  1. Snow Leopard on VAIO P(VGN-P90HS) working!

Hi all just to add some more info. I was able, thanks to the efforts of ryuu123 and all the others here (really thanx you all: incredible great job…), to install Snow Leopard 10.6.1 on a Vaio VGN-P29VN with a SSD drive. Used Chmaleon RC3 to boot from a Corsair USB 32GB pen drive. I use the ryuu123 package fro SL with some minor changes. The only weird thing: is really sloooooow accessing the USB flash pen drive. To be honest even on Vista side it is no a real racer… specially using the SSD. But not like this. Need more than an hour to update from 10.6 to 10.6.1!! I do not know if this depends from the pen itself or something is wrong. Since I don't want to scratch my Vista installation and use the internal SSD I'm using the USB pen drive as a disk. It is really really slow. Seems it using an USB 1.1 instead of 2.0!!! Anyway I'll plan to partition the SSD and try to use that one. And I will try another flash pen drive, just in case... There is no a sinlge trace why the pen is slow in the logs (I do have tail -f any single file under /var/log with no a single clue, checked the console output and boot messages). The only errors I got at boot are these and seems to involve the voodoo audio stuff: Sound assertion "0 != setupHostInterrupt ()" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-174.1.1/AppleHDAController/AppleHDAController.cpp" at line 270 goto Exit error: failed to open PCI device Loading VoodooHDA 0.2.1 (based on hdac version 20090401_0132) error: couldn't open PCI device Sound assertion "!fProvider->open ( this )" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-174.1.1/AppleHDAController/AppleHDAController.cpp" at line 189 goto Exit ..…. And this one: ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin::start - waitForService(resourceMatching(AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement) timed out Atheros wireless is OK. TODO: need to check if the Yukon eth works need to know if connecting it to an external display it is working check keyboard since many keys do not works or are misplaced check GPS voodoo power after installing 10.6.1 is not correctly addressing in menu bar changes to the battery status Thank you again to all you guys for the excellent hard work.
  2. Hi all; just to share some info. I was able to have, finally, a working stable installation of SL (i.e. no crashes, KP or other amenities of the like, and this from some days…). I slightly went back the Leopard installation way for this MoBo (take a look at MJ guide) and I have set up an EFI partition installation. I do have a P6T Deluxe V2 6GB 1600 Cosrair RAM, i7 950 (by the way I'm using busratio=23, but I've just guessed sitting between 940 and 970... it is fine?) nVidia GTX 285 2GB and a coupple of old, real real old 80GB sata HDs. Default BIOS setting but HT enabled. BIOS version 0504 I've chosen this "old" method since the one from wziard here made me nut from the number of KP and I was really sick of rebooting the darn MoBo. wziard thanx so much for putting all the info togheter and the kexts: whitout your help in finding the good stuff probably I could not have make it... Just installed from a USB stick booting from 10.5.8 on a GUID formatted WD 80GB (1,5 not 3 MB) slow, real slow HD. While the installer was doing its job I've lunched Chameleon from wziard pack an choose to install the EFI option (need to click on customize). I then mounted the newly EFI partition: mkdir /Volumes/EFI mount_hsf /dev/diskXs1 /Volumes/EFI From terminal and being su/root (use sudo or su) I do have copied the wziard Kexts in the Extra/Extensions. I do have recompiled the DSDL.aml and copied in /Volume/EFI since I do have another CPU following information here. Copy it togheter with the boot from wziard in Extra. Same for smbios.plist again in Extra. I do also copied in it the vanilla kernel in /Volume/EFI. Rebuild the Extra/Extension chache installed not there but directly in SLE otherwise… no audio… VooDoo Audio. I have found from DiskUtility the HD UUID. Worked out the EFI string for my video card using any of the method you like (Acquamac, EFI Studio, etc.). With all the info I do have copied in /Extra a modified version of com.apple.Boot.plist that looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple Computer//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string></string> <string>bt(0,0)/mach_kernel busratio=23 boot-uuid=YOUR HD UUID</string> <key>device-properties</key> <string>VERY LONG HEX VIDEO EFI STRING</string> <key>Graphics Mode</key> <string>YOUR SCREEN RES AND DEPTH</string> </dict> </plist> I edited the IONetworkingfamily as wizard. And finally rebooted the thing. I got at the chosen resolution the green chameleon screen and start first time with -v -f options… It boots in 30 seconds to the initial SL splash screen at my video resolution: not an error (besides NVinject with I do have late removed). During boot no error (I checked in dmesg too…) Performance: not bad at all even HD; seems to me the second HDs it is a bit slow but I'm able to copy a 14GB dmg file from the secondary HD to the SL one in 4 minutes that it is not so bad using my 2 old SATA-1 HDs. TODO One annoying thing is that the HDs icons (even USB stick) are folder icons and not disk one and by now cannot understand why. Probably I messed up some KEXTs. Try to boot and use the MoBo from a disk different from position 0 (ie the first). I do not have ANY KP in at least 3 days of normal usage. It use 64b kernel (but switch to 32 as soon need to use VMWare... or other not working apps). Video at full speed (QE & CI). Thanks to all from this thread and the others about this MoBo.
