Seems like us AMD people are spread out all over the place trying to find some answers so let's combine ideas in here...

Ok here's my set up....

Abit AN-M2

AMDX2 6000+

6GB RAM (working but incorrectly displayed)

Chipset: nVidia GeForce 7025/nForce 630a.

MSI 8600 GT working

On-board audio: Realtek ALC888 codec (working)

Netgear GA311 LAN:Gigabit Ethernet (Working)

1) My Processor is recognized as AMD/unknown and my FSB is completely off in Profiler.

I've booted using various kernels and always shows incorrect info. (modbin shows one processor)

2) I've noticed that some of you got your set up to recognize your Graphics card model in your profiler...

Mine does not ....but does recognize that it is an "nvidia" card and all options are supported.

3) Firewire is recognized but Hard drive attached does not mount and shows up as "unknown" in profiler

Its a manually installed PCI firewire card with a VIA chipset. Also wastes 2-3 minutes on boot telling me that it does not know the security mode it is on.

4) My ram is recognized but it displays as 0Mhz.....???

5) and my fav problem....is the random freezes or crashes....VLC is buggy...can't install CS3 to save my life...

I'm on a IDE hard drive right now obviously because leopard will not recognize my 2 Sata Drives so I know that is a speed sacrifice.

Some one plz explain to me like a 7 year old: How do you make Leopard recognize SATA drives... I hear AppleVIAATA.kext has to do with it but i might be wrong...

Other than that I love my new Hackintosh...

hopefully us AMD people can get some answers in here.....

1. I wouldn't worry about this, my Intel processor is displayed wrongly too.

2. Have you installed any graphics card kexts? What is your grahics card?

3. Not sure on your firewire problem, sounds like an unsupported card to me.

4. Don't worry about this either, it's all runnign sweet but just fails to display your ram mhz.

5. You've got more than 2GB of ram, use the maxmem=2048 boot comnmand to only use 2GB of ram and not freeze your hack.

Google for zephyroth AMD and look for that forum. There's heaps of answers there.

Regards to getting your SATA drives working, follow the link in my sig next to my raptor,.

I used the NVINJECT off of the dvd....

Forgot to mention that Quartz Extreme does not work...

My card is a MSI 8600 GT

-didn't know about the maxmem command THANX... So using more than 2GB of ram caused my random crashes...??????

- ah yes....I've read medevils post a couple times and I have the kext.. but do you install the new kext, fix permissions and reboot or do you have to manually enter your device ID into it as well.......? kinda unsure about that..

Thanx......

Does that NvInject work for the 8 series cards? Has been a while since I reinstalled so dunno about that. I'd try using NVinect installerv41 or something.

The device ID shoudl already be in medivels kext, just load it up and set permissions etc.

Mofre than 2gb of ram causes random crashes yes, especially when accessing hard drives or doing long intenisve tasks.

If you have, tell me how I'm trying figure it out on my own but I'm almost ready to either quit of get an Intel CPU / board

I am pretty sure that the OS has a list of processors and uses the CPU's ID to match it up. Everyone I know including myself just edits the information so that it displays correctly.

Editing About This Mac

This infomation is stored in "AboutThisMac.strings" in "/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/"

Make a backup copy of this file and open it up. Find:

"ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "%@";

and change it to what you want it to show for example:

"ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "AMD Athlon X2 5000+ 2.6Ghz";

or for a laugh:

"ABOUT_BOX_SINGLE_PROCESSOR_FIELD_FORMAT" = "Cyrix 6x86 PR 133+ 110MHZ";

Editing Apple Logo on About This Mac

The logo is located in "/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/Resources" as "MacOSX.tif". Back this file up and replace it with your own using the same name. Use Disk Utility or Terminal to fix permissions.

2) I've noticed that some of you got your set up to recognize your Graphics card model in your profiler...

Mine does not ....but does recognize that it is an "nvidia" card and all options are supported.

Are you using NVinject or NVkush for graphics and is that card 256 or 512?

4) My ram is recognized but it displays as 0Mhz.....???

That is strange. Id use the maxmem flag and see if anything changes or even pull some memory out and test.

5) and my fav problem....is the random freezes or crashes....VLC is buggy...can't install CS3 to save my life...

There is an issue with freezing when the more than 3.5GB is used. Some people have problems around 3.2GB. In the past I used the maxmem flag on boot to limit memory down to 3584MB (3.5GB). I have since found a modified 64bit driver that corrected this problem.

Maxmem temporary fix to limit memory usage (Read "Slashack's Modified kexts" to utilize all 6GB)

Try the maxmem flag on boot and if it works add it to com.apple.Boot.plist located in: /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

The syntax goes something like this:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>maxmem=****</string>

Replacing **** with the amount of memory to use. Many people have reported 3456 (3.38gb) works well. I have pushed mine to 3584 (3.5gb) and have not been able to make it freeze.

