Hi guys, as you can see on the picture, my mobility radeon is fully supported in 10.6.6(QE/CI).
1. Install 10.6.6 - do not reboot
2. Install chameleon bootlooder
3. Replace the boot file
4. Create the Extra folder
5. Use ati rom into the Extra folder
6. Use com.apple.Boot.plist into the Extra folder
Restart the computer and your graphics acceleration should be working.
Ati framebuffer in boot file was changed to Nomascus - fb for mobility cards.
OSX86 ati mobility radeon HD5870 working perfectlly with QE/CI

Hi Olda,
This is very good news, I also have a laptop with the 5870 mobility in it... been dying to get it to work.
What resolution do you get? Does your laptop screen display correctly?
Cheers

Congrats on getting your 5870 working. Hopefully this is just the beginning of ati mobility's being used properly in OSX.
Pavol I think the ati rom he is on about is a dump of his video card, which you can get using Dong's code from his now defunct framebuffer project on google project.
Also when he talks about replacing the boot file I believe this is to do with the experimenting that is going on with respect to changing the framebuffer for ATI cards. Have a look in the graphics section of the hardware pages for more info.

Hi Olda,
can you please post your boot file please.
I have Asus G73jh with Ati Mobility Radeon HD5870 (1600x900).
I tried about 5 boot files with no luck.
All I got is spinning wheel or only 1024x768.
So I want to try your boot file with my Radeon.
Thank you

There is modified boot file - the framebuffer for mobility card was changed to right one(Nomascus).
Also, there is atirom for mobility hd5870, device ID 68a0.
Follow the instruction above and your card will be working.

Confirming that Mobility 5850 card works with internal display on my laptop (MSI GX640) with native resolution and QE/CI. Haven't tested VGA and HDMI ports though. Great job, Olda!