  3. Hi all. In case anybody need it. I was able to fresh install iDeneb v. 1.6 10.5.8 on a Strike II NSE (790i), 3GHz Quad + 4GB RAM, default Bios settings, ADI1988B Audio. Here how I did it. I did boot from IDE DVD with cpus=1 maxmem=2048 -v. Install with the default and choosing vanilla kernel (no LAN,but nForce ATA, no testing nForceATA) and Chamaleon v2. Before quitting and rebooting I've launched Terminal and manually installed the latest AnForceLAN driver. I've added an A at the begininh of the name to load it before other kexts and get rid of the annoying message at boot about time synch. After booting first time with again cpus=1 (but in my case maxmem=2048 non more needed) I do have installed a modified IOATAFamily.kext to get rid of IOKitWait... message at boot and LONG boot time (now it boots in 7/8 seconds). Also do have installed: Taruga_AD1988b_rev4 to fix Audio seatbelt_fix.pkg found in iDeneb DVD to fix KP on mounting .dmg images and the Voodoo dmg installation pakage foun at their site to avoid cpus=1 boot. Installed also the new Chameleon-2.0-RC2-r640 Installed graphics for my GPU (nVidia GTX285) using original nVidia driver and "Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards" from netkas and get both QE and CI. I do now have all 4 cores, 4GB both LAN ports. Upgraded to all the latest. So far no crashes using almost any programs. The next step: SnowLeo... Hope it hepls.
  4. OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

Hi all for anyone interested I've modded for Asus P5Q3 Deluxe BIOS version 13.06. I've tried to flash using both Asus Update Utility (Vista x64 and x86, not XP, but should be the same...) and EZ Flash 2. You can download it here Thanks for all the hints to the great Kabyl, david and all the other ones who helped out to understand the BIOS triks... Hope it helps.
  5. Hi all for anyone interested, I've modded for Asus P5Q3 Deluxe BIOS version 13.06. I've tried to flash using both Asus Update Utility (Vista x64 and x86, not XP, but should be the same...) and EZ Flash 2. You can download it here If you need to install Leo (i've personally used iDeneb 10.5.4) you can take a look at this thread. Thanks for all the hints to the great Kabyl, david and all the other ones who helped out to understand the BIOS triks...
  6. As in my first post I've tryied without any luck Jas Client/Server 10.5.4 and iDeneb 10.5.4 v1.1 without any luck with my Asus Striker II NSE. I then went to iAktos first v.2i and then to v.4i to pass alla upgrading business. Need "nforce -v" kernel flag to install and anyway it install 9.2.0 kernel but it works fine To answer to you previous question: my chipset is an NVIDIA nForce 790i SLI Hope it helps
  7. nForce LAN driver

Eno thanks for the great job. Just a note of my installation hoping it helps to further develop the driver. I'm on an Asus Striker II NSE (790i) with 2 0373 LAN ports and installed 0.61.2alpha. At boot (I'm using 10.5.5. with either 9.4b1 or 9.5a8 voodoo kernel) both port are coorectly addressed and I can see both MAC adress (ie the driver is reiterated for both ports) but then only is shown in network System Preferences and only one is working. Hope it helps in your development.
  8. An update on Striker II NSE. I'm using the new config for about 6 hours now. 1) Installed 9.5a8 kernel from voodoo. Every thing works as with 9.4b1. No fix for shutdown: still KP after halting the box. I'm going to drop a message to them. 2) I've installed, taking away the RTL8169, Eno 0.61.2alpha forcedeth.kext. Both port are recognized and correctly addressed (ie I've got the MAC address of both) but seems only one works. I did'nt spend too much time - I will - to further investigate but it is strange. I'm going to PM him. I made some bandwith and usage test and seems it works fine: need time to be pretty sure it is really working: at least it does'nt break the box!!! I had 2 frezes (ie it just hangs, no mouse, no answer from LAN) dealing with FW or USB after using HD attached to them. No trace in the log anyway so it is difficult to understand what is happening. Keep updating.
