Snow Leopard on VAIO P(VGN-P90HS) working!

Success!

I used my macbook to install Snow Leopard onto a USB Drive and installed Chameleon 2 RC3. After that, i replaced boot file and replaced all files from ryuu's .zip. Plugged it into the Vaio, and it worked flawlessly. The keyboard is even right. I guess mine is a little different. Anyways, I have absoloutely no clue how to recompile anything, so once someone can do that, Everything on the thing works that i use. It also is faster than any OS I have used on the device and i have a 1.33 GHz Atom.

Has anyone gotten the GMA500 working correctly yet? I have the right resolution, but its really laggy and stuff. Youtube works great, but regular videos in Quicktime are very laggy. VLC doesn't like videos at all, though.

If someone can get the GMA500 and the audio working and show me how to do it all, there may be a little bit of paypal donation involved.

Thanks everyone!

EDIT: About This Mac relaunches Finder every time i try to use it. Any idea why? Something i did or the computer?

- replace boot to Chameleon2 rc3

- replace VoodooPower to VoodooPoewerMini

- add OpenHaltRestart

- add VoodooHDA

- modify com.apple.Boot.plist

- etc

I'm using JP model so keymap is JIS, right.

want use some ohtner keymap, replace

Extra/Extensions1/VoodooPS2Controller.kext/Contents/PlugIns/VoodooPS2Keyboard.kext

to comfortable one and run Extra/extra.sh and cross your fingers and reboot.

If VoodooHDA doesn't load, delete /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext

BTW...

we should move to SL subforum?

Hi,

GMA500 is still working without QE/QI support.

(movie playback is high cpu load)

and still have some defects.

- Don't sleep( can someone try SleepEnabler.kext?)

- Preview.app can't show JPEG Image.

- About This Mac crushes

(- no WWAN power on method)

- Easy install guide

--

once you can boot from usb stick,

copy usbstick to internal hdd's partition using "Disk Utility" or ditto

is easy way to install internal HDD.

Is there something that I am not doing right for my sound to not work or could it be that i have a different audio chipset that what you have? I have a VGN-P530H. I don't know exactly what audio device i have. Can someone explain i little more in detail exactly what i have to do to edit the com.apple.Boot.plist?

Thanks for all the help guys. Couldn't have done it without you!

Thanks for all your help. Can you post the source code for VaioPEnabler and GMA500 - I'd like to look at porting the Linux Poulsbo driver over to the Vaio P -- I don't think we'll get QE/QI, but maybe we can have decent video playback...

Thanks,

Jeffrey

Hi, here you are

vaiopsrc0912.tar.gz

p.s.

Xserver-psb don't have machine code.

you should look at kernel-module drm.

and OSX side

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...st&id=34045

is useful.

So I just want to say thanks to all you guys who got all of the kexts and things to get my vaio running snow leopard! I:m so glad that i dont have to run windows. Not to mention that it runs quicker than any other OS that i have installed. I love the Insanely Mac scene.

The only things that would make this better would be full GPU support, sleep, and about this mac to work.

I was wondering if anyone knows how to change the network identity of the Vaio to something like a macbook air or something like that. I got the local icon to show the macbook air, but when i see it in bonjour shares on my macbook, its shows as "mac server" with a cinema display as the icon.

Also I have no clue where to get the correct keymap for a US keyboard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey there guys,

First of all big props to ryuu123!

I've been reading through this thread and it seems you guys have it figured out!

ryuu123, I was wondering - you should make a step by step guide on installing OS X (10.5/10.6) on the Sony Vaio P.

I have the Vaio P P688E/Q and would be very cool to have OS X running on it.

Are there any differences between the my version and the VGN-P90HS?

I'd be willing to make a Paypal donation for a working guide!

Thanks.

I'm going to have to agree. I can let a few paypal bucks go for a good guide. The biggest thing I've been trying to do lately is making a separate EFI partition so that I have the virgin install on the separate partition. If you could make a seperate guide or an addition to the normal guide to be able to have the EFI boot partition take care of all of the hacks. The biggest thing i can't get it to do is have the audio patched externally (not directly into the system).

Are you guys getting anywhere with the GMA 500? Is it really awful to use without QE/QI?

Thanks

It's much more faster than running windows family (And that includes 7 after installing utils), that has GMA500 driver.

Since I've got working Wifi with Snow, I no longer needed for any second operating systems.

In terms of performance, I've been actually using the P for some light coding. Yes it's slow, but fast enough for me. (I might even consider ssd upgrade once sleep and misc, issues are fixed).

Super Work, SL much joke makes on the Vaio.

(- no WWAN power on method)

Is there, to activate a possibility the WWAN modem in the start?

The new 10.6 options drivers work with the European model (P11z) good, but only if

windows was transferred by the internal hard disk in the stand by and

is booted then over USB SL.

In a cold start or boot only SL from internal HDD, the modem is not activated.

