SleepEnabler.kext , they are very important on this board if you want OC. Right now need to wait for lion update of this kext's.

With only "basic" kext on Extra folder all works out of the box :D (i dont use Lan on board, the performance are horrible, so i bought 1 pci card with the same intel chip that apple use on original mac cards. with a litle editing, it works perfect and perform fast has hell)

ssds,

Thanks for the reply. I actually came across the same thread yesterday and by applying the same script you recommended above the sleep issue I had got fixed. :) To save other ppl some searching around here is the script by tseug :

copy and paste the command in to Terminal, but the command needs to be preceded by sudo:

CODE

sudo perl -pi -e 's|\x8b\x45\xc8\x39\x45\xcc\x74\x0b|\x8b\x45\xc8\x39\x45\xcc\xeb\x0b|; s|\x8b\x45\xb4\x39\x45\xb8\x74\x08|\x8b\x45\xb4\x39\x45\xb8\xeb\x08|' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleRTC.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleRTC

Also, I am having issues with Mac App Store. I tried multiple solution by deleting the interface.plist and EthernetBuiltIn = Yes. Neither of this would solve this problem. I heard ppl were saying that I might need to use PCIRootUID=1. Do you happen to have the same issue??

Again thanks!!