  9. Oops I've realized I've delete some lines. My BIOS setting then: It is almost the default one but: fan speed (QFan, otherwise I'm getting nut from the full speed noise of the processor fan...), splash screen disabled and CPU Multiplier at 10 (instead of the default 8). Nothing else. By the way while is was googling for 0373 Linux driver for on-board network ports I've found ENO has a working kext with success from some other guys with the LANs: this is the link. I'll keep posting my experience here.
  10. Hi all, here my experience. I'm using an Asus Striker II NSE (790i) configured in this way: a Quad Extreme 65nm Q6850 3.0GHZ processor overclocked to 3,33GHz 4 GB RAM 1333 OCZ 1600 DD3 (2x2GB) the ADI 1988B audio card which comes with the board an Hamlet 1Gb NIC RTL8169 (on board no way...) an ATI HD3850 512MB 4 Sata HDs: 2 80GB Segate, 2 250 Maxtor. One for Vista x32 one for Ubuntu 8.04 and 2 for the Mac. 1 IDE Pioneer DVD I've used iAtkos 4i distrib (10.5.4) with "nforce -v" kernel flags to install. Choose stock AHCI, nforce kernel (9.2.0, ie 10.5.2 modded kernel) and nForce Sata driver. All other 10.5.4 distrib do not boot at least in my case (iDeneb & Jas). Nothing else: no video, no network - on-board ports for sure are not working at all, unfortunately. I had to go in single mode immediately to delete ATI* (all) driver which are installed anyway. I did also delete alla other video drives (nVidia Geforce* and NVDA*) beside AppleIntelGMA*). After booting I've upgraded everything but 10.5.5. I've installed Taruga 1988B rev.3 for audio (after manually cleaning all HDA, Azalia stuff...), and I've installed for the video card Natit and the specific ATIHD3850 kext. Then I've download from here voodoo xnu 9.4b1 kernel and installed. Their 9.5 alpha 7 (which goes with 10.5.5) is out from today here, but I did'nt take a look yet. 9.4b1 kernel has nForce support but have a problem at least for me (see later here). I've done the upgrade to 10.5.5 using the delta with the suggested shell script used as in 10.5.2/10.5.3 (see netkas suggestion about it). Before rebooting I've manually installed voodoo 9.4b1 kernel: being sure to set correct ownership (root:wheel) and permission (604) to the mach_kernel file. I've also hidden (after installing Apple developer tools) using SetFile -a V mach_kernel. Fixed, just in case permission to /System/Library Extensions using DiskUtility and rebooted. Works fine: I was really surprised. The iAtkos installation itself was not stable with many frezes (I don't know if this is due to 9.2 kernel) but passing to 10.5.5 and that kernel make the system real stable not a single freeze using it a lot and real in deep! Again I was really surprise because the darn thing even with Vista was causing me crashes an problems!!! USB, FW, video, Audio all work fine and since now with no problem. I've overclocked via BIOS but no more than 3,33 otherwise it want boot. It is the default setting but: fan speed (QFan otherwise I'm getting nut from the full speed noise of the processor fan...), splash screen disabled and TODO: the voodoo 9.4b1 kerne panic on shutdown (and naturally I need to shut off the system manually) while it restar correctly. I'll give a try to the alpha (really scared anyway...) but I don't know what to do about it at least by now. Also the system is slow on boot due to: "IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out waiting to write kernel symbols" which slow down boot (around 20 seconds). I've read all the possible and tryied any possible suggested solution in different forums with no luck by now. Another thing I would like to take a look at is the LAN ports: I'm writing a driver for an Intel NIC card for another MoBo porting fom Linux, and if I can find a Linux driver for these 2 MCP55 Ethernet (10de:0373) ports... It is a terrible quest (I know from the Intel port which is really complicated...) but at least a try...
  11. Striker II Extreme (790I Ultra) Possible ?

Yeah right, togheter with asus superb customer support: just ignoring people spending money on their stuff!!! Hope never to deal with them again... just being ignored. I'm using a $10 RTL 8169 (with Apple own driver...). About having a stable system: after 24 hours of real usage with voodoo 9.4b1 kernel on 10.5.5 not a single freeze!! wow!! and with full 4GB RAM I' was able to make the audio working, manually taking away all Apple (modded or not) Audio kexts and reinstalling rev.3. A couple of other things I'm working hard to solve but with no luck right now: "IOKitWaitQuiet() timed out waiting to write kernel symbols" slow down boot (around 20 seconds). and with this kernel Shutdown KP (after the halt message appear...) the darn thing while restart does not.... But to be honest at the moment I'm really surprised: when some days ago I had the chance to put my hand on this one I was sure to have terrible, real terrible time, to make it work with Mac OS X... I'm going to post any development.