Please the bad English excuse...

hi,

there's currently no way to activate WWAN without windows.

we need the sonypi drivers ( http://www.linux.it/~malattia/wiki/index.php/Sony_drivers ) ported over to mac os.

someone made the first step: http://code.google.com/p/sonypi-macosx/

but the project is currently inactive..

btw. thanks ryu - snow leopard works great :)

and yes, we should move to the 10.6 sub forum ;)

hi, I did some research.

In the ioreg we see two devices. SNC(SNY5001) and SPIC(SNY6001).

wwan power control is SPIC part.

linux drvier source->

http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/...bfe37a3;hb=HEAD

__sony_pic_set_wwanpower()

sonypi-macosx is only skelton and zero efeectable code.

source code I attached yet contains modified AMW0 source.

This can attach SNC and SPIC and then successfully read LCD brightness from SNC through ACPI.

but P's DSDT is so complex for OSX.

no resources(io/irq) is provide in ioreg.

now I mod DSDT to get resources appear in ioreg.

TTT, my P have no wwan.

so my motivation is very low :-p

HI! DID ANYONE NOTICE THAT AFTER SOME 15-20 MINUTES OF WORK CAPS LOCK SWITCHES ON BY HIMSELF AND THE ONLY POSSIBILITY TO SWITCH IT OFF IS TO REBOOT?

ANOTHER PROBLEM IS CRASHING OF SKYPE WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A VIDEO CALL.

IN PREVIEW NOT ONLY JPEG, BUT ALSO TIFF CANNOT BE VIEWED.

hi, I did some research.

I'll move to the 10.6 sub forum :)

IF YOU WILL POST THERE, MAKE A LINK IN THIS THREAD, PLEASE.

SORRY FOR CAPS

Hi all just to add some more info.

I was able, thanks to the efforts of ryuu123 and all the others here (really thanx you all: incredible great job…), to install Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on a Vaio VGN-P29VN with a SSD drive.

Used Chmaleon RC3 to boot from a Corsair USB 32GB pen drive.

I use the ryuu123 package fro SL with some minor changes.

The only weird thing: is really sloooooow accessing the USB flash pen drive. To be honest even on Vista side it is no a real racer… specially using the SSD. But not like this. Need more than an hour to update from 10.6 to 10.6.1!!

I do not know if this depends from the pen itself or something is wrong. Since I don't want to scratch my Vista installation and use the internal SSD I'm using the USB pen drive as a disk.

It is really really slow. Seems it using an USB 1.1 instead of 2.0!!!

Anyway I'll plan to partition the SSD and try to use that one. And I will try another flash pen drive, just in case...

There is no a sinlge trace why the pen is slow in the logs (I do have tail -f any single file under /var/log with no a single clue, checked the console output and boot messages).

The only errors I got at boot are these and seems to involve the voodoo audio stuff:

Sound assertion "0 != setupHostInterrupt ()" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-174.1.1/AppleHDAController/AppleHDAController.cpp" at line 270 goto Exit
error: failed to open PCI device
Loading VoodooHDA 0.2.1 (based on hdac version 20090401_0132)
error: couldn't open PCI device
Sound assertion "!fProvider->open ( this )" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-174.1.1/AppleHDAController/AppleHDAController.cpp" at line 189 goto Exit
..….

And this one:

ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out

Atheros wireless is OK.

TODO:

need to check if the Yukon eth works

need to know if connecting it to an external display it is working

check keyboard since many keys do not works or are misplaced

check GPS

voodoo power after installing 10.6.1 is not correctly addressing in menu bar changes to the battery status

Thank you again to all you guys for the excellent hard work.

Hi,

That's soooo cool. SL works on the Vaio P (128GB SSD, 1,6GHZ).

One thing. I can't get WLAN to work. Airport icon says "Airport: Not configured" ...

Than tried switching it on/off via Hardware button. Nothing works...

EDIT: OK, Airport works, but can't find my network (Macbook: perfect reception, good reception with P and Windows).

I wanted to run Mac OS from internal SSD. Now, making an image doesn't work because then Disk Utility says it's not scanned. When I try to activate the image or just open it (I thinkt then it's scanned) there are always errors at the end. I can't make or get a right image from the usb stick Mac OS.

I tried copying everything manually to the hdd. But when booting from internall SSD it says "missing mach_kernel" ...

What do I have to do EXACTLY to get Mac OS running on internal HDD?

Thx.

The following worked for me:

1. Boot up off flash drive.

2. Format/partition the Sonys internal drive using Disk Utility

3. Copy the contents of the flash drive to the internal drive using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner (google for em)

4. Download and re-run Chameleon, but this time point it at the internal drive (this installs the boot loader)

Reboot!

Thx very much, I think it was the SD card. Did the installation again with an external hdd and SuperDuper and it worked.

Is it possible to just activate WLAN and no BT?

If I turn the Wireless Button on, both BT and WLAN are activated. But I never use BT!
