Best to not update via Software Updater. You can disable it via System Preferences > Software Update, uncheck (if its checked) download updates automatically) then "check for updates".

Ok. But u gave some time earlier the recommendation to update onto the newest safari beta as it is more stable concerning flash.

However it tells me when i try to install it i need at least 10.7.3 (currently on 10.7.2)

Is there any problems with that? Or is it simply "installing combo update, run next wizard, restart, install safari beta" without any further actions to be taken?

Cheers :)

You can find the standalone .dmg file for Safari on the internet, you can just use the software update for anything except the main OS but i've read on some threads people messed their systems up so... better to be safe than sorry.

Combo update > reinstall patched AppleINtelCPUPOwerManagement.kext (for the version you've just updated), AppleHDA.kext, IOAUDIOFamily.kext... and i guess thats all.

I've finished with my exams, i'll resume work this week on the Nvidia GPU and boot cd/installer packages.

So we might have Nvidia graphics by the end of the week then! :wink2:

Seriously though, I was gonna buy a new retina macbook pro, until I read that you can't upgrade the ram or harddrive after you've purchased the system! Thats £1700 apple have just lost from me as I'll be sticking with my Dell XPS 15 with 1920x1080 screen for a while now, even if we only have Intel HD3000 graphics. Over the last year I've upgraded the ram and changed the harddrive to an 500gb SSD drive! How many people will Apple annoy who purchases an 8gb ram Macbook Pro, only to wish they got a 16gb ram version the 512gb harddrive version a year down the line! Damn you Apple!

As much as i like Apple's OS, i'm not exactly fond of their hardware and since laptop designs got even thinner and more beautiful than before, i can say i'm not a fan of their hardware at all anymore.

http://9to5mac.com/2012/07/09/apple-pushes-mountain-lion-gm/ just in time, my current installation went haywire.

About the NGPU, atm it's third on my list, after the installer packages suite and boot cd/stick. When i'm done with them i'll see if i can "crack" the code.

Funny :D i just replied to you on the other thread. You don't necessarily need the EDID from another system. You just need your own (take it from windows to be sure it's accurate) then inject it via EFI String and the method JKBuha described.

For the efi string, just reply with the edid, i'll make you a string.

Update: Lx02XLion_V1.2 https://dl.dropbox.com/u/16173714/Lx02XLion_V1.2.zip

Changelog-V1.2:

- added VoodooHDA 2.7.3 for XPS 13

- fixed "switch kexts" bug in installer. (dammit, not again!)

When using it in the method described by micky, the problem stays the same (sick!) - i got exactly the same symptoms like

JKBuha:

- System hangs and crashes when for example switching applications

- everything is working when rotation the display

Add that code in your boot.plist file under "device-properties". If you don't have it, create it yourself like this.

<key>device-properties</key>
<string>PASTE STRING HERE</string>

Careful not to paste extra characters or spaces.

I have to leave again, i'll help you when i return in an hour or so, please don't hesitate to reply if you have any problems or question marks.

Sadly, this didn't change anything.

Any ideas?

It's corrupted... re-save and use the "More Reply Options" button to enter the full interface where you can upload. Make it an archive, i'm not sure .ioreg can be uploaded directly.

What the {censored}? I saved it again multiple times but cannot even open it directly on my own system?!?

Edit:

This is really really weird. I was using the original IORegistryExplorer version from the apple developer download site. Using the one you uploaded i am having no problems...?!?

The one i attached now should work.

Another edit:

Okay, what the {censored}...

Every time i try to upload something to insanelymac i get "Error This upload failed"...

You forgot to click upload :D

You should have archived it, you can't upload straight .ioreg format. Aaaaaand it's still corrupted. I actually think it's the same link as before.

Still corrupted, either it gets corrupted when uploading or it's corrupted from the moment you create it. Please .zip it/archive it and upload it as an archive.

It worked, i finished analyzing it... your problem is a bit more complex, a simple EDID string injection won't fix it. The drivers are not fully loaded/initialized for it. For the display/gpu to work properly it needs to be refreshed at the proper intervals and it's not.. at least not properly. You could try the kext files from Moutain Lion.. or install ML (GM version got released yesterday its identical to the retail version that will get released this month)

Could you maybe send me the kext?

Edid:

I analyzed the edid using edid-decode and got the following result:

Looks like the edid was faulty? Maybe a correct one would help?

EDIT:

NO, it was not faulty (atleast the errors it gave do not mean it is. It is EDID 1.4 which has other requirements then EDID 1.3, this is why it gave this error.

We can try with my edid. Although it's 1920x1080p it should still make it to the desktop but very distorted, either way this should show us if the screen will continue freezing.