This is also where you put other flags such as "-v -s -l". If you are using any of these the syntax is:

<key>Kernel Flags</key>

<string>maxmem=3456 -v -s</string>

Each time I increased the speed I would open up Activity Monitor and click the System Memory tab. I would then open Photoshop and and do something that would tax the system. On my computer when I went over the threshold it would freeze and I could read how much memory had been used. (Other people have mentioned that their computer would reset instead of freeze.) I ran that computer 24/7 and used Photoshop heavily and never had a memory related problem at 3.5GB.

Slashack's Modified kexts:

I have a different chipset but this should be a start to get all 6GB working. Slashack's Post http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=127611

After applying the fix I opened Activity Monitor to the memory tab then scaled an image in photoshop along with clicking all 33 applications in my dock. I managed to get it to use all but just under 100mb without a problem. Ill be stress testing in Premiere Pro with some rather lengthy video encoding projects. Ill keep my fingers crossed.

Other issues:

In addition to the memory issue I have found most of my problems have disappeared after updating to 10.5.5, replacing my kernel with Voodoo 9.5 and replacing my system.kext with System.kext 9.5 Vanilla. Remember you can not use Apple Software Update as those updates will override your modified kexts. Using tools such as Zephyroth's ASU (Apple Software Update) which downloads the updates and patches them for you is a good method.

Also some programs need to be patched in order to run on AMD. I use Zephyroth's AMD Patcher and have had pretty good luck. I watch this Thread: http://www.infinitemac.com/f36/zephyroths-...8-aug-18-t1385/ for information on updated tools.

I had graphics card issues with kalyway 10.5.2. I would install with NVinject selected but it would never work all the way. Id either get default graphics or Id get the res options but no QE. I fixed these issues by downloading and installing the latest NVinject. Recently I have given NVkush a try and its worked equally as well.

Backing up:

I boot my install disk and use Disk Utility to create a DMG of my install partition/drive to a second partition/drive. Then if I have an issue I can just restore that image or even mount it to pull files.

So to review I would take the following path.

1. After your Kalyway 10.5.2 install make a backup copy of your install.

3. Use the maxmem flag to limit memory (Id try those slashack fixes after you update.)

4. Update your kernel & System.kext (Ive been using the Voodoo 9.5 kernel & Vanilla 9.5 System.kext with good results but take your pick. There is a Voodoo kernel that is approching its final stages which is supposed to to the AMD patching on the fly but I have not tried it yet.)

5. Use Zeph's ASU to get and patch the 10.5.5 combo update.

4. Try slashack's fix for memory or keep using maxmem.

Ive got pretty much any software to run on my rig after doing this.

Oh and I noticed your not using your onboard lan. I bought the same nic card because I couldnt get mine supported. I have now found a nForceLan kext that worked for my chipset

MOBO: Asus M2N SLI Deluxe

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 5000 X2

RAM: 4GB Corsair XMS2 DDR-800 1gb x4

GRAPHICS: PNY 7600GT 256mb (VCG7600GXPB)

DRIVES: 1x WD 74gb Raptor SATA 1.5, 3x WD Caviar 80gb SATA 3, NEC DVD Burner (ND3550A), ASUS DVD ROM (E-616A2)

I used the NVINJECT off of the dvd....

Forgot to mention that Quartz Extreme does not work...

My card is a MSI 8600 GT

I have added this to my reply to your post earlier but I figured Id mention it here. I had a strange problem that even though I selected NVinject on install It wouldnt completely support the card. In one case I downloaded the latest NVinject and installed it. For my latest install I gave NVkush a try and have been please. (granted I dont have the same card). You mentioned installing CS3. As I mentioned in my other post, updating to 10.5.5. and changing kernels fixed most of my problems with software. Even if you did get your CS3 apps installed, not having your card/QE enabled may cause issues. A few apps I had would load the spash screen and then when it started to load the interface it would crash.

Is EQ / CI enabled for your video card? if its not thats why VLC is buggy, on my setup you can only hear audio no video

If you have, tell me how I'm trying figure it out on my own but I'm almost ready to either quit of get an Intel CPU / board

AMD problems:

Don't give up. I was in the same boat and then in the last month ive been able to get my AMD mobo almost 100% supported. I found that after I updated to 10.5.5. and installed a new kernel I had a great deal less problems. My path was:

1. Kalyway 10.5.2

2. NVkush (Graphics)

3. Voodoo 9.5 kernel & Vanilla 9.5 System.kext

4. 10.5.5 combo update (Downloaded & patched using Zephiroth's ASU 0.5)

5. nForceLAN.kext (on-board lan fix)

6. IOATAFamily.kext.zip (Modified 64bit Kext, fixed memory usage over 3.5GB)

I noticed that you have 6GB of memory. Have you pushed that to the limits? Does it freeze or restart randomly? I had this problem and in the beginning I used the boot flag "maxmem=3584" to limit my mem to 3.5GB but the fix #6 has eliminated the problem to far.

Nvidia nForce On-Board Ethernet:

There are a few nForce drivers out there. I have the nForce 570 chipset and this kext worked for me. You may need to edit Device IDs in order to get yours working. http://rapidshare.com/files/171102326/nForceLAN.kext.zip

Video Card:

Is your card 512MD or 256MB? I would try deleting any NVkush or NVinject kexts and reinstalling ether one or the other with the latest version avalable.
