Hello all,
Just wanted to keep you guys informed on the IRC situation; at about 2:00 PM PST, irc.macspeak.net started experiencing sporadic connectivity problems followed by a loss of connectivity. As of 3:27 PST, connectivity and services (chanserv, nickserv, etc) have not been restored.
This issue is caused by a faulty router/cut link which we are working to restore. Thanks for your patience during this time.
Thanks!
cmoski

Just out of curiosity, does http://*/626041 have anything to do with why the server's down? IRC log of a conversation i saw take place yesterday. Just curious.

Yes and no. There was a technical problem, which was surely pissing Welsh off. We're working out the issues with the server currently. Germany has been having internet problems since the fiber link went down last week, so that's not helping us.

You'd think a big country like Germany would have more then 1 backbone for the internet - Some redundancy atleast - The transatlantic backbone's redundantly redundant for example.
So, yes or no, did that conversation have any impact? just looking for a straight answer - it was starting to become a cozy place, between conversing with LeiFang and Hagar(Which is enjoyable), to watching people not know how to use google(which is funny)

They do, the backups the datacenter is using are just iffy at times. That's backups for you.
The conversation didn't have any impact, we resolved that issue soon afterword but a new problem came up that brought us all the way down. Ironic considering another server was already down for upgrades, so that took the whole net with it. Alas, back to work!

IRC Report as of 11:45 PM PST.
Currently, irc.makspeak.net is still down. All services are unavailable, including IRC, HTTP, etc. There have been further technical problems, and to this effect we are working to restore service to this location soon.
Once again, thank you all for your patience. We'll be back again before you know it!
Thanks!

Wow.. I got noticed
I might have saved myself the bother and aggravation (incidentally it fell to me to placate the character quoted above on several occasions).. as solutions are springing up of which I had not the slightest inkling, and we fully expect to be back with something newer and better very shortly.....

Hello to all,
We are working on an improved IRC network, and you should expect to see it in a couple of days. We don't have an exact time on the move quite yet, but stay tuned to this spot.
Thanks!
