[HowTo] Remote Control FrontRow with your USB Mouse (update)

Hi,

after several attempts of trying to control FrontRow via Salling Clicker or Romeo I gave it up and thought it

might be a better idea to simply take the thingy that is always in my Hand when I am in front of my puter.

Edit: works with all kind of mouse vendors, you can modify oit your way :gun:

Functions:

Every mousebutton will work as normal if frontrow is not active.

Up&Down via mousewheel (also volume control)

Left&Right via thumb buttons (also next fwd title)

Left mouseclick is Enter, and Right is Escape

Instructions:

1. install iKey

2. drop in my script (see attachment here)

Note:

Keep in mind that I made this for a Logitech MX700 but it should work with every USB mouse, no matter

what is in between (Bluetooth, Cable, IR or Radio). Also, if you don't feel comftable with the config, you can

take a look in the script with the iKey editor and it will approximately take you about 10 minutes to get your

mousebuttons set up the way you want. Also it seems to be a little laggy sometimes but I don't care :D

EDIT: updated attachment:

I hope you like it :(

Sorry for the naive of my question but.,. how do i drop it?

Ikey doesnt have a dock icon...

Cheers

Hi,

sorry for not making that clear:

You can click on the iKey symbol in the menubar and select iKey editor. then simply drop it in the open window.

Or - classic way - open iKey, located in programs, and then do it via File>Import.

Tell me if this works for you :D

Hi mates,

have you entered you usb mouse IDS in the profile?

No, this is not necessary :)

hey mate it only half works with my MX1000 the thumbbuttons work, but then the left and right click wont :S

Ok :)

It is really easy, for example customizing your leftclick:

- open the iKey editor

1. in the list, doubleclick on "Type Return" (this is what the left key should do

2. in the new window under "launchers" doubleclick on the entry

3. now simply press your desired mousebutton (iKey displays the autodetected mousebutton)

- click ok and quit the editor

1.2.3.:

You can do this procedure with every mousebutton you want. Note that it is sometimes better not to click on

ok in the last window, but to hit enter instead. otherwise it will detect your mouseclick again :)

i assumed thats what i was meant to do, but problems occur, when i go to usb reciver... nothing happens when i click or do anything with the mouse. somethings wrong there, and there is no "type return" in your script, but no biggie, thats all fixable. but the reciver thing is a shame :)

are you using logitech control centre for your mouse? maybe the drivers are clashing?

Sorry but when I try to drop the script, it seems it's empty, no commands in it. I have managed for the enter and esc key, but don´t know how to configure the mouse wheel, is there any trick? Anyway thanks for sharing this info!

Hmm, no I used to have the logitech Mousecenter installed but I deinstalled it for two reasons:

1. it does nothing better than OSX :D

2. You won't be able to run FrontRow with the FrontRowPass.kext, because it takes control over your USB HID Device.

Hmm, strange. What iKey version do you have? This one is new:

Version 2.2.1b2
  • Improvements:
  • - add support for more usb devices

(sorry 4 the stoopid question, but talking about the empty script: did you unpack the zipped file before dropping?)

Ok guys, now i know...

iKey is a little stupid, or I was :D

I had to mark every task and then click on export, so I uploaded the script again, and also updated the first link.

yerp.. same here with me.. well, it could be because of my setup i guess.

i have a mx700 connected via ps/2 socket and a mx 510 @ usb. Could that be the cause for me getting the "unable to find the USB receiver" error?

Exactly, you have to connect your mx700 directly via USB in order to make osx recognize it as an HID Device.

This is important because otherwise iKey won't be able to find a HID device, too. So no PS2, if possible :)
