JackBook Pro
This link is broken in the OP: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=235523. What was the gist of it? themacmeister
androdev, you are superb! It appears that the three 'untested' items all work perfectly with the correct kexts and .plist edits (available on osx86.net) I was interested to see that Centrino Wireless-n 1000 & 1030 are both working under Linux, with non-free firmwares available (and auto-loaded). Check my post here -> http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=52983&start=0 thanks for the great guide. My Core i7 N5110 arrives in 8 days... can't...wait...that...long... :-)
themacmeister
I can install 10.6.3, and using "######", I can boot 10.6.3, but I cannot find a working bootloader. 10.6.8 Combo Update fails instantly when I press install button, with an unknown error (after using Update Helper and rebooting). "######" has errors regarding versions of IOPCIxxxx already loaded version 2.6.5. I must assume everyone is using the stock kernel, as there has been no talk of a legacy kernel anywhere? I probably need a guide on editing the EFI partition, as I have no Extra folder! Any help appreciated
themacmeister
I do not get the IOPCIFamily errors with ###### Legacy (unsure of which version) -- this may work better for me -- testing install to USB now!
Axegrinder
Copy this to the boot.plist <key>device-properties</key> <string>600000000100000001000000540000000100000002010c00d041030a000000000101060000027fff04001e00 00004100410050004c002c006f0073002d0069006e0066006f0000001800000030490111111108000001f01f01000000 10070000</string> Does this mean that with this string the NVidia card (GT 525M) would be recognized and initialized instead of Intel 3000 Graphics? If so, that's a major advantage of 10.6.8 over 10.7.x since as of now there is no solution to get GT 525M to work on Lion. Please clarify!!! Thanks in advance! themacmeister
Hi all. I cannot thank you enough for this guide, and associated files. I am typing this from my N5110 Core i7, under OS X 10.6.8, using wireless N USB adaptor. This guide did not work for me at all, and I have issues with the USB3.0 ports (x2) not waking from sleep. Apart from that, and the lack of (disableable) touchpad support, and a couple of FN Keys mixed up, the computer is running tip-top! Full sleep, including lid-shut, lid-open wake. Does anyone have a collection of kexts that will work with okTrackpad.PrefPane? It does not seem to function with VoodooPS2Controller/Trackpad. For some reason there are random kernel panics under 64bit, so I am forcing 32bit at the moment. Fan seems to be working correctly, and P & C states seem to be functioning properly (if a bit abruptly). Would I be correct in assuming that HDMI video out is an impossibility under OSX, as it is directly connected to the NVIDIA discrete 525m? Here is my method if anyone is interested: Installed OSX 10.6.3 Retail to USB HDD on Dell Inspiron 580. boot using iiiboot llegacy Updated using 10.6.7 Combo Update. reboot using IBL Installed 10.6.8 Combo Update with Pacifist 2.6.4 demo -- took forever, but worked! Boot Retail 10.6.3 using IBL on N5110, with USB HDD attached Restore USB onto freshly formatted HFS+ Extended GUID N5110 HDD. DO NOT RESTART!!! Using USB HDD, decompress and copy required dsdt.aml, org.chameleon.Boot.plist, legacy_kernel + all extra kexts etc. using Terminal. Repair permissions using Disk Utility. I used the dsdt for Intel+OtherWiFi.zip, included with 3 others. Pretty sure I got it from here :-) Restart with IBL off N5110 HDD. Run ######, and install extra kexts (all with arch=i386). Edit org.chameleon... with arch=i386, GenerateCStates, GeneratePStates etc. install latest Chimera. DONE!! This laptop is UberAwesome now -- only a couple of tweaks, and it will be perfect! PS. You MUST use a MacBookPro 8,1 smbios if you have an unsupported NVIDIA card + Intel HD Graphics. 8,2 and 8,3 are both AMD Radeon!!!

pclinuxmac
I truly appreciate all the posts above me, however... Can someone please post a full and new/updated post on actually getting SL installed? And I mean an updated one that includes all the revised kext files, downloads, etc. I really like the first post in this thread, something similar to that or even better, a video showing us how to do it! A video would be great, but a new and revised updated post will suffice as well! Thanks, John Locke