  12. Striker II Extreme (790I Ultra) Possible ?

Hi, thanx for the info. Already in touch with him, and really appreciate the great job... But after a couple of days of trying (not because was not working but since I do not know how many freezes and KP I had... and than I need to start back from 10.5.2...) a I've used a different approach. Install iAtoks 4i with nforce kernel (no Ideneb, no Jas at least for what I've tested, hang on booting the DVD), and do the upgrade to 10.5.5 myself using the voodoo 9.4b1 kernel (here). During this weekend seems it will available 9.5 kernel too (http://groups.google.com/group/xnu-dev/web/voodoo-9-5-0-kernel). The 10.5.4 iAtkos with this board is really not stable (freezes a lot, too much, can be it is "old" 9.2 nforce kernel used in this distrib?) but upgrading to 10.5.5 with the 9.4b1 seems soled: at the moment, almost an entire day, crossing my finger, didn't freeze yet. I've to take a look at Mysticus 10.5.5 updater when it will be stable: I've installed a 10.5.4 installer on pen drive which speed really up installation and I do have spare disks (no partition mess, please), so I can gove it a try. The board is not really stable anyway (especially if you boot back Mac OS X after a windoze gaming usage with Asus overclocking enabled) many freezes even using Vista but most than all 3 times need to do a DVD repair of the OS!! No way to have audio In, even with Taruga rev.4, after installing rev.3, only out. Do you know if there is anyway to have the 2 on-board LAN ports to be used?
  13. Striker II Extreme (790I Ultra) Possible ?

Don't know if you are still interested. I was able to boot, install and use an Asus Striker II NSE My config: the Asus Striker II NSE a Quad Extreme 65nm Q6850 3.0GHZ processor 4 GB RAM 1333 the ADI audio card which comes with the board an Hamlet 1Gb NIC (on board no way...) an ATI HD3850 512MB I've used iAtkos 2.0i with nForce kernel (nforce -v at DVD boot after F8) 10.5.2 distrib. Works almost everything but the 2 Ethernet ports. Need to boot from a IDE DVD driver (SATA DVD no way) TODO: Find a way to get Audio in working with ADI 1988B card, find a way to upgrade to 10.5.4 (or better to 10.5.5). Need to test deeply the set up.
  14. At least you receive an automated mail: not for me.. just ignore mails at all... The SATA DVD (Asus again...) is working perfectly with at least their desktop motherboards (I've trayed with all P5x-.. mobos (C,K, E, EPro, EPro WiFI) Blitz and some older one. All install perfectly with AMI BIOS and AHCI on (not talking of Windoze or Linux but Tiger or Leo). Is just this BIOS/MoBo combination which really suck... What seems promising, and I would like to know if someone has tryied in deep yet, is the new skulltrail Z7S WS, someone already mentioned here. Is more a desktop than a server MoBo with modding in BIOS and all what is needed for workstation/desktop use. On DSEB-DG I've connected all 4 Eths and seems there is a problem with all the 4 ports connected: en3 if en4 is connected (and both configured) does not work (10.5.2 vanilla IONetworkingFamily and AppleIntel8254x kext). This is strange since these are 2 different chipsets (one is 82563EB while the other is an 82573) each with 2 ports. I have to take a look deeply into log and registers to understand why only port 3 it is not working while on same chipset is working.
  15. redmodel, I do have Snoop Filter enabled. I do not use Prime95. It is enough the 2 Xeon 5450s at least for me... Do you have AHCI enbled? I do. Even if with this config I'm unable to use Vista or Linux (ie I've to reverse to IDE) already installed neither a SATA DVD. If you want I can send you BIOS conf at least for things you need to compare. Do you have downloaded mod BIOS from kabyl? great job even looking at his thread... Yes I can belive audio is real good for you: I've my (junk) one spare from old PCs and I know I could use it. Only stereo anyway no 5:1. Anyway I have this ASUS board spare fro server usage, and I gave it a try but poor support (real poor I've written half a dozen mailsto thei support, with just no answer... and I'm not talking of hackintosh suff but simply boot Windoze or Linux from an Asus (!) SATA DVD...). No way if you use AHCI (which in many other Asusu boards/AMI BIOS works like a charm...). But I really prefer for daily use the Supermicro one (which is also cheaper compare to this one...). No sound, only 2 USB ports, no 1394, problems in booting and since the kabyl work no way to use it with Mac OS... Anyway we have now a working mobo...
